Interview with Greg Brown (fmr Astros scout)
« on: August 16, 2010, 03:01:00 pm »
Astros County has an excellent Q&A with Greg Brown. LINK

Greg Brown is currently the head baseball coach at Nova Southeastern University. He was also a scout for the Astros for two seasons, and is the man responsible for scouting - and signing - J.D. Martinez.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Thanks for the link.

I am always curious over the calculations on the proper round for someone like Martinez, assuming Heck agreed with the scout's assessment.  I mean, they did wait til the 20th round, and selected what they likely figured were a few roster fillers or unlikely signs prior to him.  In other words, did they really think more of Goebbert or Berner, or did they just have a certainty that they could wait til 20 for Martinez, or maybe Heck wasn't really sold, but dove in at 20 just in case.
