I've been thinking of folks on the board quite a bit in the midst of enjoying this years run and ASTROS 2017 WORLD SERIES VICTORY.  And as excited as I've been to get to watch THE 2017 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION ASTROS win it all, I've also relished the fact that all of the folks here would be able to enjoy this ride as well and finally get to savor seeing THE ASTROS WIN IT ALL!!!

While marriage and kiddo(s) (one 2 year old and a -3 month old) in the last 4 years, busy work schedule, and keeping ahead of depression issues (which as you know have hit me hard in the past but remain 'at bay') have meant spending (a lot) less time on the board these past 3ish years, y'all mean a great deal to me and have remained on my mind - it has brought me joy knowing how much this season (and tTHE 2017 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP) has meant to the folks here (and me as well).

Congrats again, and thank you and THE 2017 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION ASTROS for an amazing run!

-Lee

Trying to figure out travel plans to catch at least one game, but the logistics for all of them suck.  Game 2 (Verlander start) in LA is a possibility, but I'd be going solo to that one which I'm generally 'meh' about. Curious about how many OWA folks are heading to the Tuesday game in LA / where you are sitting / if there were still StubHub seats nearby (went to game 1 in 2005 and was glad I had another HOU fan with me in the sea of CWS fans).  Feel free to post or DM me if you're going to game 2.

I would have to believe that every regular poster here understands that the price the A's or the Rangers would ask from the Astros will be higher than what they would ask of a team outside the division.

Nah, from what I'd surmise the A's were unwilling to include Jed Lowrie in the deal, so Luhnow told them to pound sand...

See Wiffleball.  Throw Wiffleball.

Great advice! Its the ethical considerations that I'm having trouble deciding how to teach... For example, if you could go back in time and kill Selig before he was born, would you? Should you? And how do you explain Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to a child?!? I haven't a clue how to handle those things...

38
Hey! An OSF sighting!

Alas, baseball-splaining (among other things) to an almost 2-year old takes up much of my time these days...

Just curious to see who the next trade bait will be for a middle reliever or a one and done backup catcher (although watching Conger-bot in the dugout probably was worth a 5th or 6th rounder...). Ugh!

« on: October 13, 2015, 12:05:22 pm »
Where has Fiers been? What are we saving him for? why not use him in the 7th or 8th to start an inning?

With McCullers pitch count climbing yesterday, bullpen struggles over the past month, and the 4-out outing by Gregorson the previous evening, I'd somewhat presumed that they would use him almost as a 'tandem' starter (somewhat along the lines of what HOU does in the minors) to start the 6th.  Curious to see when they'll turn to him going forward...

Just saw the Utley slide into Tejada tonight (sending Tejada out on the cart). Reminded me a bit of the Gregorius (NYY) slide into Altuve the other night. Which made me curious, what are the rules (written or unwritten) for whether or not a take out slide is appropriate?

« on: October 10, 2015, 03:40:37 pm »
I totally agree, and hope they are working their analytical model that direction. Sometimes the next evolutionary step appears to be a step back.

Agreed as well. Another thing I 'think' I'd like to see taken into account more is the fielders relative ranges. I don't know how much this is taken into account currently, but having Valbuena/Correa/Altuve all between 2B and 3B would seem to cause more overlap between Altuve and Correa than reasonably necessary to meet the impetus of the shift... My $0.02 anyway...

Kazmir to Cain and Perez to Hosmer.

Pettis should have sent Rasmus in the first. I would have, anyway.

Keuchel's game now is huge.

Correa's  near-miss (just foul into the RF corner) with the bases juiced followed by the GIDP ended up being huge as well...

Yes, in some instances.  If you have cable through specific providers (most primary providers are included), you are supposed to be able to stream the game via Fox Sports Go by logging in and following the instructions.  I make no promises, but it is supoosed to work... Good luck!

And the fox broadcast was much more palatable to me than the espn one.  I'd prefer one color guy (smoltz) but i doubt we're ever gonna see that again in a playoff broadcast.

