The Royals appear to be closing in on a choice for their new manager  ...

Sources close to the process indicate a decision could be announced early next week,... (and) the club is looking at someone currently managing in Japan.

If so, that positions Trey Hillman, a former Yankees minor-league manager, and Terry Collins, who managed the Astros and Angels, as top candidates. Ex-Mets manager Bobby Valentine is also managing in Japan but appears an unlikely fit for the Royals.

Hillman was considered by most to have been the front-runner for the Rangers' job opening last off-season, before Hicks and Daniels decided on Ron Washington instead.
