Musings
« on: October 08, 2008, 03:23:26 pm »
This was a strange year in baseball.  At least it seems that way to me.  The Astros once again put on a push and almost made it but ike and bud dog combined for a tag team that kept them down and out in Wrigley field 2. Its odd tho with lee out and some of our aces *lance berkman* not at the top of his game how the bench players and no names came in and took up the slack.

I wonder what all the ghosts at yankee stadium are doing about now. With the demise of the grand old lady the spirits of the great ones who played in the hallowed halls have to be upset with the thought that money was one determining factor for the move. showed this year in the yankees multi million dollar payroll fiasco.  Maybe they will be cursed and haunted for years now.

Shea going is a thing of mercy. That is once place that should have been put out of its misery a long time ago. Enough said.

The scrubbies going home once again is no major surprise. You would think by now they would know that the curse is still upon them. I shed no tears except those that come with uncontrollable laughter.

The rays might finally make it. Would leave a smaller list of those who have not made it to the world series.   I have no real opinion on who i want to be there as long as it is not lidge.

I was so stunned at the lack of Fredia-ism mistakes that I almost missed that. Yeah, what about Lidge?

nothing personal against lidge. its just still after all this time they still dig up the cardinal home run and how it affected his tenure with the astros.

I fear for his sanity if he should get taken deep by Longoria.

I would love to continue to see Lidge succeed, and in the process, win a WS.  I wasn't thrilled to read the few negative comments he made about the Astros earlier in the year, but he's entitled to his opinion.  Just because they were negative, doesn't mean they weren't true.  More importantly, Lidge is a character guy.  Rain or shine, he was always available...always accountable.  Good enough reason for me to root for the guy.

Lidge said "Fuckin' huge!" on live TV.  End of debate.

So some want him out of the WS because of the media bringing up a homer he gave up and some want him in it because he cussed on TV? I guess I am somewhere in the middle of all of that.

From a blog

PopTop01-18-2006, 07:12 AM
Brad Lidge accidentally dropped the F-bomb last year when the Astros beat the Cubs on the final day of the regular season to earn the wildcard berth. His parents reportedly called him up and expressed their disappointment in his choice of words prompting one of Lidge's teammates to suggest his parents grounded him :laugh Might not be the one you're looking for, but Lidge is indeed guilty.

I thought it was after Chris Burke's homer, but looks like I am wrong.

There is a group of Astros fans that are rooting against Lidge because it magnifies the fallacy of the Astros giving up on him at the end of last year, making Houston look bad.

I am not in that group, however.

I was pulling for him big time last night.

getting back to the casual playoffs talk, Wheeler is getting big props from his teammates and coaches for the 3 1/3 innings he pitched Saturday:

Quote
Jim Hickey was in the same coaching role in 2005 with the Astros, where Wheeler entered in the 13th inning against the Braves in the National League Division Series and lasted through the 15th without a run allowed.

When Wheeler came back into the dugout after Saturday's ninth inning, Hickey knew that Wheeler was going to make his case to stay in the game, that he would be fine.

"How big was it? It was behemothian," Hickey said, taking a vocabulary twist from Maddon. "It couldn't get any bigger. It was gigantic."

"It was awesome," said reliever Grant Balfour, among a select group of Rays to meet with the media yesterday at Fenway Park.

"We weren't sure he was going to keep coming out for all those innings. I was wondering who was warming up, and he kept going back out there again."
