Fall instructional league
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:25:27 am »
Back in 2005,  Spikes n Stars(under its old name) had a list of all the players who had been in the Astros Fall Instructional League.  Any chance of similar information this Fall?

We're working on it.  But that was under the old regime.  We'll see if this group will be as forthcoming.

Baseball America is posting american league teams list. I hope they come out with a National League soon.  The Astros are not publishing that list according to my sources.

The list of Astros instructs people is listed here.  Of note:

Players on the list who played higher than short season ball:
Jack Tilghman (singed during season and assigned to Lex)
Koby Clemens (Salem)
Max Sapp (Lex)
Craig Corrado (Lex)
Chris Jackson (Late promotion to Lex)
Colin Delome (Lex/Salem)

Those I thought might make the list that are missing from SS rosters include:

Jose Altuve, Richardo Bonfonte, Andrea Lucati, Frank Almonte from Greeneville
David Flores, Brian Wabick, Eduin Ciriaco from Tri Cities

But there are only 40 spots.

Almonte is there.  There could be visa issues with some of the foreign guys.

Whoops your right he is.  My biggest surprises were Cartwright over Altuve  and DeLeon over Bonfonte.  Again it could be Visa issues.

First of all, thanks for the link. Once again, you all are way ahead of the curve!  A question.  It looks like only six 2008 draft picks are at the Instructional League.   Does that reflect on what the organization thinks about those six?

Read it again.  It's most of the top 20 plus a few from the later rounds.  Too, Castro and Hicks are in Hawaii.  Nearly all the top 20 that signed are in mlb related fall/winter ball.  Priday, Flores, and Mowdy are the ones not in Instructs or Hawaii.

Jacksonian, I'm sorry I mistyped it's only six 2008 picks who AREN'T at the Fall instructional League.  Was curious if those six were thought less of or had other commitments, injuries or otherwise.  Thanks

Just so everyone knows, it's Priday, Flores, Mowdy, Wolf, Pettus, and Lehr who aren't in instructs or Hawaii.  I haven't heard why.  Injuries and fatigue seem to me to be the more likely culprits than other commitments.
