Baseball Tonight minute
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:48:00 am »
Karl Ravech tries to talk about the Astros, but the other three predictably shoo off the Astros, saying they don't think the Astros can catch the Cardinals, Phillies, etc.  You know, the "there's just too many teams ahead of them" take.

There's a lot of teams in front of them now.

Actually, just one.

Vina obviously had neither checked the standings nor listened to Ravech's intro.

More crap from ESPN.

Honestly, who are these fact checkers?  Oh, nevermind.

"Oswalt has plenty of muscle memory; he's been through pennant races before. But what's so impressive about the Astros' second-half surge is that so few of them are experienced in such matters. On the current roster, only four players were around for all three of the Astros' postseason appearances in the new millennium (2004, 2005, 2006): Brad Ausmus, Brandon Backe, Lance Berkman and Oswalt."

There are no fact checkers or editors.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

No, that's right.  Don't you remember in 2006 where the Astros swept the Braves in the NLDS, then beat the Cards in the NLCS and beat the Mets (after they went over to the AL) in the World Series?  And I was unanimously voted World Series MVP?

Oh, wait, they weren't talking about my MVP Baseball 2005 savefile, were they?

You don't hire fact checkers when there are no facts to check.

Well, they would have made it in 2006 if Francisco Fucking Cordero hadn't hung a bottom-of-the-8th, 2-out, 2-strike, bases-loaded pitch that Scott Fucking Spezio whacked into the RF corner for a 3-run triple that improbably gave a 3-2 victory to a Cardinal team that was bumbling and stumbling to the finish (this was their third win in their last 11 games). If Spezio goes down there and MIL holds on for the win, we go into Sunday down by 1/2 game, and Cards and CardFans everywhere are gripping.
