Richie Sexson given 6 game suspension
« on: May 09, 2008, 09:23:08 pm »
Ranger pitcher Gabbard threw a fastball high, but over the plate, and Sexson got pissed. Charged the mound and threw his helmet at him.

Story and video here.

The writer says the ball was in the "vicinity" of Sexson's head... I guess in much the same way that most pitches thrown over the plate are in the vicinity of the batter.

Oye. Vamos, vamos.

Hernadez had hit Kinsler a couple of innings before.  Although the pitch was somewhat Backe to Molina'esque, Sexson is no Eddie Gaedel and IMO any pitch in that area was a 'purpose pitch.'  Like was said in the postgame, had they hit Sexson in the ass it wouldn't have been an issue, but it became an issue when it was thrown where it was.  In any event, its been a frustrating season thusfar for the Mariners, and that surely played into it as well..
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Bob Ryan said that it should have been a longer suspension for the helmet throw...something to the effect of, "What, his PURSE wasn't available?"  No fan of Bob's, but that WAS a pretty funny line.

Charging the mound is one thing. But Sexson throwing the helmet was pretty pathetic. 6 games might've been light.

Dude is 6'8" and he charges the mound throwing his hat like a girl.  Pitiful.

Perhaps during the appeal process they'll reach that conclusion and extend it.  Wishful thinking, I presume.

If the ensuing post by Duman is correct, then Wishful must once more be replaced by Inaccurate thinking on my part, I presume.

I heard it was lightened to 5 games.  Apparently the public ridicule for throwing a helmet and charging on a ball over the plate was enough to take the place of one day.
Always ready to go to a game.
