No, no, no.  This is the 21st Century.  It's time for Twitter mob mentality.  The Astros should have to forfeit this Series, Luhnow and Taubman fired, the Astros fined $1 billion, and Hinch deported back to whatever shithole place he's from.  Oklahoma, I think.  Let's make it go viral!!

A billion is a bit much....

4
Damn...is that Cashman's side piece?

That was a bit much...

5
Papi to Springer: “Glasnow was tipping his pitches, right?”
Springer: “Man, I’m too stupid for stuff like that. It’s hard enough just to see the white thing and swing at it.”

Fucking classic

6
So that’s like a.500 batting average then (2.000 slugging).

I mean if you want to get technical, but one batter drinker don't win the game.

7
How did you wait this long? So much restraint.

There is no issue, it's a progression.  Checks and balances.  Good win, see you next game.

8
Bite me.

It's a concerted effort to do what it takes.  After all, I drank Lone Star and Optimator on Tuesday.

9
Last game the Astros were down 4-1 and it felt like 40-1.  Tonight they're up 4-1 and it feels like they're down 4-1

Relax

10
Someone else will if he demands six years. Astros won’t go for that long.

And that's fine.  He might regress to the mean with the Mets or whatever whore team wants him.  At that point, fuck him.

11
We’ll see.

I don't believe it.  Astros or not.

12
Well, he's not Dave Roberts, that's for sure.  Cash has to manage this way.  That's the way his team is built, and getting behind early meant he had to pull out all the stops at every stop.  It caught up with him.

Cash managed this way all season.  Roberts fucked his up in short order.

13
Hinch: “We want you to stay.”

He said 'I'll think about it'

14
I thought the same thing.  He's got one left, but not a good one.

It's a game of spades..............

15
I love the shot of Hinch and Cole strategizing.

That was something.  I wish I knew what was said.

16
Last game the Astros were down 4-1 and it felt like 40-1.  Tonight they're up 4-1 and it feels like they're down 4-1

Tractor's broke.  Go fix it.

17
Last game the Astros were down 4-1 and it felt like 40-1.  Tonight they're up 4-1 and it feels like they're down 4-1

Now what?

18
I do not like pinch hitting for Maldonado

It's almost like he doesn't trust Chirinos.

19
It must be something to see a different pitcher every at bat.

20
Dave Cash strikes again.

21
Last game the Astros were down 4-1 and it felt like 40-1.  Tonight they're up 4-1 and it feels like they're down 4-1

Go get your scotch.

https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/1182455100507381760

@ESPNStatsInfo: In the 3rd inning, Gerrit Cole didn't record a strikeout.

Why is that significant?

Cole had recorded at least 1 strikeout in 73 consecutive innings (reg. and postseason) dating back to Aug. 1.

It was the longest such streak in the Expansion Era (since 1961)....by 33 innings.

Last game the Astros were down 4-1 and it felt like 40-1.  Tonight they're up 4-1 and it feels like they're down 4-1

Correa is flashing leather tonight.

Ridiculous.  50 seconds behind I am.

26

Smoke a cigar.

27
Sparks says Cash's plan is to build a bridge to Morton for 7-8-9

That doesn't seem smart.  It worked for the Astros, but against?

28
Kevin Roberts is gonna regret this.

Another Optimator and more dried sausage....................................

31
Optimator and dried venison sausage.  I done my part.

32

Their pitching should be getting hammered.  I hope Houston rights it’s ship and takes care of them; if not, they will be a feast for the Yankees.

Coming from a Limey.............

33
Serious question

Do I dive into Optimator now or wait?

Keystone till then.....

I'll wait till the 7th; I got to finish this beer first.

34

37
I hope you're right

I'm grabbing a Lone Star Longneck as I speak.  I can't take it no more.

38
I still am not sure they will have to play Thursday.

I concur

39
Joe Girardi is legitimately one of the dumbest fucking people I've ever heard on television.

Adames was aiming for that ring, you see.......

40
Girardi says the Rays hitters know how to play the 'rings' for ground rules better than any other team.  Amazing.

This place is interesting. As an out of towner I was thrilled to find a really smart Astros baseball community.
Until I had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with good ole Jim R - the proverbial internet tough guy.

JR decides who has the right to speak her. He demands credentials. He needs posts to be appropriately worded.
He doesn't need anyone else to contribute. He is MR CONTRIBUTOR.

