now that's what I call an audition

Myers pitched a beautiful game tonight.  I wonder how many scouts were in attendance tonight.
Boom!

So would they potentially get more value by offering him arbitration after the season and letting him walk? Would he be a Type A FA after the season he's had?

No, he's at best a Type B as discussed elsewhere.  At this point, he's likely worth more in trade than in the 1 supplemental first round pick the Astros would receive as a Type B arb offered free agent.

I've seen confusion in a few places about Myers' 2011 option. It's a mutual option for $8mil, with a $2mil buyout. My guess would be that there's almost no chance Myers exercises that option- he can leverage this season into a better, multi-year deal- am I right? So, we can operate under the assumption that it does not make sense for the Astros to keep him if they get a great trade offer, right? Because otherwise he'll leave, and like Jacksonian said, they'll get at best a sandwich pick in the draft, and maybe not even that.

Pinwheel: Myers "untouchable".

Unless he has guaranteed exercising the option, this is insane.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Disagree.  None of us knows if anyone has offered more than a AAAA player in exchange.  A deal only makes sense from the Astros side if the return on a trade for Myers is major league everyday player talent.  You don't deal him just to deal him.

Too, "untouchable" could be nothing more than posturing.

I heard the Cardinals offered Brendan Ryan and Ed Wade's stupid for not taking it.

No, I think the Mets' new Milledge has to be this guy:

from Jon Heyman twitter:
