I understand why they didn't offer him arbitration but, still, I'm going to miss him.  An unselfish player who was always ready when called upon.

I have my own ideas, but has there been any official statement, or any behind the scenes word from the team as to why.

Vizcaino is a tremendous player with a superb career. He significantly contributed to every team he was on, not only on the field but in the wardrobe too.

Whether it's a business decision or because Viz is going to retire, it's a shame.  I hope they do something to keep him in the organization if he does retire, coach, ST instructor, whatever...

My guess is he'll be an MLB manager -- for someone -- within 5-7 years of his retirement.  Assuming that is what he wants to do.  Vizcaino is articulate and level-headed, and from what I have read is highly thought of around baseball.  Also, being a utility guy who has moved around alot can actually be an asset.  He reportedly spent alot of his time on the bench over the years paying attention to strategy, etc.  And having moved around, he has 6-7 former teams to approach about a post-playing career job.

I too hope the Astros can figure a way to keep him around if/when he hangs 'em up.
