I'm so glad the Astros didn't trade a Build-a-Bear...ahem...Roy Oswalt for him.

I read about that, it took me awhile to understand that the Nats hadn't traded Milledge for an entire triple-A team, but that they had sent him down to play for a triple-A team .

IIRC, his replacement Elijah Dukes is a punk too.  He's just hitting better.

I've followed Dukes' performance the last couple of years, and he really has shown some great talent.  He seems to be getting it together attitude-wise faster than Milledge, but I'm not in the clubhouse.  I wonder whether the Nats' plan is to get them some good numbers to trade them or to actually build them in the organization.

A combination of poor performance and poor attitude.
Are you inferring the poor attitude thing, despite the GM's comments? Or have you heard otherwise elsewhere?

Quote
Rizzo said character issues had nothing to do with the demotion. It was a matter of Milledge improving his game at Syracuse. ...
"He took the demotion like a professional," Rizzo said. "We had a good dialogue about a lot of things. He was unhappy and eager to show me that he belongs in the Major Leagues. Lastings Milledge plays extremely hard. I have very little problems with Lastings' attitude and his work ethic.

Two paragraphs above the mlb.com article from which you quoted, they reported that Milledge had shown up late for a team meeting and several people in the front office wanted Acta to bench him from the opener. They had warned him about a demotion since Opening Day.

Dukes is a shitbag. His biggest problems are as a human being.

He definitely was while in Durham.  I guess I'm thinking more of the on-field attitude.  Purely from an admittedly small sampling of info I've read, Dukes at least put some extra effort forth on the field when it was announced he didn't make the starting three outfielders.  Milledge went into pout mode.  I guess Dukes is happy to have someone like Milledge on the team as a comparator.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Someone smaller than him, and thus less able to defend herself.  That's a given.

He leads the league in most offensive categories...including nose hair.

Of course, he had to deal with all those paternity suits.

(I think those were parking tickets.)

yeah, sounds like Rizzo is trying to be a psychologist. Or a hypnotist. "you have a wonderful attitude, Lastings.... you have a wonderful attitude, Lastings..."
