Pretty sure Hamilton must of crossed a series of red lines for that trade to happen.

Like I said to my dad today, I think they will go as far as the pitchers take them. They've been excellent so far. Let us pray for their continued good health.
This is unfair to Mr. Happy, but what the hell. I remember him grousing about Altuve's lousy defense a couple of seasons ago, but that little guy has turned into a really good defender. His range is a bit limited, but he's getting *really* good on the turn at second base.
Bottom of the order fireworks. Very encouraging. A nice AB by Carter also.
Blum said something last night about using superglue. Didn't sound right to me but I heard it.
The hardest thing for me is watching him quickly get ahead and then piss his advantage away with crap pitches.
If you didn't know, the Giants are the defending WS champs.
Hell, half of California is moving here.
McHugh beat Keuchel this week. Keuchal gave up 6 earned runs.
I'm dubious.
Who is Marmot?
I love that the Angels have that Pujols contract.
Well if you have to do dumbass things at a ballgame, that's less of a dumbass thing.
Ashby and Blum talking about how beards contain more fecal matter than a cell phone
Shit, you're right. I guess what I'm saying is fuck Kevin Brown.
What kind of person thinks putting a scrotum on his or her truck is anything but asinine? The fuck kind of statement is that? Are they thinking that something is missing in their life or on their truck and the scrotum completes it? I totally don't get it.
I didn't read the article, but the guys on MLB radio yesterday were throwing out Appel as a starter in a Hamels deal.
At any rate, I'd also give the FO some slack, as the most of the recent deals have arguably made sense.
I went to The Original here in Ft. Worth last night and had the Roosevelt since it is there signature dish. The queso was ok as was the rest of the dish. It really was no better than Guapos in DC which was surprising since I was told ad nauseum that the Original was the quintessential TexMex place here in DFW. I should have just had my old staple chile relleno since they are pretty hard to screw up.
Whatever we do we don't need to piss off the baseball Gods. Headed to KFC for the ritual chicken.
Now up 7 games on the division.
Not to mention they are 1.5 games up on the Tigers with the best record in baseball
Someone tell me why Villar is at 3B?
That was ugly.
No win for Hernandez.
I can't remember a ball hit farther in this park. Cruz is liable to hit 60 home runs.
Holy shit MLB,tv is at least three minutes behind.
Where is everybody? Bottom of the 7th, Astros lead 3 - 1.
Surprising the father was a great success. We're in 120, excellent vantage of line drive homers to left. Much joy, much tall expensive Shiner.
Castro has been awful tonight.
Just looked to see how bad Carter's performance has been, and see that Gattis has been as bad. My eyes are surprised as Gattis' ABs seem a lot better. I must be predisposed to Carter fatigue.
Would the Astros consider taking 2 college starters with the two first round picks? If the Astros are as close to being a playoff contender as they seem, does it make sense to draft people that could make a quick impact?
Are things a bit unstable? I keep getting logged off.
Should I take that personally?
The new color scheme is great.
No worries. We gotta figure out a better system for long innings where a lot of things happen.
there is this thing called the score. what is it?
He looks like an extra from the movie Urban Cowboy and that maybe he drives a 75 Ford Torino.
I'm surprised Conger didn't get the start.
According to Drellich, the Astros have never swept the A's.
They are due.
At the O.Co. This place is a dump. Actually, that's too soft if a description. But holy fucking shit does the food blow away MMPUS. They're not even in the same universe. There's real, dare I say it...cuisine here. Everywhere. Sierra Nevadas are 12 bucks though. A small one.
ETA: plus, you can bring your own food and drink in. Which is nice.
Jesus, why pinch run for Gattis with Marwin and two outs? He's almost as slow as Gattis and it reduces your options for later.
Just a couple of post-game points of order for those scoring at home:
1. A runner advances either on a steal or a wild pitch/passed ball, but not both. If he was running on the pitch, he gets credit for a stolen base and the pitcher is not charged with a wild pitch. If the runner wasn't moving on the pitch, no stolen base and pitcher is charged with a wild pitch or the catcher charged with a passed ball.
2. A batter only gets credit for a sacrifice fly if it scores a run. A runner simply advancing to 2b or 3b is not a sac, it's simply a fly out, and the batter is charged an at bat.
Keep up the good GZ work!
Two wild pitches tonight by McHugh. For anyone actually watching the game: is he having control issues, or is it on Castro?
How fast could Preston Tucker learn to play 1b?
I went to Anejo last week (the new joint in Arturo's old space); queso there is $16.50. It's served all fancy on a board with the DIY pico on the side but, for that much money, I should be able to swim in the bowl. Oh, and it's just fucking cheese so how does it cost so much?'
I'm 6-6 overall, and I don't get any of this. What's the strategy, and how is it employed?
Aybar grounded into a 5U fielder's choice.
Did OWA have a magic 8-ball at one time?