I had this crazy ass notion that being the fan of the same team made it OK for 'outsiders' to post here.

But no, good ole JR just wants to play a colossal game of dick out deciding who gets to talk Astros baseball and who doesn't.

So when I mention at 10pm at night that I saw Verlander was in final stages of contract negotiation, and I look at the headlines and don't see it
mentioned, I figured what the hell, no one could possibly find fault with me sharing that insight.

Wrong.

Good ole JR decided that he had to attack even that innocuous post. Personally.

You guys have a helluva website. And I know you are a tight knit community, so leaving this here isn't going to make any friends.

But it truly sucks that one tired, bitter old man can spew his shit with immunity.

Good Ole JR, kiss my internet loving As-tros. goodnight.

This is probably Cabrera'd (although I couldn't find it in the thread), but I did read a pretty interesting article about Osuna, and the history of the Astros WRT domestic violence, in the dead-tree San Antonio Express-News last Sunday (not yesterday). I've googled and I can't seem to find it.

I'm pretty sure it was written by Brian T. Smith and almost certainly it appeared in the Chronicle (which is owned by Hearst, same as SA paper).

Apparently, the Astros (via Astros wives') had a relationship with a battered women's shelter when McLane was owner. This ended when Crane decided to focus Astros charitable giving on inner-city youth.

They also talked with the executive VP for a battered women's charity (wish I could remember the name) and she said that zero tolerance policies can unintentionally provoke greater abuse (since the abuser has nothing to lose once they've crossed the line once), and they oppose zero tolerance as an organization.

The article also mentioned past Astro domestic violence incidents like Lugo and Cesar Cedeño. It was a really good read-wish I could find it.

Try Harder.

He’s exactly what you’d picture...little old guy with one of them magnifiers on his head, small shop with a gazillion watches and clocks all around.at any rate, I walk in wearing an Astros polo shirt and the guy proceeds to spend 15 minutes talking about the Astros before he ever looks at the watch. He went in about how good the team at Fresno is.  I don’t think he reads this site either.

I got a locksmith in SA that I had the same experience with.  Little old guy, but with keys and locks instead of watches and clocks.

I'm also not fond of their tech support practices or service.  Just an overall poor experience with them.  When I needed to integrate a PC for a customer, I would build out with an Intel desktop board and processor and customize the rest around a corporate environment.  The only failures experienced with these was the hard drive, which is understandable given the MTBF.  Intel no longer offers 'desktop' motherboards and is concentrated on server platforms, of which I still build many.  As you can't really 'build' a laptop, I was pimping Toshiba until they basically folded and went Gateway.  In order to fill that void, I am currently using the Lenovo brand for laptops and desktops.  I never had a dislike for their products, but the price point was such that nobody in San Antonio would want to purchase them, especially when they were branded IBM.  Once the spin-off happened, they corrected the difference and I think offer a superior product.

As a conceding side note, when you have such a large market share as Dell does here locally, you tend to see more broken Dells simply because there are more to break.

I vote Lenovo since Toshiba has basically gone consumer/non-customization only.  Dell and HP are beyond garbage.  The Acers I have seen seem to be good, but I don't know if you can customize them or not.  I am speaking from a business platform, so I'm always thinking of reliability and ease of use because I have to support them.  You can surely customize a Lenovo for under $1000 and get a great machine.

They are positioning themselves for a constant revenue stream.  There is no media to reinstall, so just wait until you need to and see what happens.  Windows 10 will soon be a SAAS, and you will be charged monthly for being able to use your PC if you want to use Windows as the OS.  You can decline the EULA and it will revert back, but for how long, I don't know.  If it does get installed, you have about thirty days to revert back through a built in feature.  I can't wait for a class action to put a stop to the bullshit.

The gauge I read is at the 311 bridge, and it said 42,000 cfs. But the valley is pretty wide there, so it may not look totally ridiculous, at least as far as height goes. Width might be a different story.
I'm right at Nichols Landing and it didn't crest as high as it did Memorial day I don't think.  The rainfall was not as far upriver as then.

Presumably, wrt the Guadalupe, "cfs" means "cuties floating shitfaced".

Not at Spring Branch.  Sattler to New Braunfels maybe.  I have never in 43 years seen this type of localized flooding.  River is not necessarily higher but everything else is.

