Seems like a worthy risk. I don't know much about him at all, but looking at his splits for this year, he was awful at the White Sox' park- 8.44 ERA, 1.96 WHIP, and 14 HR allowed in just 48 IP. On the road, not too too bad, 4.67 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 9 HR in 54 IP. And of course, in 2011 he had a very nice year, 3.75 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 14 HR allowed in 163 IP. If you believe the "real" Humber is somewhere between that and his 2012 road numbers, that's not bad at all, maybe a 4.20ish ERA? Fingers crossed.

Too bad they got rid of Galarraga, they could have had a perfect game and a near perfect game starter in the rotation. That would have meant sometime to someone somewhere I think. At the very least to Jayson Stark.

Humber to the orange and blue....

Meh. I watched him throw twice last season and couldn't figure out how he ever got hitters out. I didn't see an out pitch.

Uh oh... Humber better watch out, Happy needs someone to step into that special place in his heart formerly occupied by JA Happ.

Perish the thought. The difference between Humber and Happ is, in my opinion, Happ has big league stuff but just nibbles way too much. Humber's stuff, when I've seen him pitch, hasn't been too impressive.

But.....he's a former 1st rounder.

Uncle Charlie, is there a particular reason your thread spells Filling "Philling" Out the Roster? That was the previous guy, remember?

I may be wrong, but maybe it's an obscure reference to Humber's first name.

The Astros just claimed him off waivers, right? So they gave up nothing and his salary is only like $1.1M. He's not going to be a top 3 guy or anything, but if he can eat some innings for that price, I think this is a very good gamble.
