It's virtually the same thing as Chilis, Bennigans, Ruby Tuesday's, Chotchkie's and Fridays.  You can get fried popper type things, quasi-fajitas, overpriced burgers and near-bbq.  Also they are all good with the fruity drinks.

Personally, I'd rather gouge my eyes out, but people seem to keep eating there.

Yeah, but it's way better than Flinger's.

It's the only restaurant in Greeneville open past 9:00 besides the Afful House (the W is burned out on the sign).  So the players here eat there alot.  So better than Waffle House but I am sure there are better options in a big city.

I got married at White Sands in New Mexico, and stayed in Alamogordo beforehand.  We had many fruitless attempts at finding a bar in Alamogordo that sold hard liquor, being told time and again to "try Applebee's."  Finally, somebody told us that the reason Applebee's was the only place in town that served liquor was because New Mexico charges a ridiculous annual sum for a hard liquor license, like $300,000.  i don't know how accurate all of that is, but it seemed to make sense to a great extent.

I went to an Applebees in Cedar City, Utah, for many of the reasons listed - available alcohol and serving food after 7:30. I don't remember there being too terribly many other options for sit-down dining in the town, and I looked hard. I had salmon with some sort of shrimp sauce and soggy vegetables. It was terrible.

In Virginia, these sorts of restaurants are popular because only places that make 50% of their revenue from food can get a liquor license.

But they don't serve Shiner at Applebees, they serve some Budweiser knock-off bock: ZiegenBock.  Was disappointed when I would have to work in Ft. Worth and the only place my contractee wanted to eat was Applebees and of course the only beer I could order was said Bock.

It takes a few to make the food taste better too.

do they still make ziegenbock?  that stuff was ubiquitous for a while at any festival or in-store in austin.  they gave it away for free to the audience at austin city limits.  i'm pretty sure it's exactly the same as michelob amber bock, just with texas values.

Couple years ago, I was in some small East Texas town that was in a dry county.  I had not realized until this point that you could not buy any alcohol at all in some parts of Texas.  Blew my mind.  The P.O.S. motel told me the only place you could order alcohol in town was at Applebees, but you had to have some special card in order to be served.  Instead, I chose to make the drive to the county line liquor store.  Beer never tasted so good.

That's also true for Virginia and Maryland.  In Virginia you can buy beer and wine at the grocery store which you can't in Maryland.    A lot of different liquor laws in the US.

Allgedly some guy in Wichita Falls came up with the ZiegenBock brand (or maybe the name) to help his friend the Bud rep overcome their slumping sales to that little brewery from south-central Texas.  That's according to a bud in Wichita Falls.  Some of you may have buds in other towns who tell the same story about someone in their town coming up with the beer.

You'd be surprised how many people like the Z better than Shiner, though most of those are from out of state....poor bastards.

Parts of North Carolina you can by hard liquor but not beer or wine.

angelina county?

when i lived in nacogdoches
all restaurants/bars that sold alcohol
were "private clubs" and you were
required to buy a "membership"
in order to drink in the establishment
(might still be that way)
with the exception of the bar crossroads

i believe lufkin is somewhat "wet" now
don't think they sell the hard stuff in the county, though

aren't certain parts of dallas/ft. worth dry too?
..because chickens are decent people.

I left a lot of brain cells at Crossroads back in the 80s. They used to flaunt the city "membership" law by having you sign a piece of paper taped up at the entrance.

remember - you were signing in
as a guest of the order of the redmen
what was that, anyway?

friday happy hour
five's a crowd
pitchers in the beer garden

would love to get my hands on one of
those old "redmen" books they had at the door
those were great times

They put in the beer garden after I'd already graduated from SFA, but I went there a few times afterward. My best Crossroads memory (well, what I remember of it) was meeting Stevie Ray Vaughn after one of his shows; he used to play there every semester for a $4 cover charge.

Pasadena is not dry.  It hasn't been at least since I moved there in 1982, and I doubt the folks at Gilley's back in the Urban Cowboy days would have had much fun without tossing back a few Lone Stars.

I think that the buying a membership to drink was required on one side of the smaller highway off the Conroe exit on 45.  Not the other side though.  Sucks if you grew up on the wrong side of the tracks.

More hit and miss than that even.  Seems most of Irving and Richardson require some kind of unicard in most places; not sure about the hotels there.  Addison was the oasis for the north part of the county for the longest time.  Most of Dallas is wet, though it seems there are some parts of North Dallas south of 610 and north of NW Highway that run into unicard issues, too.
