For those out on the (far) NW side (nonBB)
« on: July 09, 2007, 11:32:03 am »
There's a drive-in theater about half-way between 290 and Tomball, on 2920, which is great fun. Went there this past Saturday with my better half, and we took in Die Hard and 1408 for $10 total. They broadcast the show over a very short-range FM channel, so the sound is as good as the radio you use. For those with wimpy car batteries, they will give you a jump, if it dies during the movie. Also, while there is a concession stand there, feel free to roll up with a portable buffet in your vehicle, if you like. Pets seem to be welcome, as well.

I really enjoyed the experience -- one I haven't taken part in, since whenever Close Encounters came out.

I drove by that very drive-in theater on my way home from the outskirts of Houston on 45. I cut over on 2920 to 290, and thought "Hey, thats cool. A Drive-in. Haven't seen one of those in a while."

Making the Dallas-Houston trek a few times this summer, I noticed there's a drive-in about 30 miles outside of Dallas as well.

Unfortunately, it's right next to an active landfill, so I'm not sure how pleasant an experience that could be...

A drive in movie theater just (re)opened up off of 59 and 1314 in Porter.  They're currently playing Harry Potter, Evan Almighty and Spiderman 3.  So, if you kill the car, do you sweat off 5 pounds watching the film?

I thought about bringing the family to see Evan Almighty, but wondered how easy it'd be for everyone to watch a movie piled up in the front seat of the car.
News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

Depends on the weather, of course. I was a little worried about that, but the first movie started at 9pm, and by then it was in the mid-70s. Nice.

Only 2lbs if you stay in the front seat.

There's another one out by Kingwood.  I wonder what is spurring the revival of drive-ins around here?

I can't believe anyone would fight mosquitoes and humidity to watch a movie from the "comfort" of their car, although I guess it's one way to get around screaming babies and teenage cell phone addicts.

I'm not knocking you Holly, I think drive-ins are cool from a nostalgia perspective, but I also think they're gonna have a hard time staying afloat.

I see that place every time I drive to Austin. For some reason I figured it only showed G or PG movies with it being right next to Tomball. The projection wall is probly bigger than iMax from what I recall.

Oh man, that just brought back a childhood memory I hadn't thought about in years.  When leaving the movie theater of my youth, there was a drive-in next door, and once in a while....there would be BOOBIES on the big screen outside.  What an amazing thing for a 10-year-old boy to see.  Giant four-story boobies in the night sky.

Ah, the old Rebel Drive-In on Burleson Road.  I may have gone there once, by mistake, in the trunk of my buddy's Ford LTD.  Actually, in those days (mid 70's) it was easier just to go down to the Barton Springs Pool if you had a hankering for some titty.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That looks like a cool think to take the kids to once or twice just for the experience. It's on the way to my husband's school, so maybe we'll take a detour. Thanks, 'cause I had no idea that was there.
