I'm anxious to see how Gaston does against this level of competition.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Also in his blog today, Levine comments on Bus Riders playing for the Peoria Saguaros, as well as a couple of their teammates from other clubs.  LINK

Did anyone see Chia-Jen Lo pitch? He had some pretty good numbers.

Vallejo's on the taxi squad.

BA has an updated list of AZ fall league participants.  Vallejo is left of the new list, as is Duran. LINK

Peoria Saguaros start the season 0-2 in AZ fall league action. Astros pitchers fairing well, position players not so much (yet).

Game 1 vs. Scottsdale (lost 4-6,BOX)

Gaston batted leadoff with Castro hitting 6th. Gaston went 0-3 with 2Ks, 2 BB, 1 SB, 1 run and 2 LOB. Castro went 1-3 with 1 BB, 1 HBP and 2 LOB. Got to 2B in T6 but was doubled off on a fly ball to LF.  Gunned down a runner attempting to steal 2B in B1.

Chia-Jen Lo came in with none out and the bases loaded in the B4 and got 3 straight outs (1-3 groundout, liner to 2B and a 4-3 groundout), allowing only 1 to score (on the 1-3). Followed that up in the B5 with a strikeout of Posey, 6-3 groundout, HBP followed by another strikeout.  Lo's line for the eve: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR.

Game 2 vs. Scottsdale (lost 3-1 in 10 innings, BOX)

Castro sat and Gaston batted 7th, going 0-4 with 3 SO.  Englebrook pitched T7: popup to 1B in fould territory followed by 2 strikeouts.

Gaston's joined the ranks of AFL players on Twitter.  Not much so far, but he may give some nuggets along the way in 140 characters or less.

Chia-Jen Lo 1 of 3 AFL Players of the Week (week 2).  LINK

Chia-Jen Lo, Peoria Saguaros
A native of Taiwan, Lo, 23, posted three consecutive scoreless two-inning stints in the first two weeks of the Fall League season. The reliever owns a 1-0 record and 2.45 ERA in 7 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts in four appearances.

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound Lo, who attended Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, split 2009 -- his first season of professional baseball in the United States -- between Class A Advanced Lancaster (1-0 with a 1.78 ERA in 12 games) and Double-A Corpus Christi (0-2 with a 2.31 ERA in 30 games).

Castro: 0-4 with 1 RBI on a sac fly. Castro now batting .185 in 27 Abs.

I would imagine Castro is pretty worn out, no?

2006: 159 ABs in 53 games (Stanford) and
2007: 102 ABs in 42 games (Stanford)

as compared to

2008: 279 ABs in 67 games (Stanford); 162 PAs in 39 games (NYPL: Tri-City); 78 ABs in 23 games (Hawaiian Winter League) and
2009: 243 PA in 56 games (CalL: Lancaster); 268 PAs in 63 games (TL: Corpus Christi); 23 ABs in 7 games (World Cup: USA); 27 ABs in 7 games so far (AFL; Saguaros).

Think your assessments a fair one...

Castro going home

"After talking to the staff and spending the week in Arizona, we feel it's time for Jason to rest and focus on the 2010 season," Astros assistant general manager and director of player development Ricky Bennett said in a statement. "Jason has made tremendous progress throughout his first full season of professional baseball.

"From a developmental standpoint, he's done everything we've asked of him every step of the way, both offensively and defensively."

Not Astros related, but top 5 (to 8) A's prospect Grant Desme, who tore up the AFL this year, has retired from baseball to join the priesthood.

Do the A's receive the Catholic Church's first-round pick this year as compensation?

Technically speaking, ALL picks, first or otherwise, belong to the Catholic church.  And have been since before they were born...