Dunno... I enjoyed Archer's performance enough in and of itself to give the thumbs up to ESPN (which is saying something considering he had to overcome Kruk...)...

Ashby referred to him as Qualls on the gound ball dribbler, so I presumed that was your reference...

Biggio only had 606 hits in his first 627 games.

That's not a low-level employee as had been speculated.

Some more comments from Miklasz: Plot thickens in Cards' hacking scandal

There is a lot more meat there, so give it a click...

1. This raises the level of embarrassment for the Cardinals' organization. Correa wasn't*** some low-profile guy that worked in the scouting department in an entry-level position. *** Correa was a rising star in the St. Louis baseball operation, promoted three times since joining the organization in 2009.

4. With Correa gone, we can't help but take note of the so-called Brain Drain in the Cardinals' scouting-analytics department over the past few years.*** The hacking scandal obviously has watchers wondering if the Cardinals will absorb additional hits to the baseball operation as the FBI investigation — as well as the team's internal investigation — draw to a close. ***

Good stuff, thanks!

That $1.2 MM (or $1.3MM if you will) in turn becomes around $2MM when you factor in the 75% tax.

I hadn't been following the math as much this draft, and had no idea they still had another $1.2M to $2M to play with still (after Daz and all).  Good news indeed!

Two Astros MiLB'ers make the US Team Roster

Mark Appel, RHP
Career Transactions: Selected by Astros in first round (first overall) of 2013 draft.
Background: The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 draft hasn’t dominated any level of the minors (career 5.36 ERA), but the former Stanford ace shows three plus pitches in some starts.
What To Watch For: Appel more consistently locates his mid-90s fastball these days, but feel for his slider and changeup can be elusive, leading to the occasional big inning.

Tony Kemp, 2B
Career Transactions: Selected by Astros in fifth round of 2013 draft.
Background: Kemp is one of the shortest players in the game, but that hasn’t slowed down his ascent to Houston. The Southeastern Conference player of the year at Vanderbilt in 2013, he has hit .315 as a pro.
What To Watch For: Kemp’s versatility is as important as his hitting ability. He’s not spectacular at any defensive position, but he can handle center field, left field and second base.

No Astros MiLB'ers on the World Team Roster (although that doesn't surprise me, as IIRC there can be a max of two players representing each MLB franchise), though Corpus Christi manager Rodney Linares is on the World Team staff (per Berman tweet).

Yeah.  I get 5 bars and LTE on my AT&T connection in Reliant, and absolutely no service whatsoever.  I've tried wi-fi and that is the same.  I suspect I have more server capacity in my spare room than they've installed at Reliant.

I've had the same thing at other venues (Moda Center in PDX, Qwest Field in SEA, etc.). My general WAG was that the lack of service/ability to receive data was purposeful (jammed, or something or another), so am curious if it is generally a server issue (or perhaps some nepharious plot by the man to keep me down...).

Presumably the Cards will have to turn over laptops for all employees who were in that house, and any desktops kept there.  The Feds will find who dunnit, or they'll find a bunch of erasures or attempts thereat. - which is tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice and typically treated with the harshest of available penalties.

The Joliet Jakes are probably in a world of hurt right now.

Computers were already requested and turned over (St. Louis Post-Dispatch): In late February, the FBI visited Busch Stadium and took computers as part of the investigation.

Additionally, there appear to have been multiple hacks (Chronicle): The Times quoted investigators as saying they have discovered evidence that Cardinals officials first broke into the Astros’ internal website in 2013. A second breach occurred in March of 2014, a source told the Chronicle.

Dude. The Astros guys fucking re-used their old Co-ards passwords. The Co-ards kept trying down the list until they got a match. That's it. No one was pinging anything, no one was doing anything that my mother couldn't do.

Some more info via Passan (Yahoo Sports): LINK

While the Astros’ security wasn’t strong, the source said, the breach involved more than taking old passwords from Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow’s days as Cardinals farm director and inputting them into a website.

