Giving up that grand slam to McCann was the best thing Oberholtzer ever did for the Astros.
That time he beaned A-Rod is a close second.

Once I had two days two get to Montreal from NYC, it was late September and the leaves were starting to turn, so I drove through New Hampshire and Vermont, it was a beautiful drive, spent the night in Lebanon, ferried across Lake Champlain. One thing I surprisingly observed was that them yanks got a lot more emaciated meth/crack/opioid addicted hillbilly types wandering about rural New England than I expected.

Piscotty continues to kill the Astros.  O's get 2 in the first and he gets a solo shot in the bottom of the frame (Bundy's given up 38 HRs this year, tops in MLB). 2-1 after 2.5

Bundy's got great stuff and has looked good outside of 2 hangers (the other was a rulebook 2B to dead CF).  I wonder what his problems have been?

eta:  4-1 O's now after 4.  Raining in Balmer, not hard enough to stop it yet.
It's Baltimore.

I have a Buck Owens guitar in my collection, by the way.
Cool, I'm jealous... The Gibson or Harmony version?

In 1966 Buck and The Buckaroos had their instruments painted red, white and blue, an extension of Bucks innate patriotism. When these instruments were seen on Hee Haw, guitar manufacturers began making offers to him to market a guitar in those colors. Though Buck used a red, white and blue acoustic guitar built for him by Semie Moseley of Mosrite Guitars, his business sense told him an expensive model of that type wouldnt sell to the uninformed public.

He finally licensed Chicago Musical Instruments (Owners of Gibson guitars) to market a $99 acoustic model, and received a $2.50 royalty on each sold. He knew that Sears would market them but had no idea they would sell as well as they did until the first royalty check came.

"The very first statement, they sent me $15,000 he laughs. "I said, Oh, you mean THAT Sears!"

Harmony Sovereign had made a reissue of this guitar called the American Pride which sold in 2005. It was a limited edition guitar and are starting to become a collectible because of the short production run. The colors of this guitar are a little different from the original Buck Owens. Red is deeper and not as bright and the blue is deeper as well. More like a navy blue than a royal blue.

Later was HO (Homestead) 58864

I watched Hee Haw, but his reference was lost on me.
I think it was the phone number to Junior Samples' used car dealership.

No, Might regret it but no.

Picking No. 10 overall, they were clearly unprepared. Mayonnaise, middle of the road, mediocre, All words that describe this draft. We have to trust Corpse Killers will make trades and player adds if they are to reach the playoffs."

That's me. I usually have to "reconnect" between innings to make up for time lost buffering, otherwise I end up 2 or 3 minutes behind by the 5th inning.

I want to hear SD’s Green Chile salsa recipe. What did you add to make it spicy?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I started with 3 large whole hot Hatch chiles, boiled them with a couple of garlic cloves, then blended in a cup of water with a pinch of salt and a pinch of cumin. It was too thin and too spicy, so I finely chopped up two tomatillos and a mild Hatch chile and added to the mix and let it simmer for 20 minutes. The tomatillos add a desired mild tang. I've already wiped it out. Gonna have to make more.

Unless it's a long term thing that gets worse the more you see it.
Some kind of cumulative physiological effect seems counter intuitive to me. It would have to be psychological. A hitter is not focusing on an object 400 feet away. So if the batter's eye is a problem it has to do with the background color. I'm pretty sure blue or green are better background colors than red or yellow as far as the ability to pick up a white ball against colored background.

Or it actually is different/irritating, and having to look at it for half the games sucks.
All I'm saying is the other teams sees it for half the game too and it's no excuse for losing.

Can anyone provide a primer on this issue?
If they can outscore teams on the road most of the time, they should be able to outscore teams at home most of the time. The opposition has to look at it too. I say it's a bullshit excuse to blame it on losing at home. They're just in a prolonged slump and are plagued by injuries. They still have the same record as last year give or take a game.

Breakfast was at Horseman's Haven and the green chili burrito was outstanding. The green chili sauce is great. It burns but doesn't hurt. And the best flavored green chili sauce I've ever had.

Now I'm here on my own for the next two days. I took the dogs on a drive up to Abiquiu and hiked a bit earlier. So maybe I'll try the Lottaburger this evening. Any non-touristy-unless-beer-is-involved suggestions for Monday and Tuesday are most welcome, also something in Taos Wednesday.