The catcher, who did the game prep on the hitters, knows more about what the incoming pitcher needs to know for him to get outs. There's really no reason for the exiting pitcher to say anything to the incoming pitcher.

I've pretty much had it with ESPN.  From their announcers and so-called political correctness to their obvious favoritism of certain sports, I can't bear to keep using their site.  I've been using them for so long, I'm use to their layout, which seems maneuverable enough if you can find anything worth reading.  I've used them as a home page for probably ten years, and now even the home page plays videos automatically.  Fox Sports page looks hard to maneuver and strange, but it could just be today for the Superbowl.  Are there any sites that are straight forward and contain stories (reporting) that are relevant to the sports world left?   Are there any sites worthy of being a home page?  What do you use and why?

They did. I don't know if that would have happened if there had been a Strasburg/Harper clear-cut 1/1 (would they have taken him over Correa?), so I don't know if it will take that long for them to decide this year.  There's no overwhelming favorite, though, and there's no reason for them to stop looking even if there was.  They have to be prepared for injuries, etc.  It very well could go down to the wire, but they may make up their mind before then.

Is Appel considered by anybody here as clear cut as Strasburg/Harper?  In your opinion, and without me looking it up, did the Nationals do right by paying what they did?  I guess it was before the bonus pool structure of this year?  In other words, if Appel is Strasburg, then spend the bank?

The Bus Ride Discussion Forum / Re: Early 2013 Draft Thread
« on: May 08, 2013, 12:04:29 pm »
This is where a degree of gamesmanship can come into play.  We may have a preference, but have a price in mind.  The problem is that the Cubs are supposedly in hard on the same two pitchers.  If they have a preference, they can't cut technically cut a deal before the draft, but they can give indications that they're willing to pay slot, or whatever.  It wouldn't be smart to do that for both, but if they prefer Appel, we may have to pay more than we wanted if we do select him.  Same goes for Gray.

I don't think you have to look at it as just one guy.  I get that the strategy used last year allowed them to get McCullers and Ruiz, in addition to Correa.  If you see guys as equal, it makes a lot of sense to go that route.  But, if there is a gap, you have to remember that it's not just Appel we're counting on to turn it around.  You have Cosart, Folty, Springer, Singleton, McCullers, Correa, DDS, and a slew of other players that you are counting on to turn it around.  You're counting on him to be a big part of that, but it's going to be those other guys stepping up, as well.

So I guess it depends on if the Astros will pay up-to slot or over.  Are they now willing to do this?  Following the 'rules' hasn't done them any favors in the past.

Keith Law said yesterday in his chat that he iss hearing the Astros are leaning towards striking a deal with Gray to save money for the next pick at 40.

Repeated same on Baseball Tonight last evening.  Seems to believe that spreading the money around would result in more players signing.  Quantity>Quality?  Sounds like the same philosophy they used to trade all their players with names you know for prospects and control.  Granted, I don't think Appell alone can turn anything around.

Same here.  And it's worse in the playoffs, because even a thoroughly beaten team will keep fouling...just in case.

Basketball is, in my mind, is not even a legitimate sport anymore than the WWF is.  They have tremendous athletes with talent, but the fact that the game can be manipulated and shaped by the decisions of zebras, without being held accountable in the short term, makes it unwatchable.  The Rome/Stern confrontation should have been dissolved quickly with Stern laughing off the question instead of getting defensive about it.  The more appropriate question would be is the fix in.  How would he have answered that question?  Laughing or defensive?  Watching 7' men run the court and jump and shoot 3's with their talent has been overshadowed to the point that watching 7' 400lb men throw each other around with speed and agility in the ring is the same in my eyes.  It is impressive to watch these talents, but the 'game' itself leaves much to be desired and has become increasingly so in the last few years.  JMO!

Beer and Queso / Re: And another thing...office coffee etiquette
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:09:54 am »
What are the rules for office beer etiquette?

If you're going to live in a civilized society, there are certain behaviors that should be observed when it comes to the ice chest.

1.  When you arrive at the office, and the beer hasn't been iced down, don't bitch and moan.  Ice down the beer.

2.  When you do ice the beer, just ice it normal, according to the amount of cans or bottles.  We understand that you may like your ice chest crammed full of ice or mostly water, but don't use 1/4 of the bag for a case, and don't use 4 bags just because you had the room.