There is also this tidbit:

One official familiar with the investigation told Yahoo Sports the FBI traced the breach back to a house in Jupiter, Fla., the city in which the Cardinals hold spring training. A number of Cardinals employees used the house, according to the official, perhaps complicating authorities' ability to pinpoint the alleged culprits. The assistant U.S. attorney handling the potential case in Houston is Michael Chu, whose areas of focus include computer hacking and intellectual property.

I will always heartily endorse the hiring of a lawyer but small claims court exists to ease the process for non-lawyers. It's not going to hurt the case to bring a lawyer but it's likely an unneccessary expense.

Does Texas have any equivalent to ORS 20.080 (allows for the recovery of attorney fees in tort actions under $10K provided certain conditions are met)? If so, there are likely pleanty of attorneys who'd be willing to take on the case.  Moreover, the hammer of potential attorney fee liability often gets the carriers to act more reasonably on the front end as well.

The Bus Ride Discussion Forum / Re: 2015 Draft Thread
« on: August 01, 2014, 12:43:02 am »
Considering that the Astros are likely to have 2 top 5 picks (potentially as high as 1.1 and 1.2 or 1.2 and 1.3), a comp round pick, and a high 2nd round pick, they could very well have a $20M draft pool in the 2015 draft...  And that has me kinda curious... How is the 2015 draft looking as a whole?!? (Strong draft, weak draft, deep draft, etc...)?!? Other comments on the 2015 draft?

Thanks - I'll hang up and listen.

At least what I read wasn't certain that he would stay at 3rd.  It'll be interesting to see what they do with him.

If it is "move him to 2B" there might be a mutiny...

I wondered that myself...

One that is just a collection of funny stories is Bob Uecker's Catcher In The Wry.  It's not on the same level as Ball Four, but Uecker is one funny man.

Hadn't heard of this one before, but it's on my list now. Thanks!

I strongly disagree. Appel is a whiny baby who's done nothing as a professional but bitch and feel entitled. I hope that he gets his ass lit up in Corpus.  I don't blame Hader for speaking out one bit.

Appel is a whiny baby?!? I think you've got your players mixed up here Happy (seriously). To my recollection, Appel has bene honest (often brutally honest) about where he is at, and pretty damned humble throughout as well.

Yeah, but in the court of public opinion, Close wins because he knew he could get there first and start squealing in pain.

Speaking of Close, I wonder how the contract extension/negotiation discussions are going with his client Dexter Fowler... (I'm also curious how many other Astros / Astros MiLBers are currently represented by Close as well...).

I don't think we'll ever know unless Aiken's camp releases the information.

And I'd doubt seriously that teams are going to take a chance on him with a top 5 pick next year unless he agrees to show them his medicals... And if they are really iffy (which my WAG says they are), then he won't be a top 5 pick next year (or ever) either...

I'm getting tired of the Aiken drama, and there's still a day left of it. I predict that the Astros will be slaughtered in the court of public opinion and fail to sign Aiken and Nix. The consolation of possibly getting Marshall and a comp pick in 2015 seems hardly worth the damage.

If they don't sign Aiken, then they are not going to have available slot money to sign Marshall...  And speaking of Marshall, that'd be a shame as otherwise he will be forced to endure going to school at LSU which I think we can all agree is cruel and unusual punishment... [/ducking]

No my theory is that there were safer bets like Nola that may not have ace ceiling but could be a top notch #2.  And with likely ~2 years less development time.  2 years less time for bad shit to happen.  That is all.  That's not to say that Aiken was the wrong pick.  Just one that comes with a higher risk and likely higher reward.

Meh. Barrett Loux was a safe college pick until AZ saw his physical and declined to sign him.  Rangers ultimately did (much to my chagrin), and Loux is currently rehabbing from TJ surgery...  Without pre-draft physicals, its all a crapshoot (be it Aiken, Nola, etc.).

