Apparently there will be a six-man rotation for the near future with Peacock coming back for his next start. Obie will get a start, too. Perhaps a pitch-off for Obie and Peacock to see who gets to stay?

That's what Ford and Sparks said on today's broadcast.

It feels really strange and wrong to think of the Astros as having really good pitching depth. And of course injuries can decimate that in a hurry. But now you've got Folty, Tropeano, presumably Wojo, and even Buchanan knocking on the door and seemingly nowhere to put them. If the good times keep rolling with Keuchel and McHugh, you could almost start to wonder about trying Cosart as a closer or something crazy like that.

Cosart would need to step up the K's as a closer.

Here are the next 4...

And improve his command.

Huh? I would think command is more important for a starter. As to Ks, Happy, don't you think Cosart could crank it up a notch in short relief and throw a bit harder? Anyway, he gets so many ground balls, I don't know if he's a guy that NEEDS to strike out a ton of batters in order to be successful.

JG makes a good point about the need for improving command. Cosart has stuff that should be inducing more swings and misses. I suspect that he'll figure that out.

Sure, improved command would obviously help him as a pitcher, period. I'm just not sure I understand the logic behind juliogotay's implied statement "They can't convert him from a starter to a closer unless he improves his command." Isn't having good command more important for a starter?

I'd agree with that, mainly because starters need efficiency and that is Cosart's biggest problem, IMO.

I don't really know if command is more important as a starter or a reliever. I may have spoke too soon and I think the best statement on this was yours of improved command would obviously help him as a pitcher period. When we talk about moving him to the pen I always assume we're talking about the closer role and that is no place to be walking guys when  you are trying to protect a lead and go home. Sometimes Cosart just seems to struggle with mechanics and looks out of sort for a while and usually gets by with stuff and guts. I don't think that's what you want in a closer and at this point of his career I think he needs a lot of innings to help him develop and get his mechanics down which he will only get starting. I also think of closers as getting about a K per inning which he clearly isn't but maybe in that role he could amp it up a little. He does have that good cutter and Rivera got by pretty good on that.

More importantly, how would you structure a division series rotation?

Game 1: Keuchel
Game 2: Feldman
Game 3: McHugh
Game 4: Peacock (or Keuchel on short rest)

That was kind of fun to think about

You're right. Cosart fights his mechanics a lot out there. I've seen different release points on successive pitches, so sometimes there's no consistency in delivery. He needs to understand that he's on a 100 pitch count, so he needs to be efficient if he wants to see the sixth inning.
