Jeff Baker

According to rotoworld (via the Rocky Mtn News), the Rockies offered Jeff Baker to the DRays for Wheeler near the deadline.  I would guess that they made the same offer to Houston.  The site compares Baker to Wiggy as being the same guy, but Baker is cheaper.

It's interesting that both Houston and the DRays passed on this offer from the Rox.  Surely if TB or HOU saw Baker as the same as Wiggy, they would have taken the deal.  Baker is under control for at least 5 yrs and at a much cheaper rate.  We'll have to see how Baker performs over the next two years, but there are likely 2 clubs who don't think he's as good as Wiggington or Wheeler for that matter.
The test of a true champion is how he reacts to adversity on days when it is bound to come.

Logically, that is true for Houston, but not for Tampa Bay.

**Algebra Warning**

Assigning variables to the players, Wheeler is x, Wiggy is y and Baker is y + 1 since he is y but cheaper.

So yes, if the assertion is true, Houston would have taken a y + 1 deal over a y deal since we know they think y by itself is > x.
But TB obviously thinks x > y, which is why they traded for x.  Whether x > (y + 1) or not is an answer we don't know.

Maybe, just maybe, they asked Wheeler for his preference or input on the situation seeing how Tampa is home.  Kind of like Ensberg to SD (home).  Class organization as stated before.  But then again, maybe not.

No.  What the Astros did was go for the player with the longer and better major league track record.

That was my thought, considering Ensberg was being replaced.  Purpura is probably done taking chances at third for a while.