According to Twitter people, Jason Lane is now pitching for San Diego.

Per Adam Wexler, via Twitter @awexler

Lane, now a lefty relief P, was called up today by the Padres, retired all ten Pirates batters he faced tonight, striking out 3.

Good for him!

Look to the future

"The thought of taking a polished and now effective college player knowing that the guy can be in Houston helping out the waves of arrival that we'll be getting from Double A, Triple A and the Lancaster squad in the next two years and slot right in, that's going to be very attractive, and we're definitely going to be thinking about that, and weighing it," Luhnow said.

"But just like in any, and this doesn't just apply to baseball, any economic scenario you're in, money sooner is worth more than money later, and in a sense talent's like that, too.

"If we're so compelled by the high school talent that we're willing to invest the time and the patience in and absorb the risk involved, then we're not going to be afraid to do that. Our view with the whole thing is we want to look back at this pick in six, seven, eight, 10 years and be happy with the pick, versus the quick jolt just for the sake of the quick jolt."

On the other hand

Luhnow made the counterpoint that because the Astros have so much talent in the middle of their system, drafting a younger star would be logical to add balance.

"You could actually make the opposite argument, that we don't have any superstars kind of on the rookie-ball level, so why not put someone there so you can sequence it better," Luhnow said. "But we'll get the best player."

Interesting observations both ways by Luhnow.

Carlos Correa just put one over the scoreboard in Elsinore. 3-run shot to give him 4 RBIs tonight. Epic home run.

More from Schwartz (via Twitter ‏@jasondschwartz)

Was just informed that Carlos Correa’s home run over the scoreboard traveled 449 feet.

If I'm not road tripping down to Corpus to see him play in July, I will be pissed.

Apparently Rajan thinks Correa will be in MMPUS by June 10 (via promotion to the Hooks in time for their game at MMPUS against the Missions). (Rajan via Twitter @GregRajan)

Prediction: Promotion coming before MMP #cchooks game. MT @jasondschwartz Carlos Correa’s home run over the scoreboard traveled 449 feet.

ETA...

Smith thinks it'll be at the end of the JetHawks 1st half of the season (Smith via Twitter ‏@Eric_L_Smith)

.@GregRajan My guess is that it happens after #JetHawks wrap up 1st half on June 14. Regardless, it's going to be soon though. Kid's a stud.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is that you were there, got the ball and got King George to sign it.

I'm glad Springer cranked 2 HRs that day...  Tried to buy the first one (actually, I was going to see if whoever ended up with it would trade me for an inexpensive SEA autographed ball from the team store), but it had found its way to a little 4-5 year old boy, and didn't have the heart to even try to take it off his hands... Fortunately, he hit a second one (which was easy enough to obtain).  Now if only Altuve had hit one out as well...

All in all, a very fun couple of games to go to!!!

Actual May Line:  0-3 with a 10.05 ERA, 6 BB and 6 K in 14.1 IP and a 2.30 WHIP.  The good news is that it is a late game so we do not have to experience the carnage live.

No, the good news is that I am going to the Sat/Sun games instead of the one tonight...

309
I'm stunned that for Stros-Mariners you think you can wait this late and get tickets.  I guess you'll pay a healthy premium through a scalper.

I think even the scalpers aren't willing to part with their tickets for this matchup...

Seriously though, I have my eyes on a set of tickets at Stubhub - if dude gets real (it is, after all, SEA vs. HOU - not exactly a game one should expect to get face value for their tix, much less a premium proce for them), then I'll pick grab 'em... Otherwise, you can get good scalped seats at Safeco (re-sale rules are somewhat lax), so we'll just pick them up at the game if it comes to it...

310
I'll be there for the Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon games (haven't gotten my tix for Sat., but am sitting on the second row behind the Astros dugout for the Sunday game...). Go 'Stros!