I was going to respond to this but just asked myself why. The moral high ground is too steep for me to climb. I know what redemption is and believe in second chances. Those who are remorseful and contrite and who sincerely seek forgiveness and an opportunity will earn their second chance every day of their lives.

I am trying hard not to comment on the smug moral superiority and rush to judgment I see. He apparently did a bad thing and has been punished. None of us knows what happened. He, like my daughter, deserves a chance to atone and to be forgiven. He, like my daughter, deserves the opportunity to become the kind of person he should be. Perhaps the Houston Astros will help him in his endeavor. If he, like my daughter, has not truly changed, he will lose his job and be punished again.

I, for one, am going to wait, watch, and hope his remorse and contrition are real. I will hope fervently his changes, like my daughter’s, are permanent. If they are, he has my unqualified support.

My attitude no doubt is greatly influenced by personal experience. If you ever live through a similar experience, God forbid, perhaps you will better understand.

I basically agree but I think from what you've divulged about your daughter, what Osuna has been accused of is far and away worse.  Purposely physically hurting someone weaker is so much more of a character flaw than someone who has  become addicted. But if he is contrite, taking steps to better himself, and ready grow, then I am all for giving him an opportunity for redemption.

2270
So maybe, Godfather-like, Trump's Russian benefactors asked him to do a simple thing for them: run for President and generally run interference on western democracies.  I'm sure there was no intention or expectation to win, which is why the tracks were so poorly covered, but win he did.
The best laid schemes of mice and men
Go often askew.
And leave us nothing but grief and pain,

I don't like or condone what he did at all but as far as I'm concerned, due process, punishment and whatever happens from now forward is what matters. If the Astros are willing to take the risk then I have no problem with it.

What crosses my mind, besides the fact that Navin can be a dumbshit jerk at times, is if I must deal with authority, I want a balance of power. I understand the little issues and the big picture. I believe everyone deserves a certain amount of privacy and the right to be left alone, regardless of sex, race, religion. I want to help out those who can't help themselves. And I also want my investment portfolio to grow. I'll pay my taxes and be a good civilian, son, brother, and neighbor, but as long as it causes no harm, leave me the fuck alone when it comes to my pursuit of happiness. I vote but locally it's on issues, nationally now it's usually green or libertarian. I love everyone. I don't get pissed off much anymore. Not because things don't piss me off, but I don't dwell much on things that piss me off. I avoid ugly, seek beauty. Yeah, that's who I am.  So don't mistake my lack of enthusiasm for the Democratic Party as being some kind of Republican apologist, I prefer to be thought of as an ass than an elephant. I don't live your dogma.

I think by stating "putting aside whether it's a hit or an out," he means is the outcome of a fly ball in play, on average, is greater than the outcome of a ground ball in play.

I doubt it was audible with a commentary track on, but Reddick or someone (off screen, from the dugout probably) could be heard clearly yelling to the umpire (rightly) “It was off the fuckin’ plate!” after he struck out; ump responding accordingly by barking something back.
I heard a bit of it.

I'd venture to say we all have some friends and family that support the policies of this administration. I don't know, maybe some have actually cut off contact and unfriended them. You have gone over the edge.
I live over the edge, man. My issue is with the phrase, "you can start printing World Series tickets now." I guess for sake of keeping the scout's opinion accurate, the ballclub should start printing World Series Tickets now. But that would be as dumb as the opinion.

It is one scout’s opinion. Not lazy. Not cheap. Not sensationalism. His opinion, which is as valuable as yours. Chill.
It is a fine example of journalistic sensationalism--presenting information in a way that is intended to provoke public interest and excitement, at the expense of accuracy. I guess lazy and cheap are subject to individual interpretation.

Well, it was funny to me, and that what's really important.

Look, all I was attempting to convey was that someone, in July, saying, "print the World Series tickets now," is what is  lame. When it's connected to a trade that doesn't seem necessary it becomes ridiculous. Whether It's scouting or reporting, it is lazy cheap sensationalism and all based on bullshit.

Which begs the question, are the one's they give away at the games, one size fits all, or are they sized differently and you tell them what size (11) you need? Also what do they have on them in place of a player's name? The replicas I've seen online are sized and you can choose between Springer, Altuve, or Correa.

The fact that there are two other AL teams on pace for at least that many wins, and that they're named Boston and NY, has quite a bit to do with that, I think.
Also, Machado and Lindor lead Correa and both are having a better season than him. Trout, Bettis, and Judge are all having a better season than Springer.

