Is Cabrera still a Brave?

Nope, you're the first.  The question I've been wondering about is whether Clemens will consider the media attention sufficient to remain at the camp.  The other issues I've been wrestling with is whether this is a bigger story than the Borkowski signing, Link  The Wednesday deadline for Valverde and Loretta to come to terms or face the possibility that Tal Smith might have to send his arbitration suit to the cleaners, Link or what the Rockies contract with Tulowitzki might mean for Mr Pence Link

they want Rocket DQ to pitch this year.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Look, don't get me wrong, I'll keep cheering for the Astros... but these sure as hell aren't the Good Guys.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Source or speculation?  (Just wondering because I've asked and nothing has come back to me on that one)

This is a joke, right?  I know the rotation is not strong but there's some standards you just don't bellycrawl under...

Speaking of, I wonder if Roy pitches day one and throws long toss on Day 3 (in front of fans to MLB opposition) then back to the mound for Day 6, how would he compare on his Day 3 workout to the high AAA the Astros are projecting at #5?  See, I can make jokes too.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

I thought the same thing when I saw how that situation was being worked...

No, that's correction.  He doesn't want to be a distraction.  He wants to be the very center of attention.

Is the pitching camp outside of the scope of his personal services contract? I ask because it seems odd that it's an invitation, rather than an obligation. Clearly, I have no fucking idea how these things work, and am trying to better myself through peer education.

That contract has not been finalized or signed.  So this really is an invitation from the Astros and not part of any contract.  Don't know how much they're paying him to do this.

Clemens has participated in the camp every year, and it was understood that the Rocket would continue to do so as part of the 10-year personal services contract he signed four years ago. The contract was to go into effect when Clemens officially retired, which he has not done yet.

Clemens has a 10-year personal-services contract agreement with the Astros that is to begin when Clemens officially retires as an active player. His agent, Randy Hendricks, recently notified McLane that Clemens was ready to begin the personal-services contract, but Clemens has not yet retired.

McLane said he supports Clemens and Pettitte, calling them "great Astros." But regarding the personal-services contract, McLane kept it vague.

"We have to remember that these were accusations that were made," McLane said, referring to the Mitchell report. "Some investigation is going to have to be done.

"The 10-year personal-services agreement would not be implemented until [Clemens] decided his career was done. We haven't sat down with [Clemens' agent] Randy [Hendricks] and Roger. They had not made up their mind that his career was finished. A lot needs to be done in the future. We need to see what the next steps are going to be about."

You mean he's not doing it out of a love for the game, comraderie, and to pass along his infinite wisdom?  Color me surprised!

Don't get me wrong, I still think he is an arrogant ass, but I do think Roger likes to help other pitchers improve.

I think it is just another way he strokes his ego, but I do think that is genuine about him.  If you are open to listening to his advice, I think he likes trying to "pass along his pitching wisdom".

The summer Koby was in Greeneville, Roger was gracious with his time with the other players.  I didn't hear anything but praise for him from the players.  His motivation to help the younger players is something only he can answer.

I do think the current situation is going to impact his effectiveness since one of the things the players talked about him preaching was the work ethic to do the level of work to be a MLB pitcher.
Always ready to go to a game.