3.  The can bin is for cans.  It's clearly marked.  Don't put bottles in the can bin, and don't put cans in the trash.  Believe it or not, recycling is a big deal to some people.

4.  Finally, when you take the last beer, go on a beer run.  Just because you only 'drank one' doesn't mean you didn't drink.

Follow these rules, and the office will be a better place for all of us.

Look right while cooking or the finished product?

My guess is if you made a list of the top 30 high-end restaurants in the US, you couldn't find one of them not using SV. You wouldn't necessarily know it to eat there (unless you realized that a protein was cooked to a better doneness than you've ever had) but it is almost certainly being used. Hell, I had a steak at the Capital Grille the other day that I am fairly certain was cooked SV (it makes service for a steakhouse much easier if you have the temps perfect and just have to sear them off to order).

If I'm to understand this correctly, it's fairly common name is 'cheating'.

Actually, he or Young discussed that at length in the pre-game.  He mentioned that the Houston D was as vanilla as it gets, and that won't work in today's NFL.  That there is no gimmick makes it easy to plan for and he would love to line up against it.

I was talking about the Colts running that defense during the last Texans offensive drive (hurry-up offense).  It's as if the Colts just knew that Schaub couldn't or wouldn't change the offensive style.  The Colts were basically daring them to run up the middle because of the soft middle.  Gruden called the Foster run up the middle two seconds before it happened, and it worked.  Then, right back to dropping back and fumbling.

I don't blame Schaub for the happy feet.  As was noted by the esteemable Gruden & Jaworski, if Schaub's first option wasn't open it was pretty much clusterfuck time with the protection he was getting.  If his coach isn't going to run the ball to keep the d ends off balance then he can start pop and locking in the backfield and I won't blame him.

I've noticed with Cushing this year that teams seem to be exploiting his aggressiveness and tendency to stunt on his blitzes-- lots of cutbacks and play action to his spot on the field.

Gruden also stated during the last series for the Texans that the defense was playing a 'Tampa 2' or something to that effect, and that nobody ran that anymore because a  'good' offensive coordinator could adjust on the fly and tear it to bits.

Slovacek's Jalapeno
Chappel Hill
Bellville Meat Market
Prasek's
Kiobasa Jalepeno

I prefer them smoked, but grill or skillet works, too.

Slovacek's is the one I can never remember and is the best of the store-bought variety I think.  I think they only have it in Sam's Club around here.  For run of the mill hot dog isle stuff, Johnsonville Beer Brats.  However, I'm with Budgirl and mostly make and prefer my own.

Depending on which one, Slovacek's and those types are best sliced longwise and burnt.  Johnsonville types are grilled like hotdogs.  Homemade is good no matter how you cook it.

You should never where a hat when peeing indoors.  Of course, I pee outside whenever I can.

Or wear for that matter.  I was reminded the other day when some radio personality mentioned Ozzy and his Alamo experience, about a time when I was probably 14 or 15 at the Majestic.  I was dragged down to the symphony by my mother, with my little brother and then came intermission.  Needless to say, the lines were long 'inside'.  We never went back.  FTR, I didn't wear a hat there either.

288

Doffing the cap is a respect thing; most golf etiquette is designed to avoid people getting accidentally hit with a golf ball or deliberately hit with a mashie niblick.  Off the top of my head, the stuff most commonly ignored is:

  • You mark your card at the next tee, not at the last green
  • You park your shit behind the green towards the next hole, not in front of it
  • You don’t walk into another group’s firing line, you let them all hit first then go hunt for your precious ball
  • You don’t drive past/near/around a group that’s teeing off, you stop and wait quietly for the whole group to hit
  • You repair any divots/pitch marks you see, not just your own
  • 90 degrees means 90 degrees
  • Either your score or that phone call is important.  Pick one, you can’t have both.

And lastly, two golden rules that apply in life as well as golf:

  • Your place is behind those in front, not in front of those behind; and
  • When it’s your turn, be ready

What about farting in the backswing?

So "hat eh al" refers to admins, but a specific class of admins (i.e. those admins not named Noe, HH).  Here you are supplying the definition along with its proper usage in a sentance, right?

No wonder Andy's pissed.  And apparently chuck has left the door open for Noe and HH, but does that make chuck a 3 or HH a 7?  I'm confused again.  hat eh al!?!

