Broncos at Texans
« on: December 18, 2013, 01:09:32 pm »
Can we go ahead and start this thread?

Keenum out.  Matt Schaub to start.

Ben Tate, out of the season.

Like a dumbass, I'll be getting up at 05:00 to go to the game.  At least we're having chili and tamales.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

In all fairness, we've been able to confirm that Keenum is likely a back-up in the NFL and that statistically, Pick-Six isn't that far off.

Yeah, I think we got the answers to the questions that needed to be answered.

They've got a bunch of needs. I think I'd like to see them trade down a bit and get a bunch of draft picks. Teddy Bridgewater just doesn't excite me (if he even comes out).

Yeah, although Pick-Six has done a helluva lot more to lose his job, and lose games for the Texans.

How bad does the brain trust here think the Texans' needs are?  Bad enough to trade Watt for cornucopia of goodies?

There's the obvious black hole at QB; but then there's a dire need at left tackle, at linebacker and in the entire secondary.  Having more than one functional wide receiver would be nice and, if Foster's injury woes continue, we could find ourselves with a running back (Tate skipping off to free agency this off-season).

Watt has two years left under the control of the Texans.  Usually, a player of his calibre would have been signed to a huge contract by now but if I was JJ there's no way I re-up with the Texans until I know where the team is going.

The Texans also have enormous needs at every position on defense, DL, OLB, ILB, CB, S. It's crazy how mismanaged this team is and how poorly they've drafted year after year.

I don't really care who the coach is or who the first overall pick is, what I'm mainly wishing for is a head coach with enough presence to bring his own GM or at least bring someone who will effectively be in charge of the draft.

But the idea that the Texans can be next year's Kansas City is just bizarre. The Texans will be next year's Texans.

Agreed.  Hence my pondering of a ground-up rebuild, using Watt as the Texans equivalent of Herschel Walker.

And you have the confidence that the Texans would use that bounty wisely?

0% chance unless he tells Bob he won't re-sign.  IMO, greatest needs, in order, are  QB, edge rushers, RT.  Watt demands the attention of two blockers on every play.  It's truly remarkable that the Texans' brain trust has not been able to find anyone that can just beat his man and get to the Qb without watt chasing the qb around until he trips over worthless Texan defender X with 1.5 "sacks" on the season.

The man or men responsible for the defensive selections of the past couple drafts needs to not be around next year.

I marvel at this every week. Teams double and occasionally triple team Watt. Wade almost always rushes five. The numbers don't make any sense. Yet the QB almost invariably has all day long to survey the field. The halfback that the offense kept in to block is standing there looking bored. It's crazy.

Bob Allen says that the Texans passed on Peyton Manning:

Quote
“Spencer Tillman works with Archie (Manning) in New York on CBS on the weekends,” Allen said on SportsRadio 610. “When Peyton became free and clear Archie told Spencer that Houston was his first choice.”

They don't think they're in bad shape at all.  McNair thinks a tweak here and there and they're a Super Bowl team.  Poor dumb bastard.