From a recent Jonathan Mayo Q&A:

"All reports were that he had a healthy offseason and was looking forward to turning a corner in '18. Then, he vanished. There's been no news of a particular injury, but there were things that needed to be addressed based on his '17 season. His stuff backed up, with a dip in velocity, his walk rate spiked and he missed fewer bats. Physically, he got bigger and had trouble repeating his delivery, which of course leads to command issues. So it's possible the Indians simply needed to hit a reset switch with him, hold him back in Arizona and almost start over again."

After the Astros didn't sign him, Aiken went to IMG Academy, sort of a "post-grad" school for athletes.  He tore his UCL in the first inning he pitched, and had to have Tommy John surgery.  The Indians drafted him in 2015, and he's still in their system.  He was at low-A ball last year, but didn't do too well.  As far as I know he's still in the Indians' system, but I don't know for sure.

Yeah, I found all that too. But I couldn't find anything on Aiken playing anywhere in 2018. Nor did I find any info on if he is injured.

I have a major problem with showboating. I rooted for him to STFU and play well when he was an Astro, but I am glad he is gone.
I never liked Gomez before he became an Astro and I liked McCann since that time he got in Gomez's face for dicking it around the bases that one time. I don't like showboating either. However still, when Gomez was an Astro, I guess I got to know him a little better due to the increased exposure and better understood, at least, his perspective on the behavior, Of course I rooted for him to do well while he was here.

2435
I found this article interesting. The Coming Collapse

"The Democratic Party, which helped build our system of inverted totalitarianism, is once again held up by many on the left as the savior. Yet the party steadfastly refuses to address the social inequality that led to the election of Trump and the insurgency by Bernie Sanders. It is deaf, dumb and blind to the very real economic suffering that plagues over half the country. It will not fight to pay workers a living wage. It will not defy the pharmaceutical and insurance industries to provide Medicare for all. It will not curb the voracious appetite of the military that is disemboweling the country and promoting the prosecution of futile and costly foreign wars. It will not restore our lost civil liberties, including the right to privacy, freedom from government surveillance, and due process. It will not get corporate and dark money out of politics. It will not demilitarize our police and reform a prison system that has 25 percent of the world’s prisoners although the United States has only 5 percent of the world’s population. It plays to the margins, especially in election seasons, refusing to address substantive political and social problems and instead focusing on narrow cultural issues like gay rights, abortion and gun control in our peculiar species of anti-politics."

so, she drove him then rode the gravy train?  Maybe she is smart enough to have done it all herself.  Nah, she rode his gravy train.
She obviously is quite intelligent. Bill has said he had wanted to be in public life as an elected official since his high school days.  Not sure how much credit she gets for driving him, more like helping him steer when he swayed off course--as he was wont to do from time to time. She was very shrewd to hitch her wagon to him because it made everything that was to follow possible. I really don't think anyone would know who she was if not for her marriage to Bill. She certainly doesn't get elected to the Senate without having been the First Lady. And doesn't get Secretary of State if not for being a Senator. To paraphrase Jimmie Dale Gilmore, She was the wave, Bill was the water. In my fevered mind, women like Lupe Valdez and Wendy Davis have done far more on their own merit than has Hillary.

2443
And she wasn’t just someone’s fucking wife. What a thing to say.
You are right, in the Clinton's case, I don't think there was much fucking with each other going on anymore. What I meant was, the best thing she ever did was marry Bill. It was mutually beneficial for both, she drove and supported him. It put her on the map. And that she's been riding that gravy train ever since.

Goal! Panama takes the lead 1-0

2446
This thread is overflowing with condescension, fantasy, and purely hyperbolic nonsense that muddies the debate. Truth in any form is at a premium- Mr. Happy is hardly the only, or even the largest, offender.
There is never an honest debate when each opposition party believes their side is absolutely correct and the other side is absolutely wrong. Even when the same result is desired, they argue over methodology. And if you don't totally buy in to one side or the other, you get accused of lacking passion and being apathetic or even cynical.

2447
And another thing, the idea that anyone can make a persuasive counter-argument to Trump loyalists is idiotic.
That is true to for about 75 to 80 percent of Trump voters. They are impenetrable sycophants. The other 20 to 25 percent can be persuaded. I realize it is hard for some to see the difference between someone who chooses out of desire and one who chooses out of frustration. But anyway carry on and we'll see how it plays out.

