Astros get ahead 3-1 against Cards

The game opened focusing in a 97 year old woman, best seat in the house, right behind home.   She had on 125 year old hair and was talking on a 135 year old cell phone. Thought it was LaRussa.  Also, as I was watching the game I was switching over to the Firefly marathon between innings.

In the bottom the first, Sparky got into a spot of trouble, runners 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, Sanders up.  Luckily Brad did his homework and knows that Reg can no longer hit the fastball.  He Ks on a 91 mph heater up.

Scoreboard watch, 5th, 3-0 Mets.

In the 2nd, JD relays that Clemens wasn?t able to ?hook up? for 2 days with the person who gives him treatment on his hamstring.  W. T. F. ?

As I was shaking the bb back in the hole in my head after hearing that one, Lamb, at first, scoops a low throw from Everett for an out.  Then he ends the inning ranging to his right, corralling the bobble and tossing to Roy.

Top the 3rd, Molina pounces on a one out squibbler by Roy.  He scoops it when Oswalt is 2 feet from the bag and wings him out.  Taveras lines a single to right but, Eckstein to Grudzielanek to Pujols doubles up Biggio and the Co?s set their season dp record, 194.

Firefly quote, ?It?s nothin till you don?t got one.?  They may have been talking about runs.

Bottom the 3rd Edmonds singles, Sparky gets Pujols (0-4) to expand on a high fastball and pops to left.   Cathead, (3-4) with 2 outs, singles, suddenly Brownie knows  who Susan Lucie is.  Then Reggie Sanders, again, mismatched on the high fastball rolls over to short.

The top the 4th, Firefly flip over, ?Ya?ll gonna be here when I wake up?? And scoreboard, Phillies down 3-2 batting in the 6th.  Lane ends the inning by fouling out on a 3-2 high and inside fastball.

Bottom the 4th, Sparky has his first 1-2-3 inning, striking out 2.

5th, things are hotting up.  Firefly, ?Pupils are fixed and dilapidated.?  Morris, flings a 2-2 pitch right under Ausmus? chin.   Hitting him in the hand as he flinches up.  He stands on 1st for 20 minutes while they look at his finger.   The Tank Commander? s pronouncement that major league pitchers only throw at the head when they mean to, is completely ignored.  Next up, Oswalt bunts to Morris, he goes to 2nd, pulling Eckstein off the bag, safe at 2nd.  Then Eckstein?s weak ass throw to 1st, Oswalt safe.  Now Grandma totters out to complain, like he was trying to send back cold soup at a deli.  So 2 on, 1 out, Taveras, Biggio advance nobody.

In the 5th Oswalt, visibly pissed, throws Morris a freakin curve to strike him out.  Eckstein beats out a grounder past the mound.  Edmonds up, Oswalt strikes him out, Eckstein, breaks and Brad throws him out for the strike em out throw em out dp.  Fuck the finger.  Fuck you Matt Morris and fuck you Tony LaRussa.

Alright, the top the 6th, Ensberg skies a pop up to the infield, Berkman strikes out looking on a questionable low and away fastball, which he questions.  Lamb blasts a single through 1st and 2nd.  Then Jason Lane.  Morris goes away, away, away, 2-1, knee high fastball, deposited neatly over Edmonds in center.  2-0 Astros.

Bottom the 6th, Firefly ?Just once, I?d like things to go according to the Goram plan.?   Pujols weak pop out to right, but only after he questions the call on a  bouncer, foul by a foot, down the 3b line.  Tank Commander whinged about that one for a while.  Walker doubles over Taveras moving to right center, then Sparky throws one too many high fastballs to Sanders.  He misses a homer by 2 feet off the right field wall but doubles home Walker.  2-1 Astros.  With one out, Roy slows down.  He K?s Grudzielanek on a hanging slider.  Then gets Nunez to hit a lazy fly on a big curve.  Brownie says, about the Astros, ?Don?t try to figure.?

7th, Firefly quote ?Next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face.?  TC brings on Marquis, COME ON!  I think he?s moving his tanks out.   The quote of the night, from Mike Lamb, ?If Brad Lidge is a baby giraffe, Lance Berkman would be a an adult giraffe.?

With Lidge warming, Roy whips through the 7th.

Biggio leads off the 8th, looks at a ball high, 2-0 low and away, steps out; Brownie says ?Mets beat Phils, 3-2, final.?  Then Biggio steps back in and hits his career high 25th homerun on a high fastball.  3-1.

Garner brings on the Pope in the 8th.  He rips through Edmomds, Pujols, and Walker on 8 pitches.

In the 9th, the Pope breaks the cardinal?rule and walks the first batter, but, he atones by picking off the pinch runner.  Then gets an easy grounder and strikes out the pinch hitter on a slider.  Game over.

Backe v. Carpenter, 7:05, unless it rains.
