Stros vs. Phils - Saturday game
« on: March 15, 2009, 08:36:41 pm »
Went to the game yesterday.

Notes:

Palmisano left a lot to be desired in the catch/throw department.  He did not show a quick release, nor a strong arm.

Ortiz was throwing 90-91 on his fastball most of the game.

Norris looked fantastic.  94-95 on the fastball...great slider...good location.

Can see why Phils decided against dealing Carrasco last year at the deadline.  He had no idea where the ball was going to go, but had a live fastball and a wicked curve.

The Reds abused him on the bases last Wednesday.

Terrible. I mean, he's been embarrassed by teams just running wild on him. And he's been given a LOT of playing time, particularly for a guy that I thought had no chance of making the team. On a happier note, Castro's arm and release seem pretty good. I haven't seen too many guys run on him, on Castro, mainly because he's not seen very many innings that I've seen.

Palmisano has thrown out 0 of 9 runners in 34 innings
Castro threw out 1 of 2 in 13.1 innings

Between Palmisano's performance and the paltry hitting from Q (who I think is still at the Blutarski line for the spring) and Towles, possibly reenergized the interest in Pudge.

The interest by whom?

I can't imagine that the team is making any sort of evaluation of Quintero based on his hitting this spring.

I agree. However, I think that the club has always questioned Q's ability to hit MLB pitching consistently. I'm glad that we got Pudge. that's one less almost automatic out in the lineup.

I doubt that they question his hitting at all. I think they know perfectly well that he can't hit.

What does this portend for yesterday's golden boy Towles?

Another year in Round Rock.

Another year in Round Rock.

Which is what he needs in my opinion.  Take what you know is probably going to be a year...focus, work hard and see what happens.  At the end of the year he'll be a factor or he won't.  If he isn't, then Castro will be knocking on the door.
