Home Run Derby
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:30:13 am »
Did anyone catch the HR Derby last night?  I skittered around with my DVR.  It was okay...I'm not usually a fan of the HR Derby, but I liked seeing Nelson Cruz, who's been a perpetual minor leaguer, do well.  Berman actually said a few relevant things about St. Louis being the Westernmost outpost of MLB for the first half of the 20th century, and Prince Fielder put on a show.

Pujols got on the mic and said "People call me El Hombre, I don't want to be called El Hombre, because Stan is the Man, and I respect that.  You can call me Winnie the Pooh for all I care."  That was weird.  Then I muted it.  True story.

I had assumed you spent the night watching the collected works of Ryan Reynolds.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Oh now, see... I would totally do that. He's a hottie. Y'all can have Scarlett, I'll take Ryan. Thanks.

That's funny because he's on record saying the Flash is his favorite super hero and he'd love to do a Flash movie.  Still, I think he'd make a good Hal Jordan, and this is a much better scenario than the Jack-Black-as-Green-Lantern rumors that were happening a couple years ago.  Now if they just put in Zack Ward as Guy Gardner, it'd be perfect.

I watched, instead, the 1971 All-Star game played in Detroit where Reggie Jax hit the HR that hit the transformer. There were alot of good memories of those players, almost everyone a perpetual All-Star, not guys having once-in-a-lifetime years (NTTAWWT) and many HOFers.
Don Wilson pitched two innings as a replacement for Dierker. I hadn't seen him pitch in a long time and it was fun to see him. He did well, two scoreless, hitless with one walk and a couple of K's. I thought he had the best FB of the night.

Caught the end of the '76(? game this a.m. Cedeno hitting a 2-run HR and Kenny Forsch throwing a 3up-and-3-down 9th inning. Also, Garner played for the AL and turned a DP very nicely. Best 'stache in the game.

I found it hilarious last night that they could talk about Sosa's massive home runs in the Atlanta HR Derby without the slightest acknowledgment that just maybe everything wasn't entirely above-board.

Ryan Reynolds can do smarmy OK, but otherwise he makes Ben Affleck look like De Niro in his prime. Good thing I'm not a Green Lantern fan.

I threw up a little and almost turned it off after Berman said something about Fielder and Purple Rain.

He was also all over Dead Pool's jock as well. I think the dude just wants to be in some kind of comic related movie.

He was pretty frickin' funny opposite Parker Posey in that one Blade (3, I think?) film. About the only highlight of it, in fact.

I hear he was the only bright spot in that bad Wolverine movie.

Is that Scarlett?

The same Scarlett who once dated the herpes-riddled (allegedly) Derek Jeter?

No thanks (anymore).
