if you dont know why there were questions about wandy to start the season...then here ive got a 15 game winning lefty just for you, named jeriome. and a bridge. the pitcher even comes with an extra i! you'll have to ask alkie if he knows a catcher that he can throw in the deal.

That was fun to watch. Gar talked post game about his confidence improving and he's learned to pitch at "the bottom of the zone".

I've learned a lot from watching Wandy this year. Mainly, I've learned that the Astros are lucky I'm not setting the rotation out of spring training, cause I never saw this coming.

kudos to Wandy for everything he's done to improve himself. He ranks right up there with Pence as a really pleasant surprise this year.

That is 16 consecutive scoreless innings for Wandy. Going into the game tonight, the Mets were the best hitting team against leftys in the league.

Impeccable fastball command tonight. His only walk was when the strike zone vanished in the 9th.

Just remember... all the sports talk radio "fans" whining about how brilliant they are and how dumb the Astros are for not playing Pence out of spring training...these are the same ones who said Garner and Purpura should lose their jobs for their blind devotion to Wandy.

Nor did I. Kudos to Garner, Purpura, and Ausmus for seeing the potential, despite his age and two lackluster seasons. I hope he keeps it going in the second half.

Wow- that is mind boggling how crappy those stats are to go with that record. That has got to be hard to do.

Why the hell did cleveland want him- I thought their GM i supposed to be one of the sharpest in the business and they gave us Scott and Wily T for that?

There seems to have been a composure change with Wandy during the year. About a month ago he really appeared to mature and have better control of himself. I wonder how much his home/away performance split is correlated to him being able to keep focused.

Since you mentioned it, the splits are mind boggling...

Home: 5-2, 1.81 era, 0.92 whip, .202 baa, 12 BB, 51 K in 59.2 IP (9 starts)
Road: 1-5, 6.60 era, 1.53 whip, .292 baa, 14 BB, 39 K in 45 IP (8 starts)

Ervin Santana had similar stats for most of the year this year as well but recently he's starting to do better away from home. Hopefully Wandy can too.

that it wasnt reasonable to expect wandy to pitch like he has at the beginning of the season? he's been a great surprise in the rotation so far this year.

the original post acted as if there was no reason for the trepidation of wandy being named as the number 4 to start the year. there was plenty of reason for it, and i was simply pointing out that he was the exact same pitcher that jeriome robertson was.

no trepidation here that he was in the starting rotation when the season started. of course, he would be. i had no idea that he would pitch this well, but i did not doubt he would be a starter.

My problem with Wandy over the last two seasons he'd seem to pitch okay sometimes, then implode VERY early. First time I saw him pitch (in fact, I believe it was his ML debut) was that horrible Mother's Day game a while back when he allowed 8 runs almost immediately. I think the kid's got a ton of potential, and that game last night was some mighty fine pitching from him. He just needs to keep developing and quit licking donkey balls in the 4th inning.

try to get word to Garner what your problem is with him. that should fix it.

I admit to having had serious doubts about Wandy's ability to pitch fine enough for his stuff to get through an order multiple times. Garner hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that Wandy is keeping the ball down. Wandy also is hitting the corners. As also was pointed out, Wandy on the road remains a mixed bag of mostly rotten apples. He's got to get better there. I think that he can.
