MLB once again pacifies Lynn Nolan
« on: July 12, 2012, 02:31:29 pm »
MLB ruled that the Rangers' contract with Jairo Beras is legal.  For those who don't remember, this was the kid who they signed for $4.5M several months back, but other teams complained that they didn't know he was eligible to sign.  The kid had been pretending to be 16, even providing a birth certificate and playing for teams and showcases as a 16-year old.  After the new CBA took effect and he saw that it was going to cost him a lot of money, he suddenly became 17.  The problem was, teams and MLB themselves, didn't know that he was 17.  This led to a lengthy investigation, where MLB did rule that he had lied about his age.  Instead of having his contract voided, as MLB has done several times before in similar cases, he receives a 1-year suspension, which really means nothing as he can still work out at the team's complex.

Will MLB and FYB go to any lengths whatsoever to appease and pacify that ego-maniacal turd? Obviously. I get the distinct impression that MLB and FYB will stop at nothing to see that the stRangers win the WS. Nothing.

They have a long, long way to go to catch up with David Stern.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Even in something as seemingly unrelated as this, FYB comes down on the side of the thing that may potentially hurt the Astros.  I don't care how old he is, if I ever got within striking distance, I would load up and send the considerable weight of my entire body, through my right leg, into my foot, and up into his saggy, wrinkled, merkin-wearing swingers.

Here are a couple of quotes from the BA writeup:

Quote
Because Beras signed before this year's international signing period, his contract will not count against the Rangers' 2012-13 international bonus pool. The Rangers also will face no penalties from the signing.

Had Beras been subject to the new bonus rules or had his contract terminated by the league, he likely would have signed for far less than $4.5 million. And while he will have to sit out a year, had he signed on July 2, he would have signed a 2013 contract and likely would not have played in a game anyway until June 2013, when short-season play begins. So compared to other top international signings from this year, he'll miss less than a month of games.

Way to take a stand, MLB!  If you're going to say your cracking down on players providing false identities, do it, even if it's a Goodell-like purpose statement that doesn't really solve the underlying issue.

That makes me puke.
