He'll pay for that eventually.
Did I mention the uniforms look nice?
That's great. We don't get the post-game stuff on the mlb extra innings package.
You need FS-HOU to see the astros - it may come in the more basic package if you are in the territory, I don't know. I would just get the basic package and see if it works (you can easily add the sports package later).
On the whole, I'm very happy to see the team making these kinds of moves.
Improperly installed dish.
Recommend any particular package?
It would cost an estimated $120 million or more to take it down; tough to justify that kind of money for something that's merely "annoying."
Of Monsters and Men, My Head is an Animal - debut album from this euro band... saw them at SXSW and have been listening to their 2011 EP a lot on a co-woker's recommendation... enjoying it a lot
I almost got whiplash clicking so fast. I'm deathly afraid that one day Mrs. GBB will leave me for Chris Thile.

Sounds like you did exactly what any good friend should do. Nothing but solid on your part, from what I can see.
Are you also drinking a Saint Arnold Oktoberfest and smoking a La Gloria Cubana Retro churchill?
Jane, it looks like my son will be in town, so I'll buy one of the extra tickets. I hope this is a child-friendly affair . . .
Drayton loves me this I know
For the daily tells me so.
Little ones to him do owe
For this fucking minstrel show.
The media seems to think we'd spare everyone a lot of time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves.
I'll try calling MLB first to see if that will help.
Ron does not like beer or beer bars. i am working my ass off to bring him around. somebody's got to do it, and i am more than happy to sacrifice.
I think I'll appear all goggle-eyed and subserviently stupefied by my bosses' genius as I perform more menial tasks in order to continue to pay my bills and not resort to offing myself so Mrs. Brand and the little Brands can be debt-free on the back of my life insurance benefit.
he's a Brave.
You are fucking WINNER, kid. In fact, that’s the only nice thing it says on your resume.
A TV deal that involves broadcasting the worst team in baseball, playing west coast teams no one gives a shit about, at midnight.
I can see the ad dollars rolling in for that!
You don't think they've done that already?
Not me, dude. I've put this on Drayton from the very outset. Because the blame is his.
You cannot watch astros games online if you live in Texas or LA (without resorting to chicanery at least)
We're trying to field a ball club, not staff a plane.
I continue to believe that all involved, including myself, don't consider the Fuck Drayton part of that incident nearly enough.
Fanfarlo
I had heard the main reason they want all devices powered down pre-takeoff was so that people would pay attention to the safety instructions.
The last time I was in Morristown I had supper at George and Martha's American Grille, this here place: http://tinyurl.com/6tv4vb2. I was in town doing a little bizniss.
The irony, of course, is how much I absolutely hate the clickity-clack of keyboards, most especially a laptop.
Baylor University's Board of Regents announced today that the university has received a leadership gift - the largest capital gift in university history - from Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr. for Baylor's new on-campus football stadium alongside the Brazos River.
Jimmy has big plans, and fancy pants to match.
Is it opening day yet?
Endeavor is amazing.... it's every bit as good as the Divine Reserve 11.
And he shall be Livan.
Reuben is not a troll. he is a regular and is a good poster. he is just experiencing some tough times.
but I was afraid Bud had someone watching this site
Three words...
"Wuv...twooo wuv..."
It's not hard to find, it's just a drop down menu thing. But using MP3 instead of AAC is like demanding 720i when your'e being offered 1080p.
I don't know how. I suspect a lot of fat guys can't even see their balls.
How big a factor will signability be in the decision?
Let Dad teach him to shave like a man. It's not so much a bonding moment(Father/Son bonding moments are beer and cigars), it's about how to look and act like an adult. Number One Son will appreciate the tutelage.
I am seriously worried about you.
Fat guys get a better shave.
The "city centre" area seems like at least a thirty to forty-five minute drive away from the Queen Vic.
Maybe they'll hand out participation trophies like Little League.
Apparently this argument (exactly what is chain of custody, and what is proper chain of custody) is at the heart of this argument:

It's an odd commercial tie-in, but the Converse-sponsored collaboration between Gorillaz, James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem) and Andre 3000 is a lot of fun. Reminds me of an electro remix of Bombs over Baghdad.
That mascot would beat the ever-living shit out of Junction Jack.
Single serve machines are nice, but impractical for 7,000 people.
I've got a friend who got a Keurig and he loves it. Isn't that the thing with these prepackaged pucks of coffee? I wouldn't want to be tied to a single manufacturer and I really want to choose the beans I use.
If you're going to live in a civilized society, there are certain behaviors that should be observed when it comes to the coffee pot.1. When you arrive at the office, and the coffee has not been made, don't bitch and moan. Make the coffee.
2. When you do make coffee, just make it normal, according to the directions. We understand that you may like yours weak, or strong, but don't use 1/4 of the bag for a pot, and don't use 4 bags just because you need a little extra jolt.
