The hiring was a surprise...the firing, not so much.  Hey, I hear Terry Francona is available!

And how about his old bench coach?

Dumbest. Hire. Ever. The result was predictable. I'd have fired the GM who hired him.

The story most often repeated is that CEO Larry Lucchino fought to get Valentine hired against the wishes of Cherington, who wanted Dale Sveum to manage the team. While Boston's top execs wasted time bickering, Epstein snatched Sveum out from under them and Lucchino ended up getting his way. That's my recollection, anyway.

Cherington reportedly preferred Gene Lamont over Valentine too.

I always thought Lamont handled drama well. He might work in Boston

I was watching that show Being Liverpool the other day about the football club from the EPL and they followed them to their visit of Fenway park on their US tour. Bobby Valentine was there on the show and came off as the biggest, most condescending asshole in about 2 minutes of actual screen time.

So.  Factual show, then.

Liverpool fans = Yankee fans, just without the recent/ongoing success.

Subtract success, add a cheerful rash of burglaries.
