Where were you sitting and how many games do you go to that a $1 or $2 increase is getting near pricing you out?

10-15 games/year, and I'm admittedly a field box snob.  If I can't sit there, I'd rather watch on TV.  Call me whatever you want for that opinion, but that's the way I am.  Although I did sit in the bullpen boxes (front row overlooking the pen) once this year for the first time, and I enjoyed those seats a lot more than I thought I would.  I don't think those would be as much fun if you weren't on the front row though.

And true, I  can afford them, it's just the cheapskate in me that feels like darn near $40 for a ticket is too expensive.  Yes, a $2 increase isn't much, but those same seats were (if I recall correctly) <$20 only 4-5 years ago.

Shit Jim, I thought you would remember when they were a pennny.  Look, I was just making a comment for my own personal situation.  If you feel like $40 for a Wednesday night game versus the Brewers is in your budget, knock yourself out.  I'm an admitted cheapskate - sue me.

I enjoy the $12 upper deck seat; out from the ramp and down... good view from most any section, lots of fun.

off topic, sort of, but how much are good seats at Dell Diamond?

$12.00 tops, but there really is not a bad seat in the house.

Edit:  If you go by yourself, you can sit front row behind home plate,  with a little 'ol lady right next to you who has been to every game.

Maybe being a cheapskate and being a field box snob are incompatible.  So it's not the Astros pricing you out, it's trying to be two things that may not go together.  Even at 10-15 games a year, that's costing you, what, $20 or $30 more?  Hell, cut out one game and you've more than made up the difference.

I like to sit in different places during the year, just to get a different perspective.  The only really bad seats are the obstructed view rows at the top of the view deck.  The terrace deck between the bases and the bullpen boxes are probably the best deal for the price.

Exactly.  That's like saying "I really only like the '62 Chateau Lafitte but I refuse to pay more than $4.99 a bottle."

I've never claimed that my "cheapskatedness" made any sense.  I'm more of a quality over quantity guy.  My wife never has understood how I can buy an expensive dinner, great wine, great beer, etc. for any price, but I refuse to buy a new shirt, new shoes, etc. until they go on sale.  Completely different things, in my opinion.  And I readily admit this only makes sense in my mind.  I've been known to have buyers remorse for MONTHS after a relatively small purchase.

I didn't mean to cause such a commotion with my statement - I just really meant to show everybody that the Astros had released the new ticket prices.  I'll still go to the games, I'll still pay the prices, I just think that it's getting dangerously close to what *I* consider too expensive.  There is a tipping point to any pricing decision, don't you think?

We do the same thing, but I think we've pretty much settled on the terrace deck from 313-325 or thereabouts as the best balance of view vs. price.  Haven't really ever sat in what I'd consider "bad" seats, though the outer reaches of the mezzanine was getting pretty close.

Actually, I don't like the field boxes at all.  Only sat there once last year and the line-of-sight to the field is so flat that someone coming or going was constantly in the way.  I also don't remember when fans got to be so rude as to not wait between innings (or at least between batters) to be on-the-move, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

We undertand.  It's just that we're hammering on you because...well...because we're bored.  It's kind of like torching ants with a magnifying glass.

I get the same feeling when I plunk down $55 to watch Texas play ULaLa or Rice... but what can you do? It's worth it to me.

ahh you missed many grand and glorius discussions bout rude fans or ignornant ones needing fan manners 101. yes they do move during innings and of couse stand up at the exact moment the grand slam goes out of there..but i have come to accept this too is part of baseball and the privledge and honor of being in a game in person...as for the bit of extra money mentioned go without one coke during the game that will make up the difference
forever is composed entirely of nows

But then we'd actually have to go to Fenway and watch an AL game.  That's not worth any amount of money.
Here are just a few of the key ingredients: dynamite, pole vaulting, laughing gas, choppers - can you see how incredible this is going to be?
