MLB.TV

So... I'm going to go with MLB.TV Premium ($119.99) over Extra Innings (approx. $180) again this year for a couple of reasons:

(1) I can access it pretty much anytime from anywhere; and
(2) I can chose my broadcast (i.e. JD and Brownie 97% of the time, skipping to Vin Sculy when the Astros play the Dodgers, as that opportunity will be gone in a short time).

So, this brings me to my question:

My home notebook has a fairly crappy media/graphics card, which makes streaming the video onto my TV sketchy at times, so I was thinking about buying a Roku XDS player ($99.99) to make watching the MLB.TV games easier on my home TV.  Anyone tried the Roku, or have alternative suggestions?  Thanks!

In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

That would be the $800 (est.) iPad2 I'm presuming...

Apple TV works with MLB.TV directly, and is also $99.  However, I would only recommend ATV over another, more flexible, unit if you have a lot of iTunes content or plan to use iTunes for the majority of your media purchases / rentals.

I have Roku and highly recommend it.  I watched MLB.TV on it frequently last season.  You'll have a little delay, but nothing terrible.  I also watch Netflix, Al Jazeera English, and a slew of other news programs on Roku.  Well worth a small investment.

Ha.  Al Jazeera's the best way to follow what's going on in the world and the Middle East.  Although, I'll hand it to Anderson Cooper and his 360 crew.  They covered Egypt extremely well.  It was over for Mubarak after Cooper got smashed in the face a few times.

Back to the original topic, Pandora's a nice feature of Roku too.  There are a ton of dirt cheap movie channels you can get with classic flicks.  Access to Amazon's 'on demand' streaming movies is great too.  It's only like $3 per movie.

Al Jazeera in English is awesome. You get a slice of the news without feeling like you're being addressed by a fake fuckwit.

Isn't the whole point of the Burka to prevent exactly that?

The beauty of the whole thing is that because of the burkas, you've got nothing to compare against, and whatever you find *is* Padma as far as you're concerned.

I am a Roku/MLB.TV guy and also highly recommend it. We actually have two Rokus in our house now. My latest purchase was the step down from the premium, as I couldn't envision needing the XDS features.

I've done MLBEI in the past, but being able to listen to JD/Brownie makes MLB.TV clearly superior. When the game is blacked out in your market, you can get the audio through MLB as well.

As far as Roku, I listen to Pandora and Mog almost all weekend and most weeknights as background music through the TV. We also, of course, do Netflix instant stream, Hulu Plus (which still has technical problems), and Amazon on Demand (and now instant stream as well since we are Prime members).

If you couldn't tell, we don't have cable anymore, just Internet.