Dominguez - Single to CF
Krauss - Flies out to RF
Springer - (Dominguez advances on a passed ball) Single to LF, Dominguez to 3rd
Carter - (Cotts in for Martinez) K swinging
Guzman - (In for Presley) K swinging

End of the 8th. Rangers 4-0.

I started listening during the Carter AB. Goes up 3-0, then struck out, swinging at ball 4 twice (3-1 and 3-2 after a foul ball).  My only question was he was given the green light at 3-1...

Consider. The. Source.

Even the Angels haven't locked up Trout long term. It's beyond idiotic to suggest that this team's management is opening wide their wallets for a player who has zero major league at-bats.

Isn't that what the Rays did with Longoria?  As a general rule, I wouldn't disagree with this statement.  That said, there are some players who are worth it (and fwiw, I'm sold hook, line, and sinker on Springer).  And taking risks with young players early is one of those things that the Astros are going to necessarily do under the current model.

Much better to miss a couple of times at $23M than to miss once at $100M... (See, e.g. Carlos Beltran). Just sayin',..

Had the same issue this past week.  Spent 3+ hours on the phones with them.  They couldn't fix it from their end. Finally had a tech come by on Saturday.  Said the connection coming into the house was filled with water and the line had moss, had been chewed on by squirrels, etc. Replaced the line coming into the house, but still the same problem.  Said the boxes had been 'strained' by the weak signal, and replaced those as well. All is working great now, but what a friggin' pain in the interim...

I am continuously baffled by the apparent consensus that Thomas is a shoe in when all these other players aren't.

Or the argument that it was okay to refuse to vote for Bagwell because "even if he didn't cheat he and his fellow players could have made a stronger statement against PEDs via the union" and yet vote for Glavine (former MLBPA head player rep (or something like that)).  Asshats!

« on: December 27, 2013, 02:54:53 pm »
I'd had a pair of clack Luccheses and a pair of smooth Ostrich black cherry Tony Lamas (and a couple of others along the way that have been put to rest or I've gotten sick of them) for 15+ years that I've re-soled a dozen plus times between 'em.  They've gotten so bad (torn, etc) that I rarely wear them any more.  Saw a pair (actually a couple) of Luccheses (low end) that I liked a lot - and for a legit price - when I was at IAH (of all places) in early December, but they didn't have my size.

Ended up going to the Cavender's in Conroe(ish) yesterday before I left town, and got a pair of brown Luccheses (same as I saw at IAH, and within $20 of the proce as well).  Very pleased with the rec, and the service at Cavenders - thanks Sphinx, and but for stabbing myself in the foot on a 1 1/2" or so lasting nail while trying on one of the pairs, would've walked away with two pair (still need to replace the black).

[Fortunately, I caught myself before putting a hole through my foot, but was kinda freaked out for a moment as I presumed it was a jacked up needle someone had discarded in the boot...  The gal helping me with my purchase was horrified, and the manager was a tad 'sipleased' about it as well (and that was with me saying it was no biggie and failing to mention I'm a plaintiff's attorney...).  In retrospect, if I'd whined about it I'd probably have gotten that pair gratis just to shut me up...].

Beer and Queso / Re: FCC moves to end sports blackouts
« on: December 18, 2013, 10:17:37 pm »
Broadcast territories aren't arbitrary.  They're geographic.

Sure, you are correct that there is a 'geographic component' to blackout rules/broadcast territories. To say that these blackout anything but absurd, however, is absurd.

That doesn't mean the rules are "absurd".

Eastern Montana blacked out from SEA games - absurd;
Tulsa, Oklahoma and Little Rock, Arkansas being blacked out from HOU (and TEX / STL / KCR) games - absurd;
Northeastern New Mexico being blacked out from HOU (and TEX / ARI / COL) games - absurd;
Las Vegas being blackout out from ANA, ARI, LAD, OAK, SDP, and STG games - absurd;
Des Moines, Iowa being blacked out from CHC, CHW, KCR, MIL, MIN, and STL games - absurd;
Hawaii being blacked out from OAK, ANA, LAD, SFG, SDP, and SEA - absurd; and,
the absurdity is not limited to the areas noted above...

