KSU @ UT

Just tuned in and have already seen the refs give the Horns three absolute no-lube jobs.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Well, the horns just were fortunate K State didn't have a chance for a four point play.  Kind of an ugly defensive game on both sides where bad calls can seem more prevalent than their effect on the game.

What is Barnes telling this team at halftime?

See Hamilton's "effort" on the last jumper.  Played well for 26-27 seconds.  Got soft, didn't stay with his man.  2 points.

They've forgotten what got them here.

Hamilton was terrible, and Joseph? Good grief! Add up the guards' shooting, and there is the loss. Thompson got THREE shots the second half.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Joseph couldn't hit water from a boat, but at least his shots were coming within the flow of the offense.  Hamilton and JCB have discarded the offense, for the most part.

it is impossible to have a rational discussion about the team on OB. damn, i hate that site after a loss.

Hamilton looked worn out to me. he got stuffed in the lane numerous times, and he is 6-7 and strong. i think the lack of depth is catching up to them, and the biggest dropoff is defense. if we were still playing the defense that got them to near-#1, we would have won the NU and CU games and would have won 70-58 last night.

my best case scenario at the moment is win in Waco and lose in the semi-final round of the tournament. i do not want tired legs to have to play 3 games in 3 days.

Agreed 100%.  When Balbay looked worn down in the second half I knew they were leg weary.  They have the rest of the week to rest up and get ready for the Bears.  Baylor will be a good test.  If they still look tired on Satrurday then quien sabe.

Hamilton, last 5 games (goes back to OSU):
4-13
3-16
7-14
7-24
5-18

He shot 49% in January, then 36% in February.

Makes sense.

Chip Brown alluded to this today.  He sure hasn't looked right for awhile.  It was pitiful to see him get stuffed under the basket in the second half.

Also explains his defensive struggles.

If the kid is hurt, then I give him credit for trying to play through it.  There's no one backing him up, and he knows it.

These are college-aged, superior athletes.  If they aren't capable of playing ~20-35 minutes at high speed twice a week, then UT needs to revisit their strength and conditioning coach.  If players are injured that is one thing, but thin rotation and high-intensity D causing fatigue shouldn't be an excuse for losing to inferior teams.

I don't think you're taking into account the other 2-3 hours of high-speed work they undertake the other 5 days a week. Or the pretty bruising nature of it.

this is a totally nuts post. Todd Wright is widely acclaimed as the best basketball S&C Coach in the nation. his presence is a major factor in Barnes' recruiting. unless you have sat on the floor at one of these games, you have no idea of how hard they play and how physical it is. ans, as Austro said, when they are not playing, they are practicing at the same pace. fatigue is a factor in every program, and UT has eight players, some of whom do not play major minutes.

Exactly.  The rotation for the two games prior to the KSU game was 7 1/2 deep (Lucas as the 1/2).  Hill and JCB are the only players you can expect to contribute off the bench.

ETA: Upon further reflection, I have been too hard on Barnes and the players.  They had a couple of guys bail that they were counting on, and I don't know how the fatigue could have been avoided.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

It didn't help that Wangmene was AWOL for a few games. Frankly, I'm surprised that Thompson is still going as strong as he is.

But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

this is a totally nuts post.

My comment was general in nature about college athletes and was not directed at the specific UT conditioning coach.  I don't watch every UT game.  The games I've watched they do play hard.  I have respect for how hard college athletes work.  My opinion is still that fatigue shouldn't be an excuse for losing games three of the last four conference games.  If the players needed a day or two off with light shootarounds and film sessions or whatever, that should have been done.

My opinion regarding fatigue may not be relevant to UT basketball given all of you all's more pertinent knowledge.  There are likely injuries (as mentioned above) and other factors.  I was only responding to DC's comment "fatigue being a pretty big factor in the recent swoon... the aggressive defense and thin rotation."  The Horns were winning under those circumstances before.  You guys know better than I do about what has changed since that time.  If the rotation was/is too thin to keep it up, and the normal remedies of rest or pulling back a bit on days off, it's a damn shame because this team was fun to watch and dangerous as hell when it was all clicking.
