So at what point in the next few years do the Astros start talking long term deal with him and just how much money is it gonna take?  He looks like he's going to get an Arod type deal at some point in the future.  It's crazy to offer a player more than 100 million before they're 25, but I think it's not so crazy in this case.

I wonder if his agent would be willing to go 6 years also?  Giving such a young players so much money does give you some leverage though.

Carlos Correa has played 51 games. Triple his numbers:

153 games
42 HR, 108 RBI, 93 runs
.291/.345/.567
51 BB, 123 K
24/30 stolen bases

I'm not sure whether a linear extrapolation is an underestimate or an overestimate considering he is only 20 on his first call-up. It's hard to imagine him being better.

For me it's hard to imagine him not getting a lot better as he continues to mature.

To hell with "next few years", I hope they lock him up in the next few weeks. I'm actually a little disappointed, and mildly surprised, that they didn't work something out around the time of his call-up. Of course it would take more than Singleton money, or even Longoria money, but if there's ever a rookie to bet $40m+ on...

Not to rain on the parade, but Brett Lawrie had similar numbers in his first season.

Note: I think Correa is for real and will be a much, much better player than Lawrie over their careers.

As great as he has been at the plate, he has been even better in the field.  The folks that thought he'd have to move to 3rd when he got to MLB, missed on that prediction.

Daily he is making, drop your jaw, run saving plays in the field.  3 times in the last couple weeks he has made just ridiculous plays to end innings with runners on, that have saved the Astros.    I had no idea he was going to be this good in the field.

I am trying not to get too excited (for fear of jinxing things) but the thought of getting to watch CC play SS for the foreseeable future is pretty fucking fantastic.

Think they mentioned this on the broadcast the other night, but if you tossed all the players in the league in a hat and redrafted, how far do you think Carlos makes it?

Not very.  Probably not past the first round.

I think he'd go first because of the position he plays.

I am an enormous Correa homer but any GM that doesn't take Trout ought to pantsed and fired.

Maybe Hinch should sit Carlos for one of the Giants' games next week. That would give him 3 days rest in a 4 day stretch. He probably won't see much bench time as long as he Astros have post season hopes.

I would think a lot of teams would consider pitching for their first pick, but Correa would be in the top 10 position players.

If money didn't matter and it was picking a player for multiple years I think unless someone is insane that clearly Trout, Correa, Harper would be the first 3 off the board.

I could easily see someone taking Kershaw ahead of Correa and Harper.

And this exact topic gets discussed in Jonah Keri's Monday column.

His take, strong case for Correa as the next guy after Trout and Harper.
