Buccos outscore Astros 8-6 in the series
« on: July 22, 2007, 02:47:17 pm »
yet the Astros win 2 of 3.  Man that (winning the series despite being outscored) has been rare for the 2007 Astros, especially on the road.

Good to see.

Great job by Lidge in the ninth!

Those sliders were unhittable.

Great job by Woody.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Yep, the TV showed him in the dugout with it wrapped.  He was chit chatting with Carlos Lee, not looking like he was in pain.

So basically he got the stinger akin to the one I get when I try to hit a 1 iron....it hurts, but you're back in no time?  In my case knocking a stroke off your double bogey riddled back nine?

You can hit a 1 iron?  With positive results?  You're my hero.

If that's how you took it, then that was (once more) poor writing on my part.  All that happens after I hit a 1 iron is painful, whether you include the physcial (hands, wrists and forearms) or the visual (ugly to watch).

I think it was Arnold Palmer who once said that the only club he'd play with in a thunderstorm was a one iron because even God can't hit a one iron.

Back to the original post, I see that in May, the Astros took 2 of 3 from the Reds despite being outscored 17-12.  They followed that up by taking 3 of 4 in Cincy despite being outscored 21 to 20.   Then they beat the Phillies 2 of 3 in July despite being outscored 17 to 15.

So, they've had 4 series wins while being outscored and while only 8 series wins when outscoring their opponents.

Jack Nicklaus could, though.

I believe it was Lee Trevino.  He actually did get struck by lightning once.

My 1 iron is under my bed as a weapon if someone breaks in.  I've reconsidered even using it as that.

that is part of the beauty of baseball. you can read the stats and it look like the other team should have come out ahead all the way.. but then astros took the series..

Trying to hit a 1-iron is probably what caused the back nine to be "double bogey riddled".

Would that it were only a 1 iron issue....truth be told, I haven't had that club in the bag for years.

I'm rated a a 12 who's indexed to whatever mood I'm in that day.

i heard it as: "...an exercise in which one attempts to place a small white ball into a slightly larger hole with utensils particularly unsuited for the task."  Anyway, it was on a sign at the old, now defunct Olmos Basin driving range in San Antonio.  I used to contemplate its meaning after another frustrating session of beating out of round range balls.

I can't hit balls on the range, unless I'm under the control of an instructor.  Unfettered and undirected, I always end up swinging harder and harder until I am no longer able to hit a lick.  Then I get really mad and take this fabulous attitude onto the first tee with me.

If I use a range at all, I'll hit less than 10 shots.  Time spent on the putting green is far more valuable than any time spent on the range.  My club has half-sized holes which are fantastic practice.  Work on knocking 4 and 5 footers into the half-sized cup, and when you get on the course the real holes look like caverns.

I totally agree. I am useless if I hit the range before a round. If the people I'm playing with insist on hitting a bucket, I take maybe four or five swings and spend the rest of the time chipping and putting.

I start with putting, hit about ten wedge and 7 iron shots on the range, then I'm off to load up on the cerveza.

The Ron's Pub bunch used to have a weekly game that got us good group discounts, usually at Cypresswood, but it sort of died off.  That might have been the best golf I ever played, though the best ROUND I ever played was at the fabulous Bluebonnet Golf Club in east Austin, my lone sub-80 round.  I affectionately refer to that course as the Goat Hills of Central Texas, though I have never seen Foot the Free there.
