It was softball night last night...

so I didn't get to watch the game.

Did Smoltz have his best stuff last night? Or did the Astros
miss some opportunities to get to him.

good chance in the 1st, but AE had an awful AB. after the Braves took the lead, it was little but first pitch FBs from JS. we had some decent swings but did little. had a chance for a run in the 8th, but Chipper made a great play on Biggio. Roger was not sharp, but the HR was his only bad pitch that hurt.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Unfortunately, the home run pitch was fat, and right down the middle.
Completely changed the momentum of the game, and once Smoltz was on top, the Good Guys were in serious trouble.

Smoltz was getting corner calls that Clemens wasn't, but it wasn't Snivelling Women style bad.

When those first two pitches missed, I told myself, 'please Rog, don't try to blow it by him.'

2-0 to a guy I know nothing about with John "Baldasaurus" Smoltz on deck....

Come on Rog, pitch around him, nothing fa... BOOM. Shit.

He later said he tried to go low and away with that pitch and missed.

Not surprising... Rain is always going to present problems for pitchers.
Smoltz couldn't throw his breaking ball for a strike early to save his life.
Lucky for him, we were going to swing at every breaking ball we saw anyway, so it didn't matter.

Smoltz must have had dry balls.

Sorry, couldn't pass it up.