No. I have asked 4 times now. Why is a guy with a career .229 average, who has never hit even .250 or more than 12 homers batting 3rd?
That was a rather nice play by Mr. Carter there at 1B.
It's OD, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was trying to draw the cut to score the run.
This Kluber guy is pretty good.
So sad Oscar Taveras ain't in the outfield for the Cards.
How much are the Cubs paying Lester? All that and he can hold a runner?
How much are the Cubs paying Lester? All that and he can hold a runner?
Starlin Castro hitting cleanup? Stop it, my ribs are hurting me...
Has anyone figured out how to pay the discounted price? I saw that they sent out an email for the payment page which shows the $79 fee.
Hell yes.
I always agree with him except that one time he thought I was totally fucked in the head for arguing that bicameralism was just a modern spin on the Jungian concept personal unconscious and collective unconscious, which was based on the duality of ying and yang.
The Vogelsong story? I don't really give a shit about that guy and I'm assuming something showed up in his physical.
Aiken had TJS yesterday. Broke the news himself.
Did you (or anyone) get a chance to see Gattis in LF?
Villar was apparently making some great plays in center today. With that versatility he might have the inside track.
RP: Qualls, Neshek, Gregerson, Sipp, Fields, Hoyt, Hernandez (7)
You're team 5 right? Castro's hitting .296/.367/.630 this spring. I don't see why he can't maintain that....
Is Singleton swinging and missing or is he Ensberging of what?
I'm new to being subjected to the Ashby blathering. Does he ever shut up?
I still don't quite understand that signing. I was happy with an outfield of Springer, Marisnick, and some combo of Grossman/Gattis/Presley/Hoes.
Did Deduno start?
I guess I glossed over the keeper league detail... was wondering why so many prospects went in the mid rounds. Kind of kicking myself now for not jumping on that trend earlier. I get the feeling my team is going to be a late 00s Astros squad... just enough veterans to not finish last, but no real hope for the future.
Do any of you pitching gurus out there have a theory on this? Is it just dumb luck? Certainly over this period of time there have been many pitching coaches with different philosophies come and go in each organization.
can't see Presley making the team and villar is a long shot. But where did you hear Gonzalez and Dominguez are locks?
WTF??
Great to here Capps again, stopped listening to the Express games. THAT is an PBP voice.
What's the over/under on Astros selected by the time the draft ends?
25?
So far, Deduno is getting it done.
Sounds like another brutal day at the plate for Santana.
Thanks for the pbp.
Who was pitching for the Good Guys?
Well, it had to happen,, and so it did. Someone took A-Roid, who's having a good spring so far.
Mr. Singleton's 429/556/827 slash line in his first 9 appearances has made things interesting.
I liked Silver Linings Playbook, which was definitely a sports movie.
Hard to justify that trade still but Bourn's best years were in Houston. Oberholtzers' best may still be ahead of him.
Can't we pretend (or not) that it was Oberholtzer? Who was the 3rd pitcher? I still hate that trade and have tried to block it out of my mind.
3. Holy hell, Evan Gattis just became the first pick of the third round. Homerism run amok.
I'm curious what level of homerism we'll see.
Will you be posting the draft picks as you go for kibitzing, lauding, and shaming purposes?
#content
Me too. I actually kind of enjoy the AL (ducks).
I remember that game. It was very ugly. There are some good memories there. Hopefully the team will make some more this season. Didn"t Bob Knepper have a similar outing?
Given that I would think they'd tape all the games and edit them down to 30 minutes to play at night to try to drum up a little more casual fan interest without investing a lot of tv time to do it.
The way D goes after the Astros, it wouldn't be suprising if he ends up being completely ineffective and sent to pasture like JDJO
Looks like they've found their 3B, though one defensive metrics don't like. So, two years of Valbuena and five years of Straily for one of Fowler.
Add 1 that you sort of touched on when you said nothing over 3 years -- didn't overpay on a huge contract on an aging pitcher.
Speaking of that...Johnson...Mariner or Diamondback? I'm guessing the latter.
When a team sucks for more than a decade it's foolish to expect a city to continue to support it.
I was hoping for cops inspired by Super Troopers and Police Academy.
Cool. That seems like a very reasonable (relatively speaking) deal. Will be interesting to see how much time he gets at SS vs. 3B this year. Sort of sets up a battle for playing time between Marwin and Matty D.
Sipp and Qualls are FAs after the season, so I could see them possibly being traded at the deadline, if they're clearly out of the race, but I can't see any of the other 3 going anywhere.
Let's see what the Cubs pay Hammell and come back to this. Feldman pitched pretty well this year, so I think the Astros got their money's worth.
He also lives in Tampa, and the Yankees ST is in Tampa. Sounds sort of silly, I know, but that was a big deal to him. He said there were things the Yankees offered that the Astros simply couldn't.
But really the Astros are going to have to pay the "shitty organization" tax for the foreseeable future to get anyone worth a damn. Even Feldman was an over-market deal.
