Wandy Rodriguez threw 7 innings of 2 hit baseball. He struck out 6. Let me repeat that?7 inning 2 hits, 6 Ks. Excellent control of a fastball in the low 90s, he had a no hitter through 4.2. Apparently he had a hamstring issue, they came out at some point, the 5th?, he told them to go away. 7, 2, no runs, huge.
The back story was Ensberg (3-5, 2 runs 2 RBI) and Everett (2-4, 3 RBI). Mo started the 2nd with a homerun, Maximus the 3rd. Taveras (3-4 2 runs scored) also tripled in the 3rd with 2 outs, but Berkman stranded him.
In the 4th, they loaded the bases with one out. And instead of walking, or popping up, Everett doubled in two. Twice what they did yesterday in two bases loaded situations. That made the score 4-0, then Rodriguez skipped a single through to make it 5-0. All the while they were showing Bud Selig in the booth, yammering about something.
In the 5th, the Astros scored 2 more, Munson contributing an RBI single.
For all you that have your panties in a wad over Lane, two run homer (2-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI) . Ensberg doubled home Taveras from first, always a treat to watch run. 15 hits on the night in total. Biggio was the only starter who forgot to get one.
The only small glitch was in the 3rd, Wilson and Taveras misplayed a high fly to left center. Willy is running over, calling ?Mine!, Mine!? Wilson kept running and crossed just in back of him. This apparently spooked Taveras enough so that the ball landed in his glove, and as he jerked the glove back, presumably because he thought he was about to hit Wilson, it popped out. Three base error. No matter, cause Wandy struck out the next 2 and ended the inning on a lazy fly out. Did I mention Wandy was huge tonight?
Tomorrow, the rubber game, Fernando Nieve, vs El Duque, at 3:40.