Is it the bush league admins only?

The problem is that there should not be space in front for another car to take.  If you can speed up into the gap, you should've been there in the first place.  I never have to pull this move, because behind me is the only space you'll get.  You'll be amazed at how much aggravation you can save simply by being positive about where you are and where you're going.  Dithering will get you in a world of shit every time.

My point is that if I wanted in front of you at any point in time, including when you think there is no room, I won't telegraph my move by asking please.  The answer nine times out of ten is 'Fuck you and your blinker, I'm in a hurry', when it's obvious they're just being an asshole.

295
Beer and Queso / Re: Hobby Airport

On a slightly related note...

I'm waiting for the elevator.  It's morning, and I have yet to have any caffeine.  Two ladies wander up just as the lift arrives.  It's the one nearest them, so it's easy for me to be chivalrous, and let them board first.  They amble in the general direction of the door, but it closes before they get on.  They then stand in the way of the call button - without pressing it.  More than a little miffed now, I proffer a loud "Excuse me!" and press the button.  They laugh sheepishly and crack some lame joke about slowing me down.  No shit, lady!

By the time the next elevator arrives, 4 million people have showed up to get on.  I am on the highest floor for that bank of elevators.  We stop at every other floor along the way.

ETA:  When I drive in rush hour, I have what I call my "zero tolerance" policy.  Mostly this means that I don't go out of my way to get out of your way.  If you want in my lane, there's space right behind me, because there's none in front.  If you're in the wrong lane, the only way you'll learn is by getting stuck out there.  Next time, maybe you'll plan ahead and not be a cocksucker.

I believe that it's circa 100% of the time that the driver to whom you show courtesy, will then fuck you over so fast it makes your head spin.

Contrary to what the law says, what the books say, what your instructor said, and what you believe is the right thing to do, and when you make up your mind about which lane you need to switch into, don't use your blinker.  This is the warning to the people around you that you really need over, but their interpretation is 'Fuck You'--'Fuck You'--'Fuck You'--'Fuck You'--'Fuck You' in unison with the blinking light as they speed up to prevent such a move.  I watch this develop from afar and it happens almost every time.

It's actually a right-handed problem too.  Because us righties hold the phone in the left hand while masturbating typing.

If you are ambidextrous you could prop the iPhone up and use both hands.  But then again, you still have to type sometimes.

319
The internets are busy with reports of a flaw in the new iPhone.  Apparently, if you're touching the lower left corner and the right side (which happens when you hold it in your left hand to tap the screen with your right), it kills the cell signal.

Wow!

I have one reserved at the Apple Store, and I'm not going to pick it up today.  Need to see how this pans out.  Can't believe this never came up in testing.

ETA:  One theory is that test phones, like the one left in a bar, had a skin around the edge to make it look like a current iPhone, and this may have insulated the antennae.  It's also now a theory as to why Jobs had trouble during the WWDC demo.  Apple = France?

All the engineers were left-handed, because everyone knows that left-handed people are the only ones smart enough to create an iPhone.

320
Not that I'm aware of.  But, in case you didn't know, tapping the header bar whizzes you back to the top where you can access refresh (this works on most apps with scrolling screens).

Much better, but a refresh button on the bottom bar would be ideal.

321
Is there a way to refresh the Safari browser without having to scroll to the top of the page and hit the tiny refresh button every time?

I believe I heard that video calling will only happen on a WiFi type network and not 3G (cellular).  I've never had an issue with battery usage, and I connect to WiFi all over the place (mainly customers).  My question is when I can get the new OS on my phone (3GS) for the use of multitasking?  If AT&T is going to place limits on data usage, all these new Apps and features are useless to me.  AT&T is wringing their hands together just waiting for the next billing cycle.

Oh I do , but the Mets announcers would start homerun calls on balls caught by infielders (and if the other team hit a homerun you'd have to wait and read about it in the paper the next day).

Yesterdays call made it to the warning track but the guy was screaming like a little girl the entire time.

He definitely had me fooled, as I thought Prince killed someone a street over.

Actually, it's funny that you brought that up to use against me.  I'm very seriously looking at getting season tickets to Columbia basketball next year.  I can sit on the floor for nothing, it's closer to my apt, and it'll be a shitload more fun than the NBA.  Oh, plus Columbia is better than the Knicks.

