Birmingham, AL (non-bb)
« on: March 19, 2008, 04:06:33 pm »
I'm headed out to Birmingham tonight with some buddies for the first/second round of the Men's NCAA tourny.  Me and the 3 other guys i'm going with have never been out to Birmingham.  Anyone have any suggestions on Sports bars?  Restaurants in the area?

Any insight is much appreciated

Last time I was there, we went to a little Southern bistro called Zoe's for brunch.  It was a heart attack waiting to happen; I give it a hearty thumbs up.

Not sure about sports bars, but the Five Points area should have some good stuff in that regard.
Drinking for two.

We lived in the Bham area for about 11 years.  I miss the BBQ the most
Must go to Dreamland BBQ in 5 points.  Get the RIBS!!!!  Jim & Nicks is good too for other BBQ

Society Grill - meat and 3 place downtown

Fish Market - downtown - good fresh sea food

Surin West - 5 points area has good Indian food

Bright Star - Bessemer (20 minute drive but worth it!)

My wife is yelling at me to tell you to go to Sol Azteca in Hoover.  Her favorite mexican place when we lived there.

We are headed their this weekend as well but to see family and friends.  Enjoy the games.  There is not too much around the arena but if you head to southside, or Hoover you will find more activity
Always ready to go to a game.

Ate a sausage plate at a BBQ spot today and thought about Dreamland ribs. Once sang "Honey Hush" there with an R&B group on a game day in Tuscaloosa as "Po Boy Paul." LSU kicked their butts that day, but it ended poorly as I ended up in the pokey for public intoxication. Thank goodness I don't do that anymore.

This is hysterical for Houstonians.  Some can't get out their subdivision in 20 minutes.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Well for most of the suburbs south of Bham that is true as well.  But if you are staying in the city center near the BJCC, you just hop on the interstate.  Getting to Hoover from Downtown takes about 20 minutes as well.