And like Craig noted, fans in many of these markets are blacked out despite the fact that numerous teams do not even broadcast in those makets. Take Hawaii for example - blacked out from 6 major league teams despite the fact they are thousands of miles away (and there is that whole pesky Pacific Ocean thingie between 'em to boot) from any of them with 2 teams not being broadcast on any of the islands (SEA and SDP) and 2 others (SFG and OAK) are not primarily available either.

Absurd.

Don't get carried away.  OU is atrocious on offense.

I appreciate that - especially given the loss of one of its best RBs...  Still though, at that point in the game 7 consecutive stops within the 12 against any offense says a lot about the unit as a whole...

Beer and Queso / Re: Baylor/OU --- Oregon/Stanford
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:28:50 pm »
Of course there's a reason both are starters, but I'm starting to think Linwood may do okay in Martin's role. But Reese... Can Norwood/Fuller/Coleman/Rhodes fill that loss?

If last night is any indication, Norwood'll fit in alright.  As for the game, I knew Baylor's D was legitimate, but I really had no clue as to how legit they could actually be.  Stopping OU for 7 consecutive plays from inside the 12 yard line (goal line stand; forcing a field goal after OU returned a kick to the 12) during a first quarter in which the BU O was getting shut down?!? Phenomenal!  And a 29-point margin of victory given that the Bears O was not firing on all (or even most) cylinders? Superb!

And as an aside, was especially nice to be able to watch the game in PDX with about 20 others last night (15-16 BU grads and significant others, along with a couple of general attendees...)!  [*We may have been the only ones in PDX that enjoyed watching college football last night though...  Not a ton of happy Ducks fans around today...].

There's a reason he went undrafted, several actually, and the two most prominent are size and arm strength.

Neither here nor there, but IMO NFL teams tend to overstate the importance of 'prototypical size' when evaluating a QB (hence the reason that kids like Russel Wilson fall to the 3rd round).

« on: November 04, 2013, 12:01:49 pm »
From the 'prospects I know little or nothing about but like what I read here' department...

2.LHP Reymin Guduan: I’m a sucker for southpaw velocity, and Guduan stands in elite company when it comes to arm strength from the left side. A relatively unknown prospect-–he has only 2 1/3 innings above the complex level—the 21-year-old Dominican can pump upper-90s heat like it’s a common outcome. Relief prospects don’t offer much, especially when they will be 22 coming into the season with a very limited professional record at the full-season level. But 6’4’’ lefties who can touch 100 mph on the radar gun are always worth keeping a very close eye on.

These international stars seem to be less risky than the normal free agent market.  Darvish, Cespedes, Puig, and Soler (still in the minors but is a top prospect) are all on average more bang for your buck than just the normal FA market where you get stuck with longer, more expensive contracts for guys in the tail ends of their careers.

But for every one of those, there is also a Kei Igawa or Daisuke Matsuzaka...  That said... The guy I'd really love to see HOU in on is Masahiro Tanaka.

Bidding on Cuba defector Jose Abreu is expected to be for a $70 million deal, sources say. White Sox,Astros, Rangers viewed as frontrunners.

More on Cuban defector Jose Dariel Abreu via this ESPN LINK:

"He has monstrous power," said a scout who began following Abreu at the 2009 IBAF World Cup.*** One talent evaluator said Abreu could step into a big league lineup tomorrow and hit .260 with 25 home runs. That's not far from what Cespedes is doing in Oakland this season. Another expressed concern that Abreu looks "confused" against breaking balls and thought he could benefit from a little seasoning in the upper minors. Once Abreu gets the hang of major league pitching, the consensus is that he has the strength to hit 30 homers by accident.

Dodgers v. Tigers is my ideal WS. Brooklyn was my favorite team from when i started watching baseball until the Dodgers moved west. Detroit was my Dad's favorite team because they tried to sign him out of HS. I will root for the Dodgers.

