Interesting interview with stassi on the radio pregame. Comes from a long family tradition of pro ball players. His great uncle played with Yankees and became great friends with Ruth after decking him in the clubhouse after babe wouldn't stop chirping about an error great uncle stassi made.

Amazing that no matter how badly he has struggled this year, pitchers continue to pitch carefully to Carter.

T2:

Marwin singles over the LFers head, LFer bobbles it, Marwin to 2B...guess it's ruled a double
Carter walks on four pitches
Stassi...showing bunt...sac bunt, out 5-3, Marwin to 3B, Carter to 2B
Marisnick sac fly to VERY shallow RF, Marwin scores...Reddick didn't think Marwin would go and got caught flat footed
Springer flies out F8

Astros regain lead 2-1

Springer's emphatic safe call on the tag play at the plate was my highlight of the game so far.

Really nice bunting technique by Stassi. So many guys jab at bunts nowadays and screw them up. And it pays off with a run by Marwin (who was pretty fortunate still to be alive after nearly getting picked off second earlier in Stassi's AB).

Trying to score runs when you get the chance.  The Astros have really been struggling to get runs across when they get RISP.  They've now scored two runs without a hit because they've played small ball.

A little bit toward the line. The bigger problem was Lawrie (or whoever's playing 2nd) was there, too, and cut in front of him. In fact, it wasn't immediately clear to me who caught the ball, only that it hadn't fallen to the ground.

No...he was tagging, but the second baseman was going out and Reddick was coming in...couldn't tell who was going to catch it.  Reddick ended up catching it basket style.  Marwin started then stopped then started again.  Reddick caught it and went to lob it back in, when he realized Marwin was running.  Had to start and start again on the throw home.  It was a perfect throw, he just got caught not anticipating the runner going.

Lawrie snatched at it right as it came down in to his glove. Was a really ugly looking play.

And, I'm sure this comment won't hold up under any intense analytical scrutiny, but this team seems to perform better offensively once they have pushed a couple across like it reduces the pressure.

Well, his natural profession just going by his name is porn. So he's got a career after baseball.

Oh for fuck's sake, Carter. Just get injured so I don't have to watch you play anymore.

The showed a slow mo replay and he watched the ball all the way into...well off of the glove.  Taking his eye off wasnt the issue.

B4:

Valencia with a leadoff walk
Lawrie singles to LCF...Gomez lets it go by him, rolls all the way to wall, E8...Valencia scores, Lawrie to 3B...holy shit, ruled a triple.  Ridiculous
Butler strikes out swinging
Smolinski...infield in...strikes out swinging
Phegley flies out F9

But A's get what should be an unearned run to tie it at 2

Just get rid of the balk rule. It's enforced so inconsistently that it's a net loss.

This guy balks on every throw to 1B and every throw to 2B.  If that's not a balk, then there is no such thing.

100 percent on Altuve. You've got to initiate the contact, you can't just assume it's interference because Altuve decided to stutter-step.

B6:

Valencia with another leadoff walk
Lawrie walks on four pitches, none of them within 3 feet of the plate

That's it for Fiers...Josh Fields in

Butler singles to LF...Marwin gave up awfully early...Valencia to 3B, Lawrie to 2B
Crisp to pinch hit for Smolinski...doubles off the RF wall...Valencia scores, Lawrie scores, Butler to 3B
Phegley grounds out 5-3, runners have to hold
Semien...infield in...the number 9 hitter...walks to load the bases
Burns...infield still in...chops one just out of Altuve's reach, as he stops to let Semien by...Butler scores, Crisp scores, Semien to 3B

Hinch out to argue interference, but not going anywhere.

Canha singles to RF, Semien scores, Burns to 2B

Field out, Thatcher in

Reddick walks...the fourth of the inning

That's it for Thatcher...Velasquez in

Valencia grounds into FC, Reddick out 6-4, but Altuve's throw on the turn is wide and high, Burns scores
Lawrie strikes out swinging

Inning mercifully comes to an end.  But A's now lead 8-2

Villar, pinching hitting for Carter, homers to LF
Stassi singles up the middle

That's it for Doubront...Rodriguez in

Marisnick strikes out swinging... had no chance
Springer walks on four pitches, Stassi to 2B
Altuve reaches four feet outside swinging with one hand and pops out to RF
Correa homers to LCF, Stassi scores, Springer scores
Gomez with a soft liner right at second baseman

3 hours later, we're finally at the stretch...A's up 8-6

The scout that got him signed should be really proud.

So Villar is PHing for Carter?

Fun.

I still can't understand Carter's purpose on this roster.

T8:

Pomeranz in for the A's

Gattis pops up to 2B, Lawrie drops it, E4...Gattis ends up at 2B because he ran it out all the way
Marwin flies out F7, Gattis tags and moves to 3B
Villar grounds out 4-3, Villar scores
Lowrie, pinch hitting for Stassi, singles to LF
Marisnick homers to LCF, Lowrie scores

That's it for Pomeranz, Mujica in

Springer pops out...Canha runs it down somewhere in Nevada

But...Astros cut it to a one run game

10-9

Doolittle on for the A's

Altuve pops up the first pitch, F4
Correa pops up the first pitch, F4
Gomez...takes two meatballs right down the pipe...strikes out swinging at a pitch over his head

Astros get 11 hits, including 3 HRs, score 9 runs....and lose.

That was the single shittiest ending to a game I've seen in a REALLY long time. Altuve's lack of game/sitautional awareness just breaks my brain sometimes.

I was almost disappointed that Altuve was leading off that inning.  I knew he'd be hacking at whatever was thrown up there.

Well, that one's on the bullpen. You shouldn't lose when you score 9 runs.

Nope, but you look back on a couple of plays...the RBI "triple" that Gomez let get past him cost a run.  The "single" by Burns that snuck past a hesitant Altuve after you bring the infield in because you don't think you can double up  Burns cost two runs.  The double play you didn't get on a bad throw that scored a run...there was only one error, but they didn't exactly throw the leather around today.