3. The decaf pot is for decaf. It's clearly marked. Don't make decaf in the other pots, and don't make regular in the decaf pot. Believe it or not, decaf is a big deal to some people.
4. Finally, when you take the last cup, make a fresh pot. Just because you left four coffee molecules in the pot doesn't mean you didn't empty the pot.
1. Buy a Keurig.
Follow this rule, and the world will be a better place for all of us.
It's hard to describe what a nice shave does for your attitude at 5:00 in the morning, but it's manly feeling, and that's good.
Worst professional sports commissioner ever?
Not that Bud didn't already have that sealed up.
Yeah, they get a supplemental pick at 41 and they kick off the second-round at 59.
I thought the MLB definition of sold out was 70,000,000.
I'm really enjoying the sometimes Alejandro Escovedo collaborator and perpetually underrated, Chuck Prophet's new album - Temple Beautiful - It's a bit of a San Francisco centric album, not quite a concept but more about his roots and influences living in SF 30-35 years ago. Pretty fucking good album, favorite cuts so far, Museum of Broken Harts, Who Shot John, Willie Mays Is Up at Bat, and the title cut.
mine, too.
I like the stat lines for each prospect. It's really handy to have OBP and SLG next to OPS.
The name change gambit was bullshit subterfuge that I personally find insulting. I see it more like someone saying they were going to kick me in the nuts but now they're not. I'm glad they're not kicking me in the nuts, but I still hate them for the threat.
i absolutely, totally hate threads like these.
carry on.
in one of the few moments that my job does not suck
The damn DH is pulling star after star to the American League. I don't think a DH-less National League will ever win more interleague games in a season ever again.
I don't know: I'd vote for "Houston Travelling Horseshit Show".
I am TFLTLIU.
I guess there is some value to quanitifying it, but honestly, should this be news to any MLB organization, or any knowledgable fan for that matter?
Harry Potter doesn't give a shit. Harry Potter takes what he wants. Harry Potter don't care.
Is the east downtown to downtown line the reason that Rusk and Capital are completely torn up?
Anyway, if I wanted to show off something large and garishly British, I'd whip out my cock.
A quick Google search for NFL rules reveals:
The bigger question in my mind is why, when there was plenty of time on the clock, was TJ heaving it for the endzone instead of going for the short 1st down yards and then having options (IIRC, Kubiak called for deep passes on 3rd down before the 4th down INT).
It's like ten thousand spoons...
Get with the program guys. No football discussion is allowed without the appropriate amount of Tebow-worship.
Fun tailgate, but the music choices were horrendous - basically anything off a teenaged girls iPod...and Journey.
- Jeff Bagwell: The best assessment of Bagwell's HOF credentials I've ever read just appeared on this site, from the ever-eloquent Schoenfield. But let me add: What we have here is a guy who has vehemently denied he used any illegal PED, and who didn't appear in the Mitchell report even though star witness Kirk Radomski worked for the Astros. What we also have here is a player whose Hall of Fame qualifications couldn't possibly be more clear-cut. How many first basemen are in the 400-homer, 200-steal club? Just one: Jeff Bagwell. How many first basemen have ever ripped off at least 12 straight seasons with an OPS-plus of 130 or better? Only two: Bagwell and Gehrig. Not to mention this fellow was a rookie of the year, an MVP, a Gold Glove winner and the Simba-esque leader on a team that went to the postseason six times. So why are so many people NOT voting for him again?
I would pay good money to see you tailgate, the looks of utter confusion from your neighbors as you blast Fleet Foxes drowning out their Kid Rock, Slim Thug and the Cupid Shuffle.
Slowly, with both hands, candles burning and disco music in the background.
The sexual repression makes them twitchy.
Cover their mouth, eventually they'll run out of oxygen.
Beat them to death with a tire iron. That'll thin the fucking herd.
I much prefer higher scoring Games to 6-3 SEC snooze fests. That said, this game is just stupid.
It's worse now, BD. Thanks for noticing. Maybe he should play defense, too.
Based on name alone, I always assumed Feist was in the same vein as Tool or Staind. I guess I'm wrong?
Tuesday or Wednesday is good for me.
I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not saying I agree with it, but Bonds, Clemens and Sosa will not be voted in during the 2013 vote.
Now that the latest season of Dexter came to an (unsatisfactory) end, I am dumping my all movie channels as it is a lot of money for very little - and they're bundled so that it's really all or nothing if you want to save any meaningful cash. In reviewing my choices, I discovered that:
Comcast offers XFinity, but not at my location
Comcast offers AnyRoom DVR, but not at my location
The above are subject to separate equipment upgrades that won't happen until some time in 2012...maybe
U-Verse can supply high-speed internet, up to 6mb/s down, but not TV service at my location
AT&T can't tell me if and when TV service will be available at my location
My zip code is 77098. I'm not in the sticks here, people! This is really, really ridiculous and annoying.
