Very strange that the most sabermetric oriented team is moving its best hitter to get fewer ABs. Then again, most say that lineup construction has little effect anyway.

Hooks guy covering for him on radio.

DP ball to Correa, fumbles, then rifles it to 1b for the out.

Runner on 2b and some really shitty fielding going on.

Gomez reaches on a bunt, Marwin doubles him home, and the Astros then run themselves out of the inning on a failed bunt and CS.

Strikeouts sandwich a sharp grounder to Correa, and we're through 5, 3-1 good guys.

His contract has up to $5mm more in incentives for IP hurdles, so he's a likely trade candidate if this team isn't in it at the deadline. Doubt that the powers that be want to heap that kind of cash on a guy pitching for a team with its season circling the drain.

They're 5 games under .500 and only 5 out for a wild card spot. This season has been a disappointment for sure but it's FAR from over. If some of the beyond shitty play happens to balance out I doubt the Astros sell. It's not like it's a bloated payroll.

Key words in my post were "if this team isn't in it at the deadline"

And, if this team isn't in it at the deadline, the track record suggest the team will explore the trade of non-core players, of which Fister will be one.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Sounds like a lovely Tuesday.

Is that what day it is? I have a week off and the house to myself. The plan was to lose track of the day of the week. Mission accomplished!

Clutch hits obviously don't exist, but if they do, Fister is the king of the Astros' mountain.

Since moving Springer off my bench into my starting lineup two weeks ago, he has been ice cold. I could be convinced to move him back to the bench for a nominal fee.

Why would you make a point of saying that Doug Fister is not clutch? Do you especially think that Doug Fister is *not* clutch?

Yes. He wronged my father's good name and refused to meet me on the dueling grounds.

My Tennenbaums Eli Cash joke reference aside, your focus on preciseness of language may be a little too honed for the GZ. Never thought a comment conflating Fister, hitting, and/or the existence of clutch would ever been acknowledged as serious, much less greeted with condescension.

That must really be a bad case of "laryngitis" Ashby caught.

Let him take as long as needed to recover.

I couldn't agree more. I miss the NL daily. I love these type of games where a pitcher has a decent start and also accounts for half of the offense. Pure baseball.

Fister done for the night. 7.1 innings of high quality pitching, plus as many RBI as White has in the last month.

Being an engineer, I'm all about optimizing tradeoffs, and that's why I think NL ball is much more interesting than AL ball. It's also one of the reasons I like soccer more than football.

Let him take as long as needed to recover.

The explanations seem to be increasingly limited to the following:

- rehab stint for substance abuse so severe that it prevented him from remembering anything remotely related to baseball after a long career in the sport
- forced leave after Julia filed a restraining order
- relocation to the announcer glue factory

All jokes aside, if something ails ash, I wish him a speedy recovery, but the timing and duration of his absence is perplexing.

I wonder when the last time Gomez had his eyes checked. He can't see for shit, maybe glasses would help.

Damn it was nice having Ford do the TV broadcast. I love him on the radio, but nice to see him transition so smoothly to the different demands of TV action.

Blum commented on the glasses during the broadcast and Ford said they were non-prescription. I don't know why one would wear non-prescription glasses during an evening game though.

I see I'm Cabreraing jbm. Nevermind.