LAD v. DET is preferred 2013 WS at this point as well.  Frankly, I'm a big fan of Jim Leyland, like a number of the DET players, and wouldn't exactly mind DET getting a ring.  As for LAD, first and foremost, they are not the Cardinals, so they have that going for them.  And lastly, the chance to catch Vin call a World Series game on the radio is enough for me to root for LAD to make it in and of itself...

Sickels posted his Top 75 Prospects: End of Season Update (h/t to Astros County)

The Astros on this list are as follows (link provides commentary):

#6: Carlos Correa
#9: George Springer
#20: Mark Appel
#37: Mike Foltynewicz
#43: Lance McCullers, Jr
#73: Jon Singleton
Honorable Mentions: Delino DeShields, Jr, and Rio Ruiz

Good to see someone finally including Springer in their Top 10.  As for Singleton at #73, Sickels has been fairly consistent on ranking Singleton below (or well below) most of the other prospect folks.

And to add, though I usually don't point people to readers comments, I think the "Springer-detractors seem to misuse age relative to level" comment is worth a look (and Sickels seems to have given his approval to it as well).

It takes a little time for the feed to get down here what with the router hops and NSA filters and so on.

I'd be surprised if the NSA didn't have more 'eyes on' activities here in PDX than it does in all of Central America... Just sayin'...

Barnes with the sac bunt moving Paredes to 2B.  Villar at the dish, goes 2-0 and then gets an IBB.  Jose Altuve is coming to the dish with runners at 1B and 2B with 1 out and a 4-4 tie.

Peacock had a great outing tonight.

Bo showed some fire getting tossed in B8.

Astros lead 3-2 in B9 with 2 outs.

Wish I could say I'm confident in the final outcome of this game... but... 2 outs in B9 with none on and a 3-2 count doesn't exactly not make me nervous...

Bullshit Ryan.

I'd disagree.  And for what its worth, Maury Brown (BizofBaseball, etc.), who was on the front end of the 'Crane War Profiteering' stories (i.e. not in the 'Friends of Crane' circle), isn't buying the Forbes numbers / thinks they are off significantly.  Also thought the headline was "The Forbes headline was pure SEO ["link bait"].  Brown also had this to say about the rebuild:

Maury Brown ‏@BizballMaury 21h
To repeat: Astros idea to rebuild quick (rip the Band-Aid off fast) better than prolonged. IMO a bit too radical but premise is sound

Springer hits a humpback liner that the shortstop makes a nice leaping grab on. But Laird picks him up with a two-run shot to LF that gives OKC a 3-1 lead.

That was a superb catch to rob Springer of the hit.

Walks in his first AB on a 3-1 count (he walked twice last night, too). Then he steals second cleanly but is stranded there.

Doesn't look like Singleton is in the lineup tonight.

One "40" down, one "40" to go! Congrats to George Springer for "joining Ruben Rivera and Darryl Strawberry as the only Minor Leaguers with at least 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases in the last 40 years."

486
He's down by 3% now.

That pisses me off... A lesser candidate winning means we just got our asses handed to us... The fact that it was the natural heir apparents to the rightful forced move-to-the-AL team only makes it sting worse...

Good for Velazquez. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in high-A.

He's on the bump for LAN tonight. Here are some comments from LAN PBP guy Jason Schwartz:

@jasondschwartz: Velasquez looked great in 1st inning. 1-2-3 with 2 strikeouts. Struck out Bridger Hunt on NASTY change up. #Astros #JetHawks

@jasondschwartz: Official scorer walked over to booth with a “who the heck is this guy?” regarding Velasquez. Hit 97 in 1st, chg at 84.

And from another teams PBP guy in response:

@jasondschwartz: Re: Velasquez. RT @bdmarcus: @jasondschwartz I had 3 or 4 more guys tell me today he is the best pitcher they have seen or faced all year
