Electric Smokers
« on: August 15, 2009, 02:21:56 pm »
Has anyone used one? What were the results? Uh, this one person I know, was thinking about getting one, as this might be the only option for a brisket lover living in a townhouse--so they wont continue to violate HOA by-laws and City of Austin fire codes. To be used in a well vented open roof atrium back porch area.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

I've heard nothing but good reviews from people who use the bradley model. Amazon has an unbelievable deal on them right now.

This one looks pretty cool, but a bit expensive.  The bradley requires you to use their proprietary wood chips, which would be a non-starter for me

I have used both electric and gas (brinkman) with success.  You can place the wood directly on the burner for the smoke in period.

What's wrong with the pucks? They are reasonably priced (someone did a comparison, its not more expensive to run than a conventional smoker)

Only the uncertainty of if/where they'll be available in 3 years, and at what price.  Being able to run up to the store to get what you need is a requirement for my family and our poor record of meal planning.  The comments suggest they are a good product, though.

I'm totally with you on the proprietary nature of the Bradley, it still has it's appeal. If I should go that route, I'll have to stock up one the smoke chips.