I hate them both. I have to use one. I cannot decide which one I want to tell to go fuck themselves more.
That in no way absolves them of the unrelenting shitrain of bitchy criticism of the Astros since 2005, or their own bastardized myopic navel-gazing.
Morons. I was watching at a sports bar and they kept changing the audio between the game and music, but I distinctly remember that one.
Mark is so busy at work that i doubt he has even lurked lately.
I figured he was referring to mercurial and mythical nature of the actual POTWA.
You know what happened next? They fixed the cable.
And most of you goons are probably already in bed.
As for the Red Wings I will say that if I were forced to adopt a city's entire sports scene wholesale it would almost certainly be Detroit.
Gasol may be soft, but he is a better player than Scola. He's his equal offensively(20 ppg scorer), and is a much better defender. I like Scola a lot too, but he is the one that plays no defense. Gasol also has the size to play center in today's NBA which Scola doesn't.
Yes, there is that one. The following year, Gar put Lidge in a similar situation the first opportunity he could. Pujols came up to bat against Lidge in St Louis this time man on second, the game is tied. Lidge gets one swinging strike on him (rather than intentionally walking him) and the next pitch Pujols lines a double to left and the game is over. In the just completed World Series in the now classic game six, it was Pujols who basically had done nothing since the three homerun game up to bat. He lined a sharp single to left to begin the faithful inning that eventually saw Friese hit a triple and shock the world (and Rangers).
Pujols is dangerous every at bat, but to me, he is most dangerous when the situation is intense. Something about those situations that brings out the best (or worse depending on your view) of Pujols. You don't have to get a hit every at bat to prove you're the best hitter in the league and perhaps the history of baseball. Guy is very impressive and I doubt he'll change much in the AL, maybe get more chances to rest his feet as it were. To me, that makes him even more dangerous a player (hitter), along the same vein of Harold Baines or Edgar Martinez. Bpth those guys, if I am not mistaken, were playing (DHing) until they were over 40 years of age.
The truth hurts, doesn't it Ebby?
I'm going to take this hiring has good news. Partly because I believe it, but mostly because I want to believe it. I've been in the dumps about the team for awhile now. Please someone...anyone...tell me this was a good hire. Hell, lie to me if you have to. I don't care.
Actually, no, it doesn't at all remind me of that.
However, the James speculation seemed to stop when word leaked that the Astros had hired Cardinals scouting director Jeff Luhnow as their new general manager. Luhnow had success with St. Louis' drafts, but he made his name with the Cardinals drafting more polished, role players—along the lines of World Series heroes Allen Craig or Lance Lynn—rather than high-risk, high-reward players such as James. It remains to be seen if the Luhnow hire would affect Houston's Rule 5 pick—for example, would the Astros pick a Cardinals player, such as righthander Francisco Samuel?—and Astros officials weren't commenting Thursday night.
Looks like they stole it from Space Jam.
Another way to think of it -- Altuve already has as many walks this season as some people have 'ignored by' in their posting profiles.
There are no bowl games on New Years day this season.
As far as I'm concerned, the college football season ends January 1st (or in this year's case, January 2nd as January 1st is a Sunday). I will not be interested in anything that happens after that.
Understood. Would you change the BCS method, or would anything short of a true playoff type of system satisfy what you think would be a reasonable way to determine a national champion?
I like the BCS just fine. And no, I don't think it's inherently flawed. It is what it is, which is a system designed to promote the big conferences. I think people try to make it more than it is, as if it's some sort of panacea for determining definitively who's the No. 1 team.
The NCAA doesn't care, the BCS does. The NCAA has nothing to do with the BCS.
I have to share this story somewhere, and given the warm welcome so common here, I chose this venue. Before I start, though, I should point out that I am happily married. Not only that, but I reject all the crap about "window shopping" being OK or "look don't touch" or "it doesn't matter where I get my appetite as long as I eat at home." That said, though, I am not blind.
So I'm headed in to work this morning and as I enter the U-Bahn station I notice that a fellow passenger 20 yards or so in front of me is doing an excellent job at filling out her skinny jeans. Long blonde hair flowing down her back, covered by a short leather jacket completed the picture of youth & vitality (to say nothing of sexuality). The train was crowded and as we entered the same car more or less together I took up my stance at the end of the compartment near the pole that everyone is supposed to hold on to. She took the fold-down seat just to my left ... the last available "Sitzplatz". As we both settled in, we made brief eye contact.
Remember -- happily married; no fantasies here, though I did smile slightly in a friendly way. Then it happened.
She got a worried look on her face and said something to the effect of, "Would you like to sit down, sir?"
Arrgghhhhh I really hate getting old.
That was a self-imposed penance ... it never really fit like it does now.
I Googled "Bobby Valentine".
