Carpenter would have won if he had gotten a top 3 vote from ESPN's Keith Law instead of Javier Vazquez.

And Wainwright had the most first place votes.  It was a close one.

Yeah, on XM's Power Alley this morning, they were lambasting Keith Law and Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, who apparently voted for Dan Haren.  I don't know what those guys were thinking, but I'm sure they have some charts or graphs or something that explains their contrarian behavior.

I think they both put Lincecum first, and I read that they both would've had to put Carpenter 2nd for him to win. I loathe Keith Law, but it seems the top pitchers weren't that clear-cut, and you can only vote for three pitchers total. So it's not completely outrageous for a Carpenter to get left off one or two ballots- as opposed to the MVP voting of 1999, where Pedro got the most 1st-place votes and would've beaten Ivan Rodriguez had two NY writers not left him completely off their 10-man (I think it's 10) ballot.
