Another Name to add to the wish list?
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:28:43 am »
Ok, I am fully aware that the Astros chances of landing this guy are probably only slightly more likely than them landing Santanna (which is about as close to zero as you get), but what would it take to get Bedard from Balt?

Other than a hole in your head for even talking to this team after the whole Tejada nightmare, what types of players would it take?  Obviously we are talking Pence or Patton probably being a must in this deal, but what else, and would it be worth it?

Would you offer Pence, if you could keep Scott, plus others to get Bedard?  You would think the Astros would have some ML ready pitchers to throw in the deal as adding Bedard would give you Oswalt, Bedard and Woody as likely 3 of your starters and Backe's trade value isn't probably enough to get him included but Wandy or Patton or even Albers would.  Seems like they could include 2 of those 3 (obviously prefering to keep Patton around).

Just trying to see how much people think they would have to give up to even be in the picture of landing him, and if that would really be worth it, in the long run.

Nothing is worth dealing with the O's.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

agreed. The second we start negotiating with the O's, Roy O. will suddenly become the topic of countless 3-team trades.

Is he in the appendices?  Because I don't remember him appearing in the main parts of Tolkein's trilogy.

Thus my requirement of a hole in the head.  I agree dealing with THAT owner is almost on the same level as dealing with Boras (although a different kind of head-ache).

This is purely hypothetical, assuming the owner could somehow keep his mits out of the deal, what do you think it would take?  If the roles were reversed and you were a fan of Balt, who would you want them to get?

I think in the end, any deal that could land him is out of the Astros reach, either in terms of cost being too high, or the Astros not having enough, but just curious since the rumor of his availability has been made known.

I'm languishing here in Baltimore, so I get to see this train wreck up close. The O's have holes to fill and will want a lot for Bedard.

The O's have problems everywhere except 2B (Brian Roberts), RF (Nick Markakis),  starting pitching, and maybe C. They would be looking to fill those gaps if they traded Bedard, so I'd suspect they'd want Pence, Everett, Patton, and maybe one other minor leaguer.
