Padres nab their second baseman: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071211-1927-fuku.html

Quote
The Padres did find a second baseman, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with Tadahito Iguchi, who batted .304 for the Phillies in 45 games last season after coming over in a trade with the White Sox.

who got Fukudome.

I'm surprised that Iguchi took a 1 year deal reportedly for 4 million.  Wasn't he looking for a multi-year BIG BUCKS deal?

Apparently the Phillies offered him the most money, but he would be playing 3d.  The Rockies were also interesed and the Astros early on.  The Padres get him for far less than the Astros are paying Matsui.

From what I understand, Iguchi couldn't be a Philly until May 15th. 08 unless there was a waiver granted
by MLB and that didn't happen. Very unique contract situation.

Forgot about that, right.  But it seems to me that if the Astros had really rather have had Iguchi, they could have.  It's 72 degrees in Houston in the summer too, just no sun.

It's 72 degrees and sunny, just not at the same time.