It's a Islay blend, but I'm fond of Black Bottle. About $25, and really smooth and smokey.
I got some Puro Vida Reposado tequila last time I was at Spec's. Owned by the one and only Billy Gibbons, and a fine tequila to boot. Haw haw haw haw.
This reminds me, I have a (small) wedding gift for you.
I've been considering trying a quality tequila for dieting purposes (no carbs I'm told). I've had some that have a scotch-like quality. Any suggestions on what I might try and the price range?
(And I guess I'm being charitable calling it a lateral move in this case.)
Clark, I reject (personally) the dissatisfied customer approach to fandom. For me, Baseball is not a product, it is a tradition which is more than a little quasi-religious. The bullshit that the owners do is just part of the game. I really don't care at all, even a little, how much the owners make or loose. I want to see the Astros play--good or bad, NL or worse. The money (very little actually)that I give to the Astros is paltry in comparison to the time and interest I give the local nine.
I am an Astros fan, I'm going to the games as long as we're both in Houston. Bud and Crane don't give a fuck about me, and I don't give a fuck about them. Plus, I'm expecting to sit in some great seats next season, maybe better than I paid for. It also probably helps that I am Catholic. We learn to put up with a lot of disappointment in the administration.
the world needs more of you.
Do you use the minijack or the 30-pin connector? I see cables for both.
"I'll give you a TKO from Tokyo!"
I would like to applaud you for not listening to a single commercial radio station whatsoever in the past year.
They booed her, not because of her political views, but because she couldn't tell a football from a hockey puck.
WTF did she expect? Bouquets of roses?
I hope not. Those "early" Jays suits were butt-ugly 70's gauche. Hopefully the Astros take a cue from clubs that went back to the classic '60's look.
I've never gotten the Drake appeal. He's trying to do emo Dirty South rap, and those two
modifiers are mutually exclusive.
To be so cavalier in their actions toward a single team and fanbase, with the only reasoning for said actions being "he has to do it" tells me they could give two shits about me.
Quotes from Selig:
"Drayton certainly left a much better franchise than he began with."
If Houston had sports media with any balls they would at least make Crane answer the question of what he's going to do with the $70 mil. I'd like an answer, that's for fucking sure.
HOUSTON -- Major League Baseball told Houston businessman Jim Crane it would not approve his purchase of the Houston Astros unless he agreed to move the team to the American League, The Associated Press has learned.
Crane was forced to agree to move the sale along, a person familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday on condition of anonymity because no official announcement has been made by MLB or the Astros. Approval of the sale could be announced as early as Thursday at a meeting of baseball executives in Milwaukee.
For 15/15 realignment, Houston would be the team moving to AL West. Would create more fairness in baseball ... 15 teams in each league would necessitate interleague play every day but it will be better schedule overall.
To be clear, I don't hate them at all. I don't wish them well, or wish them ill. I just couldn't care less.
I am tempted to say me not caring about the Astros . . . How will anyone tell the difference? Anyway, personally, I don't think any individual who absolutely does not care for the team should be allowed to write Series Previews for them, for example. Even if, you know, his previews had very little to do with the Astros to begin with. But I don't think I should be allowed to write them anymore. Even though I would like to. But I'm not a good judge of whether I should or shouldn't, though.
Hypothetical historical question:
You are in a room with Adolph Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Bud Selig. In your hand is .45 caliber pistol with two bullets.
Who do you shoot?
Answer: Bud Selig twice.
You know the crazy thing? Drayton chipped in $35mil of his own money towards Crane's $70mil discount to facilitate this travesty. Drayton ends his tenure as Astros owner, fittingly, looking like the ultimate Selig's Bitch. Pathetic.
Good thing LaRussa retired, or he might carry 14 relievers, and games would take 5 hours.
The Astros don't deserve to be abandoned.
But Bud Selig does deserve to die in a car fire.
We're nearing the logical break off point for some/many of us. If im going to stop following the Astros, stopping by here becomes less nessisary, if not downright frustrating. Sad that such a seemingly insignificant event may implode a "community" but that seems to be a very possible outcome.
Anyone else feeling torn about this?
And it's amazing how well those lyrics stand up 45 years later. That was one kick ass album.
The Rangers are strongly in favor of having the Astros in the American League West, in part, because it would mean fewer late-starting road games for them.
“I spoke to Nolan Ryan,” the official said, “and he’s really excited. He thinks it’s going to be a very good thing.”
If anything is left after JaneDoe gets finished...
And what about Towlie?
Watched the Eno interview, guess I turned the tv off too early. I thought Eno looked like he had no idea what to expect from his interview.
The only thing constraining their greedy desire for more playoff teams is the fact that it's really, really hard to play baseball in the snow.
"Houston Astros: Don't call me AL."
Scan it or PM me... Thanks!
Saw a good one on Twitter a few days back. Can you pinpoint a single, seemingly insignificant event that most shaped who you are today?
