Youngest soldier in modern times?

Sorta. Story really choked me up. I have a new appreciation for "Make-A-Wish" type charities since my son's best friend died this past October.

Great story. Thanks for the link!

My sister was diagnosed with an (undifferentiated) rhabdomyosarcoma when she was 9 (way back in the day).  Though she survived, the prognosis was not good at the time and the treatment for this cancer was awful.  As part of her wish, Make-A-Wish flew her out to Los Angeles to meet Ricky Schroeder (then of Silver Spoons fame). It was a very special time for her, and I will forever appreciate Make-A-Wish and Schroeder (who was a kid himself at the time, who did not have to open himself up to meeting a dying child) for making that event happen.

As an aside, the nurses at Texas Children's Hospital were beyond amazing, as were the Sunshine Kids, and the Ronald McDonald charities. [BTW, don't be afraid to drop your extra change in the box when you go through a McDonald's drive-through, I cannot begin to describe the great things that these, pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters end up being able to accomplish].
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)
