I bet there's no decent Tex-Mex in Panama City either.
Tex Mex, no sir. There's one place I've been meaning to try that's supposed to be pretty good. I was stopped at a light the other day right in front of it and I noticed that they offer a grand total of three parking spots. So I hope it's not too popular.
There are a couple of taquerias around that aren't as bad as they could be. The best one used to be literally right next door to my building in a sort of food truck park that sadly and inexplicably disappeared one day. The Mexican place is now a few blocks away.
https://www.mordidadeburro.comThere are some truly excellent restaurants here, places I would put up against any place anywhere. But outside of this group of a dozen special places it can be pretty rough sledding. There are now three Vietnamese places here, and none of them is worth a shit. I think that restaurants feel like they need to tailor their offerings to the lamentable local palate. I understand, but on the whole think this is a mistake.
Peruvian restaurants are abundant but not as good as they should be. Japanese food here is a disgrace. Cuban as bad or maybe even worse. For a country with an enormous Chinese population you'd think that interesting Chinese places would be easier to find. Strangely enough there are a couple of pretty good Korean places. In my experience the Koreans are basically completely disinterested in altering their cuisine for anyone for any reason.
I wonder what would happen if you opened a Chuy's sort of place here.