Mine was when I was 14 years old, entering my freshmen year in high school. I had been an at-best decent football player and a fairly good drummer in jr high. Im in the middle of trying out for a place in marching band when the instructor says that he saw I was registered on the football team and couldnt do both. He asked me right then and there if I was going to play football or be on his drumline. This in front of several other judges and my peers. I wasnt even aware going into the room it was a problem. I had never given it an ounce of consideration. I said drums and that was that.
In retrospect, that little decision drove a tremendous amount of life experiences, thus who I came to be. In my high school (as most, I would assume) the band and athletics groups couldnt have been more polar. My circle of friends for the next four years was heavily dictated by that, which then drove where I worked, who I dated, where I went to school (UT), where I worked again, people I met, where I worked again, meeting my wife, having kids. Bam! ~5 seconds as a 14 year old kid.
By the way, you have miles to go before you catch up with Ashton.
I'm not normally a conspiracy guy but I've wondered how this story didn't break until the week after Paterno breaks the record.
I am sorry Mr. Calvin. I was pissed at something else at took it out on you.
You should definitely do some reading if you feel that way.
This is probably the worst major college football sports scandal ever, and the other shoe hasn't even dropped yet (please xplain why so many would be interested in covering up child rape by a former defensive coordinator unless something else was going on)
You should definitely do some reading if you feel that way.
Berkman. is. A. Cardinal.
see, I can write that without puking.
But this is only part true. Because you seem willfully blind to the part of it that isn't: go fuck yourself.
somehow I can loathe the cardinals and like Berkman.
for me some guys represent the character of their teams during certain periods: 5&7 during their era as an easy example. Likewise Chipper Jones is the Braves shithead number one in my mind--the anti-Berkman of his generation--and I despise him. But Lidge, Oswalt, Berkman--these guys are "Astros" wherever they happen to be playing. I don't ever watch them except when they play the Astros (or sometimes in the postseason), and I love it when the Astros beat them (like when Biggio got a homerun off Lidge). Though its a very long shot, if Berkman ends up in the Hall, I have no doubt that he would go in as an Astro.
What hat do you think he'd wear? Or you wouldn't even notice because he's just another turdinal? Frankly, shitting on Berkman is so pinwheel. you're better than that.
I am obviously in the pro-Berkman camp but don't statements like this mean anything for those of you who have been shitting on him lately? I get not cheering him, not supporting him, and hoping he wears a big golden sombrero on days he plays against the Astros, but taking shots on his character is a little much. He's one of the best baseball players of his generation to come out of Texas, and one of the few in baseball that I have zero concern that he ever used PEDs. Also, I believe that he means what he says in that interview--his genuineness is one of the many thinks and make him a likeable player.
Anything Austin Beerworks. It only comes in cans and kegs. Either ABW or Southern Star Bombshell Blonde.
Are you saying you don't like my writing style?
Cmon man. I like Budgirl's writing style.
Once I hit the fifth or sixth one sentence paragraph I give up.
It is

...in addition to his stint on the Astros coaching staff, he also provided anti-aircraft cover as a gunner's mate from a boat during the D-Day invasion of Normandy.
Went to Saturday's portion of Fun Fun Fun Fest. The Joy Formidable is fantastic live, just absolutely high energy and very engaged with the crowd. Enjoyed M83, but they should have been in a club, not a park. And both Donald Glover sets (comedy and rap) were over-crowded, but I did get a nice picture of him rapping on top of the speaker stack.
It was dusty as hell in the park, and I'm still coughing today.

my kids have survived, nay thrived, in the fires of luby's countless times. usually the older patrons welcome their presence, sometimes not.
Really, no concern about the SNS crowd being unfit for kids, just wondering if SNS and kids mix. Obviously they do.
In 2005 I went to Vegas for the first time as part of a long road trip around the country. I was trying to find things for each of my family members along the way but couldn't come up with anything for my mom. We were there in August, almost exactly when the Astros reached 15-30. Because my Mother never loses faith, I bought a $10 futures bet that the Astros would reach the World Series (I still don't know why I didn't bet them to win, it was equally ridiculous at that point) to give to her. That bet paid off $1500 in October. It pays to be positive.
Speaking of, I will be willing to put together Opening Day again. Who is thinking they would come? Just checking to see if there is enough interest.....
This has needed a real campaign all along, but no one has stepped up to launch it. I'm really surprised at that.

Got something about a petition for some death row inmate yesterday morning. Appears to be a weekly newsletter where they highlight one of the petitions on their site. Don't remember agreeing to receive it but whatever.
For the huge upgrade tonight. There's been a lot of speculation of what the latest version will contain. I'm pretty sure there is a speed boost, developer tools and new fonts, but I'm really holding out hope that the camera has been upgraded.
