I switched to the Iowa-Wisconsin game to give the good guys a chance. Of course, as soon as I did that, some Iowa dimwit stepped on the football while blocking for a punt that nobody wanted to field, gifting the ball to Wisconsin at the Iowa 10 or so.

This weird argument feels like the 'well you can't put Giles in a non-save situation' position.

My wife pointed out this morning that we're going to be in a situation where Giles could come back to haunt us.

Luhnow's going to have to decide if this is just one of those years where the bullpen is weird, or if the pen needs a complete overhaul. He's going to have a lot of thinking to do in the offseason.

I completely forgot about the effect (affect? whatever) of frito pie.  After my daughter's HS volleyball match ended I decided I was hungry and I saw that the concession stand had frito pie.  I haven't had frito pie in forever so what the hell give me a frito pie.  I got home just in time for the Astros game, ate my frito pie, and bam, Yuli hits a grand slam.  Now I understand the power of the frito pie.

What's unclear to me is whether you now need to eat frito pie every day, or if we need to find a new frito pie (semi-)virgin every day.

The disturbing aspect of that is that when they score early they tend not to score again. Especially not good with the bullpen's recent behavior.

Should be a double and an error.   I'll check.

I have a higher standard for major league baseball players. I would have scored that as two errors.

That’s not my job.

It probably wasn't even a called play. But when the Texans decided that they wouldn't even put anybody on the same side of the field as one of the gunners, Tennessee gladly accepted the gift. Nice route by the "safety", too.

Why no MCCann for Marisnick?  He’s got to come in the game anyway?

I guess that with the lead AJ wants the Marisnick defense. I figured McCann would hit and come in to catch, and Kemp would go to center. But I guess the 2 RBI changed the plan.

I saw it, but I'm unsure what was so rough that he had to be carted off. He hit the bag hard, but the way he hit it I would have expected a hip problem. Instead, they seemed to be tending to his leg below the knee. I don't really have any idea what the problem is.

The threats have come from the left. I wrote that the left hasn't played the violence game to its ultimate conclusion. Those on the right have a much higher incidence of gun ownership, which is why the left is so hellbent on gun control. Of course, if things deteriorate, the miltary is strongly pro-right and is unlikely to back the left. Simply put, the left can't win the game that it says it wants to play. I don't want a civil war, but, sadly, it's a distinct possibility.

That's a pretty paranoid view.

It seems like Correa takes a fat pitch almost every at bat.

It's not just Correa. Last year, if a pitcher was foolish enough to throw a get-me-over-fastball on the first pitch of the AB, the Astros were quite happy to punish it. They still worked a lot of deep counts, but those started because the pitchers knew they couldn't get a freebie on the first pitch. This year, for whatever reason, most of the guys seem determined to work counts by not swinging at pitches early in the count (Altuve excepted, who is happy to swing at anything, even if it's not close). And pitchers know that, so they're just throwing cookies to start an AB, and most guys start off 0-1. It's infuriating.

He's getting nothing but hittable pitches now.  The problem isn't that they're pitching around him, it's that he can't hit shit right now.

He won't swing, and when he does, he's late, late, late. Hence things like that weak-shit pop-up to 1st last night.

I don't know if Correa is physically healthy or not,  but he sure doesn't take healthy cuts.

He was on 1st last night or the night before and had to dive back to the bag on a pick-off attempt. When he stood up he was grimacing and did some stretching/twisting like he was trying to loosen up his back. And then he took about a 6-foot lead. He wasn't behaving like he felt great.

That sounds awesome

Turned out pretty well. This was the starting point: https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/one-skillet-corn-chilaquiles. I blew off the jalapenos and diced up a couple of Hatch chiles instead. I had a couple of chicken breasts in the fridge, so rather than use a rotisserie chicken, I seasoned them with a salt/pepper/dried citrus rub and sauteed them and then shredded them after they cooled. Pretty straightforward and took about 45 minutes. I put some lime juice in there, too, but I love limes.

It's hard to feel sorry for any team hitting into a DP when you're an Astros fan.

Especially when they drove in a run when the hitter basically got blown up and wound up trickling the ball into no-man's land.

Presley fucked around then had to throw something in the zone, and elected for right down the fucking middle.

This is the thing that infuriates me. The pitchers get ahead, and then they throw "waste" pitches that are so far off the plate that no sighted person would ever swing at them. I understand going for the corners in those situations, but jesus, these pitches are nowhere near the corners. And then all of a sudden you're in a 3-2 count and everything sucks.

Hudek's story was completely incomprehensible.

There's no way that ball that Jake caught is caught 38% of the time. Maybe 10%, but I think even that is high.

How many more injuries do we have to endure?

Jake put his head down and was digging immediately.

When he hit it I thought it was slow enough that he might have a chance, and then I saw Gordon make a good move to the ball and I thought "damn, he won't make it", and then I saw Gordon flub the ball. That was a lot of up and down for four seconds of baseball.

Also, I imagine the Astros have to be dead last in waiver order on the basis of last year's finish, so they don't get to make a claim until everybody else has passed. Maybe if it's an AL player they only have to wait for all other AL teams to pass, but if it's a NL player I think they have to wait for all of the NL teams and all of the other AL teams.

My hope was that they were working a behind-the-scenes deal for Rendon. It would jam up the infield if Correa is actually coming back, but I'll bet Bregman could play LF without any drop-off from the folks we've been trotting out there.

3-1 feels like about 33-1 right now.

This team is dead on it's feet.

I don't think we have to worry about seeing them in the #1 spot on ESPN's power rankings next week.

This chumpster is through six innings on something like 72 pitches. That's roughly three innings' worth of pitches for Astros pitchers recently.

That still doesn’t address the gaping hole in left field.

I was wondering about Alex Gordon, who would definitely let them put a plus defensive outfield out there. But he's hitting much worse than I realized (.233 BA,  .642 OPS), he's 34, and worst, he's getting $18M/yr through 2019. KC might let him go relatively cheaply if you're willing to eat the contract, but it doesn't seem like the production is there anymore. I have a soft spot for him for the way he and the rest of the KC team just kept applying pressure to opposing defenses during their WS years.

I would really like the bus riders to weigh in with their opinion about this trade.

I'm surprised it cost us our #10 prospect (if I've got that right) plus another, given the relative pittance given up by other teams for other relievers. But I don't know anything, so I'd probably be surprised by almost anything.

I'm not sure any of the other guys that you and I would like to see sent down actually have any options left.

He's also hitting .200, so he's got that going for him.

No Altuve, no Correa (is he still alive?), no McCann...at home...be happy with a run every other game.

I didn't realize it until I looked at the dates, but it's been a full month without Correa now. Last game was June 25.
