How the other half lives...
« on: October 10, 2005, 11:11:45 am »
Braves "fans" licking their wounds. From the game recap on  BravesBeat.com:

Quote:

Brad Ausmus hit a double that was scored a home run because the power alleys in this park are a joke.

There are definitely some joke HR hit at MMPUS, but that didn't look like one of them. Not a titanic blast, but not a joke either.

Also, their  in-game discussion thread is FULL of complaints about MMPUS's dimensions.

Quote:

It (Ausmus's HR) wasn't a homer in any normal ballpark. Neither was the grand slam. I hate that they're allowed to pull this crap.

It went 406 feet.  What park is that not a home run in?

Atlanta Fulton Co. Stadium was called what?

I'm as critical of the Crawfraud boxes as anyone, but Ausmus' ball (and Burke's) were legitimate taters.

Yes, whine about the dimensions of the strike zone, I mean park. At least that is the same for both teams.  I dont suppose anyone brought up the two fly balls to center that AJones caught at the foot of the hill?  Those went about 410 feet.

This is so tough to swallow. Beat by bad umpiring (Julio clearly had his toe on the bag), Brad f'n Ausmus and an actor with Down syndrome.

Nice. I wonder what he's trying to swallow.

a big reason why the braves lost this series, from that thread right after berkman hit the grand slam:

"Shake it off, Kyle.  It's still a one run game with the Braves best reliever on the mound.  Keep perspective"

My favorite:

I would like to take this moment to thank all of you all for a great couple of seasons of talking about baseball. Regretfully, I have decided I am through with baseball. After 14 years of getting to the gates of the promise land and only entering once, I can't take much more. After today's game I realized we are not ever going to win another on again. You are all great people and if you ever need something from me my e-mail is [email protected]

This whole "bandbox dimensions" argument is such a non-starter inre Minute Maid for anything but high loft fly balls that only reach the first couple of rows.  How often does that happen?  And for every one of those rare moments, there are probably 3 or 4 415 foot bombs that land in center fielders' gloves.

For liners that clear the front of the Crawford boxes, at that height they'd clear just about any other major league park's 12, 10, 8, or 4 ft wall anyway.  It's something to talk about for those who are more interested in legends and cliches than facts and analysis.

Hey shithead Braves fans - your team has won their fucking division  every single year since Roger Clemens was in his 20's. What the FUCK are you whining about?

Also, please note that the seats in left field do not magically disappear when the visitors bat nor does center field magically shrink when the home team bats.

Jesus.