I went to the rock n roll hof about a month ago. I agree with Ron Brand' s assessment. I could have stayed for hours. (mostly to smell Jackie Wilson's sweater). I was actually shocked they had no Rush. But they did have some stuff from fucking Bon Iver
Craig can hit. I wonder where the Cards will try to find a spot for him next year.
Nolan looks like he hasn't had a shit in 3 weeks.
Dream Theater are hands down the best band, musically, to come along in nearly 30 years.
If you don't think Dream Theater is musically proficient, then you've never listened to Dream Theater. Either that or you think Justin Beiber is just the shit.
They haven't canceled Baseball Tonight yet?
So technical proficiency doesn't impress you?
So if I have to use google to figure out what the fuck you're talking about what does that make me?

The new Tom Waits, Bad As Me is out today. It's great. Brings a huge smile from start to finish.
Including this delightful paragraph: That was one of Garner’s most endearing qualities. His thought processes stretched in dozens of different directions, yet he could compartmentalize better than anyone. When the Astros were 15-30 to start the 2005 season, during our pregame media sessions, Garner mostly just grumbled about the oil and gas industry. He’d jumble names when talking about his own players, which paved the way for new, fresh pitchers such as Queeler (Chad Qualls and Dan Wheeler) and Nueve (Fernando Nieve). He’d give his mind a break from baseball by watching the Lifetime Movie Network in the hours leading up to game time (“Watch,” he said to us as we filed into his office before a game in Cincinnati. “They’re going to take her baby away.”)
Done.
This week I've been trying out the Spotify Premium service and my favorite find has been Real Estate. Wasn't too big on the new Ryan Adams or M83 (agree with you; they haven't really done much for me in the past).
Derek Lamely (the kid from Montgomery on the PGA Tour) flew my dad out to the Children's Miracle Network this week...gave him a "Sports Psycholgist" badge, so he can pretty much go wherever he wants. That is the first cool thing. Secondly, Derek is tied for the lead at -6. Thirdly, his amateur playing partners for today are Fred McGriff and Bill Engvall. Pretty freaking cool, eh?
So, because his last name is spelled crazy, they had to misspell his first name, too?
It feels about as wrong as watching hardcore gay porn. With Joe Buck calling the PBP.
How do you find your way around the world? Still carrying the key map book?
But as someone else pointed out, your complete self-absorbtion with your perspective and complete absence of any semblance of concern for the 60-year-old lady you hit was amazing and inexcusable. Even if you really are the rare exception who obeys the various traffic laws while on a bike.
Here's a nice little attempt

Did you see Bench? I think he was there for the release of the new clove and orange zest flavored Captain Morgan's and unwittingly got involved in all the pumpkin hullaballoo.
MM: How would Selig be excluded from the ceremony? Isn't he normally the trophy presenter?
Dude, this isn't Nam. There are rules.
I can safely say that this has never happened to me.
For some reason this brought to mind the image of Selig - Sager offspring which naturally led to my considering which of the two would be tasked with dressing them. I'm not sure there is a preferable scenario.
No. And from my many years around here I am quite certain that I am the only person who doesn't have any particular problem with Braun, either. I don't have any particular problem with the Brewers other than their association with that cocksucker Selig.
I had a craving for pumpkin beer earlier, but was too lazy to go to specs, so I'm settling for the Lagunitas Bavaria style Doppel Weizen
Let us know how those are. As far as I know, you can only get them in Houston.
Yeah. Wolf reminds me that there are a few Brewers I can root for. Him, Hawkins, Craig Counsell I guess...um. Carlos Gomez?
This should not be possible.
However, my strongest preference would be for the Brewers to win it all, but Bug gets excluded from the ceremony.
So here's my question: Am I going to get sued?
Heck of a throw by Cruz to get Cabrera at the plate in the bottom of the 8th. Gave Napoli plenty of time to set up for the collision.

Brewers at Cardinals (TBS, 8 p.m.): We're totally unbiased about which team should win the NLCS (it's the Brewers), because we don't want to antagonize any of you (who don't like the Brewers), and we value all of our readers (just not the ones in St. Louis). It's game three, with the series tied up 1-1.
Jones runs terrible routes and Schaub is bizarrely inaccurate with his short passes. You pair those two guys and it's like the Three Stooges.
With a name like Robin, he probably wasn't ever going to get to second base anyway.
the regular double with cheese and jalapenos is my fave there.
While athletic scholarships do help some poor kids, that is not their primary purpose. If you want to help poor kids, come up with ideas to keep tuition down and university housing cheap.
Fat, drunk and angry is no way to post through life, son.
my right to say that I believe them to be heartless, attention-seeking cunts.
BTW, those assholes from the Westboro Baptist Church are going to picket Jobs' funeral. Margie Phelps tweeted thusly from her iPhone:
Upon being accused of hypocrisy for using an Apple product to broadcast her message, she responded:
People like this give freedom of speech a bad name.