2448
[not sure if serious gif]
And let me just say that sure, maybe Hillary wasn't the best possible candidate. Sphinx certainly doesn't like her and we all admire his unerring political instincts. But she did win the popular vote by a healthy margin.
If only it were a popularity contest. And let me tell you, I had correctly predicted every presidential election going back to President Johnson over Goldwater. Every damn one. She fucked me. Damn right I don't like her, it's personal.

So, given all of that, if Hillary is literally the worst that the Democrats can do, I'd like to think that there is reason for optimism among sane and decent people going forward.

That's what I'm talking about!

2449
OR...if everyone around you - from cabinet members to campaign members to family members - has had meetings with Russians that were only disclosed under duress...
Exactly like that. One can't help but wonder.

2450
Huh?  You said something about the supporting a maniac. Your words. Supporting a maniac fits “crazy” in my mind. So, coddling those who support a maniac is the sentiment I’m referring to.

Also, coddling those that spout inane falsehoods also fits mt definition of crazy.

Supporting Trump with facts isn’t crazy, I just don’t see much of that.

Okay, gotcha. Thanks. I think he is a maniac, or a madman, if you will, I don't think he is clinically insane. I'm crazy about a lot of things. I'm crazy about a girl, I'm crazy for sushi... I don't think that males me either a maniac, a madman, or insane.

2451
C'mon Hap, you're too smart for that tinfoil hat shit.
Exactly, just because they've had a whole lot of close associates die (far more than anyone else I know of outside of the mafia) under abnormal circumstances, doesn't mean they had anything to do with it. That is just such a reach and I'm not suggesting anything but that there are numbers there. Some on the dark side would say that's just doing business...

2452
I’m so sick of this sentiment: don’t offend the crazy as they’ll just bow up. We all have a responsibility for our actions and our honesty. Those are the rules. Everyone has to play by them, none get breaks.
I don't know what you mean by "don't offend the crazy." Are you suggesting that it is wise not to got to mental hospitals and such and attempt to offend the patients?  If so, I agree.

I'm curious, do you think all people who disagree with you politically are crazy and want to fight if you intellectually challenge them? Or is that just a generalization? I mean I tend to agree with what you are saying regarding responsibility, I think.

I'm just trying to understand better.

2453
And another thing, the more people vilify Trump, the more it galvanizes his supporters. The more you condemn them for supporting a maniac, the more you galvanize his supporters. It's salesmanship 101. If you want to change behavior you must appeal to the promise of a greater reward, you can't sell anything to someone if they think you think their stupid. their natural defense mechanism kicks in and they resist. Better to fool their damn asses with false promises of a brighter future than confront them with reality. Which is kind of what Trump did.

2454
We went very very very very very wrong somewhere.
Yes, and her name was Hilary. I don't understand why or how Donald Trump could be elected if not for the incompetency of the Democratic Party. I know y'all don't like it when I say this kind of stuff but it's true and until liberals and or progressives recognize what it takes (hint: Obama-like Bill Clinton-like and not their goddamn wives) the Democrats will continue to lose. Hilary, as bad as she was, she still almost won. That should be encouraging to the democratic party because almost anyone would be better than Hilary. I hate to think that people have already conceded the next election to Trump. That makes me sick. Surely there is some self accomplished charismatic person that can inspire the way Bill Clinton and Barack Obama did and unite the party and defeat Trump.

I can't remember seeing it in soccer before, at least not with the keeper that far forward. Mexico used to move their keeper up to midfield back in the 90s (forget his name) and sometimes substitute in net so that he could attack full-time late in games, IIRC.

Did you ever play  sandlot baseball with neighborhood kids? That is how I spent my summers.

Of course, I did. Though, we mostly played on a cul-de-sac and with tennis balls or occasionally at Hager Park with real balls when we could get enough people.  Sometimes we played wiffle ball in a backyard.

The Sandlot is not a bad movie, It's a great family movie. I don't think it's on par with Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Eight Men Out, The Rookie, Pride of the Yankees, A League of Their Own, The Natural, Bad News Bears, Bang the Drum Slowly, or several others when it comes to baseball movies.  It flogs the hell out of John Goodman as the Babe.

Been listening to the debut album by Cut Worms -- Hollow Ground. Songwriter Max Clarke channels the Everly Brothers with his light acoustic pop and two part harmonies. It's pretty good, nice and mellow jangly music, not the kind of stuff I listen to if I need to get fired up. It has more of the need to calm down and lighten up feel. Don't Want to Say Goodbye