Can't you just hold on to those as an investment, because you know that when LJ gets through fucking over the rest of the league and trying to asphyxiate everyone on ESPN who is waiting for his decision, the Knicks season tickets will be worth absolutely nothing their weight in pizza?

I wonder where "fuck" fits in the scale.  I feel like we are a big contributor there.

If this was true, "'Fuck' the Cubs" alone would win them first place.  However, the obvious flaw in their formula is calling it hate when it should be passion, at least in the Astros' case.

Are they guys whose brains we should trust?  Are they a sort of trust fund of brainy-age the Astros can tap into whenever they need it?  Any estate attorneys present want to comment on this?

What would they call it if it was a picture of Paulino on the mound with a bunch of us sitting behind him and watching?  The Astros Beer Trust?  The liver trust?  How did those guys get in here, call the police right away?

iPhone is far superior to anything HTC has IMO.  I had the Touch, which was considered untouchable (and un-insurable)at the time of the iPhone launch.  Once the iPhone overcame the Microsoft compatibilities, you can't find anything better.  The GPS is very integrated into everything and is much more accurate than what I expected.  BB and RIM can kiss my ass.  If you think Apple is proprietary, just go corporate BB.

Except that Texas was back within 3 points in the 4th quarter, and had a chance to march down the field and take the lead. Texas defense was playing possessed until the inexplicable sack fumble after Ulatowski elected to, you know, just not even block the 4th rusher coming off the edge.

.....five seconds after Muspussy just got through mentioning the the Longhorns had not given up a sack all night.  And, Anders is from Smithson Valley, not San Antonio.  If he is drafted, I believe he will be the first from that school.

Shingles is the second manifestation of symptoms from the chickenpox virus (which you can't actually get out of your system... it just goes dormant, only to rear its ugly head again many years later, now as shingles.)  So, someone with shingles previously contracted the chickenpox virus, probably as a child, and something has triggered it to flare up again with these new symptoms.  Importanly for those of us that never got chickenpox as children, someone with shingles can spread the chickenpox virus.  And it is my understanding that the initial reaction from the chickenpox virus can be deadly to an adult.

As for my credentials, I never cared much for ER, but will admit to watching several seasons of Scrubs and all but the most recent season of House.

Not to mention living staying at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Tell me, what is the purpose of laws that mandate spyware installed on all TVs and computers (as has been proposed by Hollings) to check for copyright violations?  Does that help the people of South Carolina?  Why would one be so intent on passing legislation on something so clearly outside their bailiwick?

Or would you rather high and mighty semantical games?  That makes it easier to ignore the fact that Disney has an inordinate amount of influence on our legislative branch, and if they had their way, our computers would be phoning home to them?  Not to mention their history of abusive lawsuits.  You don't find it the epitome of thanklessness that they are subverting the public domain, when they have taken nearly all their characters from the public domain?  But what do I know, I'm just a kook.

Thanks, I'm well aware of the Disney's legal history, and copyright law.  It's still a scumbag thing to do, and hiding behind "we have to protect copyright" is just another "don't hate the player, hate the game," cliche that excuses pathological behavior.  Ask yourself why no other copyright holders dare to stoop to that level.  No other company has the combination of marketing, imperiousness, and sway with lawmakers.

And modders don't make money.  We're talking about the guy who changes a few sprites so you can play Starcraft with Aliens™ instead of Zergs...this is a purely theoretical argument too, as Disney (to their credit) has not sued the modding community.

In other words.....WFW™

We're using some Iphones through Exchange/OWA.

It woudln't work initially, but it was mostly to do with old software compatibility.

Just find someone with an ipod touch and set it up through that to test it.

Once we got the software setup correct, it works like a champ.

I'm thinking this was the case when we initially checked into this (1st generation IPhones).  OWA is not what we're after, nor syncing with a standalone Outlook on a desktop.  We currently have it where the emails come in as they hit the Exchange server itself (most of the time even before they are delivered to the individual mailbox).  This requires the 3G connection to be active all the time however which is fine I guess, but eats battery.  It also syncs contacts, calendar, etc.  Just checking to be sure as the phone people don't seem to know and won't commit to an answer.  Thanks.

We are currently using AT&T service with the Tilt SmartPhones at our place of business.  Our biggest concern of switching to IPhones is the functionality of the Microsoft Push used in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange server.  If this doesn't work as well as advertised (or as good as the Tilt, which uses Windows Mobile 6.1), then there is no point of upgrading.  Is there anyone who is currently using this scenario, and if so, how is it working out?

