Everybody keeps talking about these Goodson Honda commercials, but this girl in white with the jheri-curled hair does nothing for me. Is there some other commercial that I'm missing?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy

Yeah, really.   That's not the one everyone is talking about I hope.

That chick is every girl that dropped out of my high school in El Paso.

Michaels with a lead-off double. Let's see if they can turn that into a run.

Berkman triples T8 with none out, Kepp scores.

HOU 2, SD 2

JMike flies out to right, Astros can do nothing with Berkman at 3B and no outs...

Middle 8: HOU 2, SD 2

B9, bases loaded, 1 out. Lyon on the bump, Gwynn Jr. singles up the middle to win 3-2. UGH!

I think "pathetic" is the adjective we're looking for.

That's a good one. As is impotent. Bumbling. Or horseshit.

But, hey - a day off and a homestand against the Pirates coming up.

Speaking of the El Paso area, either of you idiots ever read any Arturo Bolaño? I'm doing some slow, deep breathing before jumping into 2666 and I'd like to know if anyone has made it through. I gather that it's more or less the Latin American version of Finnegan's Wake.

Nope, but sounds like it's worth investigating. My restaurant Spanish isn't going to allow me to read it in anything other than a translated version.

Wouldn't read it if you paid me by the page, but I think it's mildly funny that he chose to rename Juarez as Santa Teresa which is the part of El Paso I grew up in.   I wonder if this guy was a neighbor of mine at some point.

I think you mean, Roberto Bolaño, I've considered reading 2666 (and The Savage Detectives) but now I'm waiting for you to read it and tell me if it's worth the effort.

Your 2010 Houston Astros: we're working on it. We did score two runs today!

Thank you for the correction. I finished the Savage Detectives a while ago and the auto-biographical character in that book was Arturo Belano, hence my confusion. My apologies. I've also read plenty of short stories of his and a little poetry. I like his short stories OK and wish I liked TSD more than I did but I'm hoping that 2666 is as arresting as the random bits I've read from the book I have waiting for me. If I ever get through it I'll let everyone know once I resurface for air.

I sense a Bob Barker situation in that commercial.  Shame on you Mr. Goodson!

It's old news, but the girl that everyone talks about in the Goodson Honda Commercials is Jennifer Crocker.