Now, this thread reminds me of some of the epic battles that we used to have around here.
But my point is this: I am neither shocked nor appalled by fan reactions in college sports nowadays, kids or not.... because the times we live in make it a blurred line of television exposure, kids holding press conferences (and exposing themselves to fan chatter on forums that lead to name calling and such), and coaches making decisions that are very business like.
"All things work for the good..."
That large pain-in-the-ass between me and my iPhone/iPod.
The QB of the Texans Longhorns football team in 2011 is a star position, a national celebrity. You are expected to lead the team to the national title every year or spit blood in the process of coming up short. Considering this, it strikes me as a bit funny that you guys are trying to act like he's just some kid givin' it his all-- like that's all he is. HE COULD BE A LEGEND! WE COULD BUILD A STATUE OF HIM! Oh, but he's just some kid playing for fun. How dare you talk about him in any other way?
And that puts a nice bow on a 4-0 weekend of football!
Sorry, Alkie's filled that spot for us.
I actually thought as I was typing, "I wonder if anybody got hit by a trucK...naaaah, I'll use it." Glad you're OK.
I wasn't hit by a truck.
I’m still, and probably always will be, a Clark so to appease your desire for Clark-blood I’ll provide the bait.
Hunter Pence rulz!!!! Ed Wade sux and again proved it by trading my boy to the Phillies, a real team, for nothing. How many times are the Phils going to hose us?
Who does this “Jim” guy think he is telling me to observe a pitcher’s motion, a batter’s swing, or a fielder’s footwork when ERA, batting average, and zone rating tell me all that I need to know?
Moving to the American League will be *awesome* because we can see the Sawks and Yanks every year, we get a natural rivalry with the Rangers, and, best of all, we finally get to dump bunting strategy for DH power! It's not like the Astros have a history in the National League or anything.
Billy Spiers is not omnipotent.
You’re welcome. I’m available to participate in strosrays’ (someone else’s?) 10-point Clark posting destruction upon request.
Oh, wait, one more baiting -->
So... you're saying I should not avoid it because the last one underwhelmed me?
I really am sick of Berkman and his twat mullet.
Anyone recommend the new Wilco?
Yeah, it's not high quality stuff, which is why it's so cheap. If there's a piece of clothing that you wouldn't wear much that you do need for some reason (like a big parka for a trip or something), it's a good destination.
Sounds like a death knell to the NL as Crane and McLane have renegotiated down to cover the move to the AL. Maybe there is some other reason for the lower price, but I can't even imagine one.
Cowboys vs. Aliens was just Romo losing to Sanchez, right?
Henry Winkler should be celebrated more for his role as Barry Zuckercorn on Arrested development.
Barry: Hey, you’re not one of those silly men that’s dressed like a woman, are you?
Hooker: No, baby, I’m the real thing.
>Barry drives off<
It should have nothing to do with it, assuming rational people are voting for the Hall of Fame.
Why are you people so thin skinned about this? The Astros are by far the worst team in baseball, they have a deplorable farm system and have highly questionable leadership. This is obvious to everyone else. Its being unpleasant to be reminded of does not make it any less true.
It's been a while since I've seen a game but there seem to be different commercials. This is a welcome development.
I'm reserving my indignation for if it actually happens.
I WILL NOT MAKE AN ALKIE JOKE I WILL NOT MAKE AN ALKIE JOKE I WILL NOT MAKE AN ALKIE JOKE
I have no idea what you wrote, but that cat hypnotized me.
I'm surprised the Decembrists don't have a 22-song cycle about pirates. Maybe they do and I just haven't heard it yet.
I haven't checked every page in this thread but... Grateful Dead - Space?
Shit, my whole hole theory just got fucked.
if the pilot won't go, neither will i.
You're mispelling schtick works better when it is infrequent.
Nice preview, but I like Deep in the Heart of Texas.

The Astros have selected outfielder Domingo Santana as the player to be named to complete the Pence trade with the Phillies.
Santana is 19 years old and was ranked as the 9th best prospect in Phillies system. He will report to Class A Lexington.
One thing that's often bewildered me about punk is how, despite the tough clothing and attitude, the music is often sing-a-longy, upbeat, distorted but not abraisive, 50's rock and roll-based stuff that's significantly more harmless than one would think at first glance. You look at The Clash's first album, even the title song of this thread, and even though the core message is aggressive and anarchic, the song has a catchy singalong chorus, and a very poppy G-F-C-D chord progression. It is this reason, I think, that I can't always get 'that feeling' when I listen to The Clash, even though I like the band-- it's neither aggressive enough or offbeat enough.
I must be honest, without the benefit of alcohol, this is the first game I've watched in two weeks.
Boy and girl out in the woods about to do it and they take time out to mess with Sasquatch. Totally unrealistic a dude would mess with Sasquatch first. Unless thats what he has nicknamed her coot.
