Longest Wait for Repeat Appearance in WS?
« on: October 20, 2005, 02:49:11 pm »
Anyone happen to know?

I've had to explain to each and every family member why I'm selling art to buy $4,000 worth of tickets to a SPORTING EVENT (except my wife and father) and I keep trying to explain that it's been 43 years and it could be ANOTHER 43 years.

Anyone know what the longest wait right now is to RETURN to the Series after making it (Cubs?) ?

Thanks.

Since the last Cubs WS appearance was 1945, I assume it has to be them.

How about the Senators? 1933. Do the Nationals count for this?

No. The Nats have the Expos history.

Right.  Senators/Twins.  Senators2/Rangers.  Nats/Expos.

Lots of huge waits in here.

33 for the Braves.  41 for the A's.  30 for the Phils.  Hell, even the Yankees went 15 years without an appearance and that wasn't THAT long ago.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, for crissakes, haven't been in 17 years and have no reason to believe they're going back anytime soon.

$4,000 seems a small price to pay.

Cards went 18 years once.  Dodgers went 21 years.  Giants went 27 years.  Cubs obviously still mired in a 60 year slump (barely counts).  White Sox broke the 46 year slump last week.  22 years for the Orioles/Browns.  21 years for the Reds.  33 years for the Pirates.

Pretty incredible, really.  Almost no Original Sixteen team has been spared from a decades-long drought.

I think I'll go this year.  Maybe I'll take my grandkids to the next one.

The Phillies won the pennant in 1915, 1950 and 1980. So that's spans of 35 and 30 years.  Tell them at that rate it might be 2040 then 2070 again before they make it.