The Bus Ride Discussion Forum / Re: 2009 Draft
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:14:09 pm »
Here are the details of the Professional Baseball Scholarship Plan

It was a smart thing by MLB to do this.  The conditions are relatively light.  Must put it in your initial contract.  Only for Junior college or 4 year (no trade schools or grad schools).  Must start college within 2 years of last day of active service.  There is a $ limit negotiated at the time of the contract.  If not all $ used, then it is lost.  Limited to 8 semesters or 12 quarters.

So you can impress Momma by giving negotiating a 250K scholarship plan.  If Bobby Ballplayer makes it to the pros, you not likely to ever have to pay it out.  If he doesn't, he isn't likely to go to a school that will cost 30K per semester.  So even if he goes to local state school for 4 years, you are likely only out 80K - 100K.  But you sold Momma on the big $ you knew you were unlikely to spend anyway.

This is a win/win for player and MLB but a good bargaining chip for MLB.

Thanks, I now have a better understanding.

So his choices are to sign and leave school for the Red Sox farm system, sign and complete school without playing college ball (report to farm system periodically if this option is available from the Red Sox,) or not sign and continue school and college baseball career, hopefully improving his draft status for next year.  If I recall, he was slated for a much higher round than this until he showed some elbow problems recently.  What is typically the amount offered for a ninth round pick?  I'm sure he will finish school anyway, but it is an intriguing decision regardless.

Off topic, but useful nonetheless: buttermilk is good for tilapia. I'm not a fan of that fish because it has that dirty taste from the geosmin the tilapia ingest on the bottom of farm ponds. The flavor is disgusting. Soaking the tilapia fillets in buttermilk for 45 minutes or so before cooking will break down and remove the geosmin from the fish.

Not sure of tilapia, but on catfish at least, I use mustard instead of egg or buttermilk.  This probably doesn't kill any geosmin, and will hardly cover any mud taste from store bought catfish, but good and easy.  I haven't tried it on chicken as of yet.

Imagine accidentally taking a sip from the can your friend has been spitting his dip-spit in to all day, then add a slightly metallic aftertaste. You're almost to "Steel Reserve High Gravity" when you feel like you just bit in to some tinfoil.

and thats when it's cold.

I'm looking for 2~4 team owners in a private H2H league (ESPN, free).  Send me a PM if interested.  Draft will be auto-draft on Saturday early AM.

If I'm translating correctly, there's a little problem.  There was never 7 dollar beer sold at the Astrodome.

Oh those radio guys.....

Sorry to disturb everyone...my friend gave me some cartoon strip bandages last week and I was taking a picture to show her while reading the site, and I  thought it would make a good avatar.  Guess not, huh?

Eat the Rich is the theme for the nation, so that only leaves Headhunter.

And he was only using them because of all of the pressure he felt to live up to his contract.
and for the evolusionist; his cousin, the un-named human provided it for him.

Tragic situation.  However, WTF was the owner doing giving the chimp tea mixed with Xanax?  Did the vet prescribe the drug to the chimp or did the owner assume that the chimp would have the same reaction to Xanax that most humans would?  What course of treatment was next?  A syringe of heroin?   Main point is that Xanax is a mood altering drug.  Owner playing amateur chimp psychiatrist is probably not a good idea.

What wasn't reported, only to be revealed at a later press conference, is the rampant steroid and HGH usage.

The application of makeup is referred to as farding.

So punish everyone for the foolish acts of a few huh?  Responsibility and consequence are huge words to this conversation and their definitions should be keyed into the hoods of the cars of our youths' minds as a reminder.  As far as punishment goes, being doled out by your parents in any legal manner, and this includes spanking, is ten times better than anything to do with the law.  The good old days of 'our' youth are gone, and 'our youts' will be punished by their 'criminal' record for a good portion of their lives.  So, in my view, you do what it takes to get your point across your way, before you have no say, or money left to help.

Boneyard picks up where it left off and replaces the 80's void left by Hair Nation.  Or vice-versa.  For the Country void, try 10 The Roadhouse.  Willie's Place is OK until it goes to the Grand Ole Opry live which sucks big time now since all the talent that used to be is now dead.
