Villarreal is NOT a close game pitcher this year. Coop took a big chance with him in that situation.

Immediately, if not sooner.

Also, is something wrong with Geary? Injury or something?
Quoted from astros.com article:
Cooper will continue to use Wesley Wright, Doug Brocail and Geoff Geary in mostly one-inning spans.

Geary, who pitched 2 1/3 innings in the Astros' 4-3 loss against the Rays on June 21, had to sit seven days before pitching again.

"He pitched well and got out of one inning," Cooper said. "We said, 'Let's keep going,' and we ended up stretching him. I don't like to stretch a guy like that, but he was pitching so well, you kind of say, 'Let's ride it as long as we can.' We were desperate for a win."

Geary got three days' rest after that successive outing before being called to warm up twice on Thursday. Cooper said that if a reliever gets up twice but does not appear in the game, he is done for the day. Geary got Friday off before pitching an inning on Saturday.

Nothing about an injury, there.  But you gotta wonder?

Coop puts Villarreal in a position to fail so often... It makes my brain hurt.

Villarreal should be in the Moehler position in the pen, mop up duty and whatnot...

STOP forcing him in to game situations against bad ass hitters.

No friggin' kidding.  If you're going to keep running the guy out there, give him a chance to pitch less pressure situations and get his confidence and 'stuff' back.  It was working a bit for a while...

I vote Villareal look in the bleeping mirror.

And why does he need to go to mop up duty? Because he gives up homeruns and is ineffective? Is that the qualification for mop up duty?

A quick look at his stats doesn't suggest he has ever pitched multiple innings consistently...

Last 9 games are perhaps the best stretch of interleague play I can remember from the Astros.

Don't look now but the Astros just took 2 of 3 from 2 of the best records in the bigs out of the AL East. Could be the start of something good.

Improbable.
Oye. Vamos, vamos.

You don't have a very long memory.

Whats even more improbably is that one of the two they lost was lost by Oswalt.

Well, it was a very nice effort against 3 very tough AL competitors.  Maybe my memory is lacking, but in any case I'm very pleased!