Jason B
Jose Altuve
JD Martinez
Jimmy Paredes
Not to mention in the future.......
Jared Cosart
Jonathon Singleton
What will be the catchy slogan for this crew?
Myers at 80 tosses through 6
It seems like it's been a very bad year or two for late-20's/early-30's hitters signed to new, long contracts. Uggla and Werth have been epically bad, Jeter (older, of course), Adam Dunn; I'm sure there are others I can't think of off the top of my head...
According to Ketch, A&M is easily replaceable, and the Big 9 will be as strong as ever.
When the pitcher is up, resort to control and throw a strike. His command is not good, but he also is throwing pitches that have little chance of being strikes.
Walk the pitcher???? WTF Stop this nibbling shit.
You gotta not take this seriously. Besides, it was Biz.
Fuck that shit, there ain't no magic mumbo jumbo shit going on. No power force gives a shit. It's a game. One team will play better than the other, and that's the one who wins almost all the time.
Fail!
Didn't you notice that I was simply trying not to piss off the BBGs?
I will not insult them or degrade them, but the Dbacks are not what I was expecting in a contending team.
Noe, is your restaurant any good?
Oil changes, lawn maintenance, sheep sexing, cheating...
I understand the general slant of this board is going to range from who cares to good riddance with lots of laughter in between, but...
There's A LOT of smoke around A&M changing conferences to the east this morning.
If this happens, I assume the Big XII-II would continue with TCU or (more likely IMO) Houston.
The 200,000 square-foot center housed the entire inventory of PIAS UK, the primary distribution hub for more than 150 independent labels.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, but all inventory is feared lost. XL/Beggars, Warp, Rough Trade, Domino, 4AD, Sub Pop, Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, Drag City, Thrill Jockey, FatCat, Kompakt, Mute, Ninja Tune, Vice, and Soul Jazz are among those affected.
I was talking about the duo calling the game. Mark Grace blows, and the play-by-play guy is milquetoast who thinks he is funny.
The Snakes television guys suck. We are so fucking lucky to have Brown and DeShaies.
I was going to ask why the bacon was forsaken. But at the time I didn't want to rhyme.
Arrggghhhh!!! These same two fuckers.
So still a no go on the Robert Ellis then?
All ones 'albums' collectively used to be called a catalogue. What shall we call it now? An oeuvre?
There are far worse earworms. I could have given you Don't Stop, for example.
I'm getting older too.
Is it cool to like the new Robert Ellis album? Cause I think I do.
Corpus Christi vs. San Antonio: Cosart vs Erlin. Pretty cool.
I should have realized it earlier and got my ass down there.
Goddamn, I've never seen so much fucking bitching on a message board that doesn't have Longhorns somewhere in the banner. I never expected the GZ/TZ to be deemed unreadable, but wow.
I’d probably watch a car wreck.
I went to Cactus yesterday and bought the new Civil Wars, Steve Earle, Bon Iver, and Gillian Welch. I was saving the Welch for last, after the Bon Iver, but so far the Civil Wars and the Bon Iver were spectacular and the Steve Earle was Steve Earle.
So is Berman (the one in Houston) reliable?
Speaking of, Altuve. Not sure what the turn around is on making 20K bobbleheads, but I assume we will know the answer when Drayton announces Altuve Bobblehead day sometime soon.
The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center's quantitative precipitation forecast preci max....
I blame it on social media. It's become a race to "first" instead of a race of responsible reporting.
To be fair, 16 of those occurred between the 6th and 9th innings in one game. Thanks Cecil.
Speaking of pop-ups blocks / filters, here is one I highly recommend: http://www.jeterfilter.com/
Sickels on Altuve this weekend:
*Maybe Ebby can explain the technical process.
it sounds like the video support guy played the wrong clip. this happened to us recently in a lawsuit against Allergan (Botox). we dodged the mistrial consequence, which is the only reason our IT guy is alive today.
I doubt it was intentional but it such a clear "you-absolutely-should-have-known-better-what-the-fuck-were-you-thinking?" screw up that it is difficult to explain.
This is as good a place as any to say that a) the Civil Wars are fantastic live and b) all of you Zooey Deschanel fans should check out Joy Williams. If you know what I mean, and I think you do.
Well, it's good to know the Astros have home field if they make the World Series.
I'm lying in bed, just like Brian Wilson did. eh? Oh...
"Very unique." Jack Buck, you should know better.
Why is that motherfucker carrying that beaker of green shit? What does a beaker of green shit have to do with gout? I don't understand the beaker of green shit.
Joe Buck is a goddamn cocksucker!
I'm on there now. Like the clean interface. Reminds me of (wait for it) early Facebook.
What are we supposed to do on it?
Did I miss anything? Of course, my viewing attendance has not been great this year either, but that's not all due to the team.
