Happy Sunday mornin' folks.

Five different players have worn an Astro uniform as well as a USA Olympic uniform. Who are they?

Joe  Slusarski is another, he played on the '88 team with Servais.  Dave  Silvestri also played on that team, and though he was drafted by the Astros, he never played for them.

Oops, almost forgot Adam Everett. 

So that's Everett and Oswalt from the 2000 team, Slusarski and Servais from the '88 team.  Give me a second, and I'll think of the fifth.

While wondering what I could challange you guys with this morning I thought about the Olympic/Astros connectiion.  Obviously I challanged myself.  Looking up a list of Olympic players I totally didn't see either Slu or Servais.  They simply were not on the list.  So, I'm throwing my question out.  My bad.  You can guess the ones on my list but there may be more I overlooked.  Sorry.

Slu and Servais played on the '88 team.  I know that team well because the second baseman on that team was a guy named Tyrone Griffin, who I grew up with and played with in high school.  He was the best athlete I've ever personally known.  Griffin is also the one who hit the 2-out HR in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Cuban national team in the 1987 Pan-Am games, the first time the US had beaten the mighty Cubans in many, many years.

I remember hearing a lot about Ty Griffin back then. I think I had the whole Topps set of the '88 Olympians. What happened with him? Did he make the majors? Some kind of injury problem?

He never made the Majors.  No injury that I know of, he just never hit all that well in pro ball.  But he was a tremendous high school and college player, a two-time All American at Georgia Tech.  Last I heard he was an investment banker or something in Tampa.

For Christmas that year, a family friend in Peoria got me an autographed 8x10 glossy of Ty Griffin. I imagine it's still somewhere at my mom's house.
